An albino, a deaf mute, a jock, a fat kid, a sexually-abused girl and a token “Angry Asian” chick all get on a bus… Sounds like the start of some strange non-pc joke right? Well it’s not. It’s actually how writer/director Kimberly Seilhamer chooses to open her directorial debut Jack the Reaper - a great pun which is lost in the films re-titling to merely The Reaper.
The film follows a group of teenage stereotypes all forced into Saturday detention in the library at the railroad museum (really?) after failing to turn in a paper on the Industrial Revolution. What one has to do with the other I’m not sure – well the railroad was important in getting the products of industry across the Us right.

Apparently I’m a little late to the proverbial party on this one, but, as Cheech Marin said in “Ghostbusters 2″, it’s always better to be late than to never arrive. I’m paraphrasing, of course. Below you’ll find a seriously impressive trailer for director Kimberly Seilhamer’s “Jack the Reaper”, a motion picture about a bloody-thirsty freak named Railroad Jack who savagely menaces a group of teenagers inside a roadside carnival. Trust me when I say it looks a lot better than it sounds. This extended synopsis demands your attention: A cold-blooded creature known as Railroad Jack (Douglas Tait) haunts a stretch of desert highway called Death’s Door, waiting for his next victims. He is a Reaper, one who ushers souls to the afterlife, willing or not. Railroad Jack stalks the desert, drawing prey to the abandoned roadside carnival that is his weapon. When a school...

Dread Central hit the world premiere of the Image Entertainment and Ariescope Pictures anthology film Chillerama at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California, last Thursday, September 15th (see Part 1 here), and today we bring you Part 2 of our coverage. In this installment we provide interviews with one of the film's directors, Adam Rifkin, and cast members Lin Shaye, Gabby West, Kristina Klebe and more!
“We wanted from the start to make a movie that was a love letter to the movies that we loved growing up,” director Rifkin told us of their approach to the horror-comedy that is Chillerama, “(the type) that you don’t see getting made that often anymore and that you don’t see getting played that often anymore. When I was growing up in Chicago, they played these types of movies constantly on this show called ‘The Son of Svengoolie’, and that’s where I...

After attending Texas State University for a year, where she studied theater and played a couple of lead roles, Hope Jaymes embarked upon the brave journey to Los Angeles, leaving her theatrical roots for a career in film. Jaymes recalls, "I was completely new to L.A. I really had no idea what I was doing, but all I knew was there was an audition for a girl named Sommer." She had seen the breakdown on BackStage.com and was off and running. Though the fear of not knowing what to do or where to start in a new town may have overwhelmed Jaymes, the thrill of booking a job quelled her fright rather quickly. Jaymes' first "real" audition landed her a supporting role in the independent horror feature "Jack the Reaper" within two months of arriving in L.A. The film's executive producer–director-writer, Kimberly Seilhamer, notes that Jaymes was "fabulous" on set.

So, you normally don't hear about what women are directing in horror, sci-fi, and fantasy? That's because other assholes don't write about it. Only this asshole does. And there's a lot of new films projects you'll want to check out, if you're a real fannerd.
Aside from German-language release Lollipop Monster by Franziska Riemann and Larysa Kondracki's thriller in mainstream theaters, The Whistleblower, there's a bunch of shit to check out this summer.
Also in theaters is director/writer Miranda July's fantasy film The Future (see our review) opening on August 5th, 2011. This is July's second feature as director, the first being Me and You and Everyone We Know, which everyone who loves arty movies said was amazing. There's a talking cat and romance and a goregous beauty to The Future. Watch the stunning trailer:

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by American World Pictures.
Director/writer: Kimberly Seilhamer.
This film is a little different from the usual ride down the tracks. Instead of and expressionless killer, Railroad Jack shows that he is a happy killer. Railroad Jack is always killing with a smile and soon, this viewer was smiling along with Jack, in Jack the Reaper. Unbelievably, this film has not secured a release date, but this film is deserving of distribution and of horror fan's attention. The film uses a great set involving a carnival in a desert and the drama among the characters heightens the tension. This is a title that needs to be seen to be believed and hopefully, Jack the Reaper will find a welcoming home soon, so he can terrorize more macabre watching fans.
Jack the Reaper begins with a flashback and soon the horror tone...

American World Pictures, an La-based independent motion picture distribution and production company, is gearing up for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival with updated info on three of its genre acquisitions in this year's line-up: Jack the Reaper, Boggy Creek, and Spirit Hunters promise to be big sellers for the company at the fest.
We just gave you the lowdown on Spirit Hunters last week (click here for the one-sheet debut), and now there's a trailer to share. It's directed by J.P. Pierce and stars Michael Chandler, Danielle James, Doug Jones, Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, and Zak Ward.
Synopsis
A cinematographer and soundman, Morgan and Cricket, head to a remote Idaho ranch to film the pilot episode of “Spirit Seekers,” a new reality TV show about ghost hunters. When the host dies during filming, the production shuts down. Unbeknownst to the cast and crew, the show’s director planned the host’s death to boost ratings.

Jack the Reaper is another film from American World Pictures, which was previously titled One-by-One: Death's Door (Dread). The film stars the prolific actor Tony Todd (Hatchet II), Sally Kirkland (Bruce Almighty), and Douglas Tait (Freddy vs. Jason), in a real coming of age film. Instead of getting their first razor, several teenagers learn about the industrial revolution the hard way, by sharp axe and disfigured monster. The first trailer for Jack the Reaper was released last week and the clip is reposted here, for those who missed it.
The synopsis for Jack the Reaper:
"A group of teens set out on a field trip to a railroad museum only to encounter "Railroad Jack," who makes sure their bus crashes and forces them to explore his carnival, as he picks them off one at a time" (Dread).
Director/writer: Kimberly Seilhamer.
Cast: Chris Bruno, Jay Gillespie, and Joel Bryant.

Three surefire signs that your life expectancy in a teen horror flick is fleeting: you break down in the desert, you find an abandoned carnival, and Tony Todd is talking to you in his creepy voice. All three are on display in the trailer for the new teen slasher Jack the Reaper. Nice knowin' ya!
American World Pictures acquired the film originally titled One-by-One: Death's Door at last year's American Film Market and has since changed the title to the better, yet more gimmicky Jack the Reaper. In the film from writer-director Kimberly Seilhamer, a group of teens set out on a field trip to a railroad museum only to encounter "Railroad Jack", who makes sure their bus crashes and forces them to explore his carnival as he picks them off one at a time.
Why a "railroad reaper" lurks in a carnival strikes me as one of those questions...

Sally Kirkland is in it! It's getting distributed!
There are "unsuspecting teens", a "desert carnival" called Death's Door, and a 'Railroad reaper" (whatever the fuck that is!) and it was shot in California's parched and heated Mojave desert. There are also stuffed animals, a haunted mansion ride, and lots of wind (according to IMDb. I'm doing my best, here). Basically, I love horror directed by women, and it is very rare to see a slasher film directed by a woman, especially these days.
Low budget staple Tony Todd (Candyman) plays the museum curator, Douglas Tait (Freddy vs. Jason) is the slasher Railroad Jack, and Sally Kirkland plays a grandma. What a great role for a woman! Not.
One By One is the directing debut of Kimberly Seilhamer who also wrote the thrillers Inside Irvin and The Keyman.

Los Angeles native Jemal Draco says he has always felt like an underdog. "I'm ethnic, I'm skinny, I'm short, and I'm very alternative-looking," he explains. That's why he was thrilled when writer/director Kimberly Seilhamer called him in to read for the part of Tyler in her feature-length horror film "One by One: Death's Door" after receiving his submission through BackStage.com."All horror films have the token jock that does what he wants to do and says stupid things, but Tyler is more complicated than that," Draco explains. "Kimberly wanted someone a little more alternative and different. I was just excited to have the chance to actually read for a part like this. I came in dressed in a studded vest, spiked my hair, had boots, ripped jeans, and put my hair in a Mohawk.""We searched high and low for Tylers, let me tell you," says Seilhamer. "I interviewed probably 75 to 100 Tylers.

In his short film career, Jay Gillespie has already had the distinct privilege of working with two horror icons—Tony Todd ("Candyman") and Robert Englund ("Nightmare on Elm Street"). And it was through Back Stage that Gillespie booked the lead in "One by One: Death's Door" featuring Todd and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland. "We exchanged emails and everything like that. He's ginormous in real life," Gillespie says of Todd. "He has this very deep, throaty voice and he would say, 'Just keep doing it,' [of acting]. He wanted me to be in 'Hatchet 2.' He was like, 'You'd be perfect for it, buddy.' And I was like, 'I think it's cast already.' And he said, 'So what? Talk to your manager.'" In "One by One," Gillespie plays Shawn Hickey, a metal guitarist on a field trip gone horribly wrong when the bus crashes in the desert. It definitely...
