Huzzah!
The Diplomat, Keri Russell's starring vehicle at Netflix, has scored a very quick renewal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
We urged you to watch the series before it dropped, assuring you that it has all of the intrigue, thrills, and wit you expect from Netflix's best series, so we're super happy about this news.
The early renewal shouldn't be a surprise, given the quality of the show.
It becomes even less surprising when you learn that Netflix shared that The Diplomat was the top show the week it dropped, netting 57.48 million viewing hours.
Fans should be jumping for joy after an immense cliffhanger that might have left diehards rioting in the streets without resolution.
In The Diplomat, Russell stars as Kate Wyler, the latest US Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
A career diplomat, Kate had expected her next role to be on the front lines of the latest bruhaha in Afghanistan.

Netflix has released the first trailer for The Diplomat, a new political drama premiering on April 20, 2023. The trailer introduces Keri Russell as a recently appointed ambassador who’s called in to stop a conflict in the Persian Gulf. However, the battle at home appears just as likely to explode into a full-blown war.
Series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn says the series is about transcendence and long-term relationships.
“It’s hard to keep a relationship going, be it a marriage or a military alliance. We change, the world changes, and yet we want these relationships to go on forever,” stated Cahn in a feature on Netflix’s Tudum. It’s a show about a bunch of good people doing their best to keep their global and personal partnerships intact without killing each other. Nearly five years after “The Americans” concluded, Keri Russell is back with a brand new TV series. Russell stars as Kate Wyler in the Netflix thriller “The Diplomat,” the first trailer for which shows Wyler being tasked with stopping a war before it starts in her new position as U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Watch it at the top of the page now.
If the pressure to diffuse international crises amid global threats and forge strategic alliances in London wasn’t enough, there’s another twist: Kate must stand her ground in the new spotlight as she attempts to escape the looming shadow of her husband and well-respected diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
As Kate learns to assert her dominance amid her husband’s storied career, telling her new advisors her tenure will be an “adjustment,” Kate and Hal differ on their approach to the emerging politician’s new position.

Netflix has set an April 20, 2023 premiere date for the political drama The Diplomat. The eight-episode series stars three-time Emmy nominee Keri Russell (The Americans), and the first official photo features Russell as Ambassador Kate Wyler.
Netflix offers this description of The Diplomat:
“Kate Wyler is the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic home… less so. Pieces of Her is poised to be one of the most talked about shows of 2022.
Netflix on Tuesday dropped a thrilling trailer for the Toni Collette-fronted drama series, and we're excited.
The trailer asks a very valid question:
What would you do if your mother was not who you thought she was?
“There are just some things you don’t understand,” Laura (Collette) warns in the clip.
The big hook is that Collette's character reacts to a sudden act of violence, setting off a chain of events that nobody could have imagined.
It has a very Ozark feel about it, and given that the fellow Netflix hit is ending, this could be a worthy successor.
The trailer also boasts that the show came from the people who made Big Little Lies and The Undoing, so we're inclined to believe this will be yet another hit for the streaming service.

The Federal Government has splashed $21.58 million to lure two Netflix titles to Australia: feature film Escape From Spiderhead, due to shoot on the Gold Coast, and eight-part series Pieces of Her, bound for Sydney.
Both projects have been coaxed here via the government’s $400 million Location Incentive Program, with the expectation that combined they will inject around $160 million into the economy and create 770 local jobs.
Notably, both projects star homegrown talent. Chris Hemsworth leads the cast of Escape from Spiderhead, while Toni Collette, Bella Heathcoate and David Wenham are attached to star in Pieces of Her, executive produced by Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories.
“Australia’s world-class production sector is renowned for being hardworking and these productions will support hundreds of jobs – from carpenters, lighting technicians and set designers to actors, crews and special effects teams,” said Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts Paul Fletcher in announcing the projects.

Syfy is ending “The Magicians” after its current fifth season.
The series based on Lev Grossman’s novels will air its series finale on April 1. The series centers on a group of friends as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures who threaten to destroy the magical world they’ve come to know.
“‘The Magicians’ has been a part of our Syfy family for five fantastic seasons. As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever,” the network said in a statement.

The end is just around the corner for The Magicians. The current fifth season of the fantasy drama series will be its last; the April 1 Season 3 finale will serve as series finale.
Created by John McNamara and Sera Gamble based on Lev Grossman’s novels, The Magicians for years was Syfy’s top series. Creators/executive producers McNamara and Gamble have served as showrunners of The Magicians since Day one; at the start of Season 5, fellow exec producer Henry Alonso Myers was named co-showrunner alongside them.
While they did not go into Season 5 knowing that it would definitely will be the show’s final chapter, I hear they wrote the Season 5 finale so it could also work as a series finale.

Syfy has announced that the current fifth season of the fantasy show will be its last. Season 5, which is scheduled to last 13 episodes, premiered in Jan. 2020, meaning that the series finale will air on April 1.
Based on Lev Grossman’s bestselling novels of the same name, “The Magicians” centers on a group of 20-somethings from Brakebills University as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures. The series first premiered on Syfy in January 2016, and has been one of its most consistent shows over the last four years.
News of the show’s end means that the NBCUniversal-owned cabler’s scripted roster has been whittled down to only a couple of returning series. However, Syfy is gearing up to premiere several new offerings in the near future, and recently ordered a pair of shows including one inspired...
