Lyn Ulbricht’s son, Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, currently sits behind bars waiting to learn his sentence for breaking multiple laws while running the online drug bazaar – and Lyn believes that the U.S. government broke the law in putting him there. Lyn and director Alex Winter, who produced a documentary about Ross, Deep Web, spoke to uInterview exclusively at SXSW in 2015.
Q: Lyn, how did you find out about your son’s involvement in with Silk Road?
A: We got a call from a Reuters reporter at our house. That’s how I found out. To tell you the truth, sometimes I still can’t believe it. I had mentioned this to Alex, in the movie, it’s kind of like when someone dies. It’s such a shock to have Ross in prison that sometimes I wake up in the morning, and then I remember. It’s such a shock.

Exclusive: Kaya Scodelario (The Gentlemen) and Billie Lourd (Booksmart) have signed on to star alongside Josh Gad, Anthony Carrigan and Alex Winter in Winter’s darkly comic modern noir Adulthood.
Details as to their roles are under wraps.
Currently shooting in Ottawa, Canada, Adulthood is about a sister and brother, Megan and Noah, who are barely hanging on in present-day America, like all of us. Novelist Michael M.B. Galvin wrote the script. In addition to Winter, producers on the project include Scott Kroopf (Limitless), Lisa Wolofsky (Tow) and Russell Hollander (Flight Risk), as well as Olive Hill Media’s Michael Cho and Tim Lee, and Fresh Fish Films’ Danny Roberts, H.S. Naji and Jackie Langelier. Connie Tavel is exec producing alongside Mimi Rode for Olive Hill Media and Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science. Olive Hill Media and Fresh Fish Films are financing, with Rocket Science arranging finance for international sales.
Currently starring as Susie Glass in Guy Ritchie’s acclaimed Netflix crime drama The Gentlemen, based on his same-name film, Scodelario is otherwise best known for roles in films like Crawl, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, The Maze Runner franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Moon and more. Up next, she’ll be seen in Netflix’s limited series Senna on the Formula 1 champion of the same name.
Most recently seen in numerous seasons of American Horror Story, Lourd’s other notable credits include the rom-com Ticket to Paradise, Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart, three Star Wars films and Fox’s Scream Queens. Among her other upcoming projects is Gia Coppola’s film The Last Showgirl with Pamela Anderson.

Vin Diesel is set to enter production on Riddick: Furya, the anticipated fourth installment of the Riddick franchise, on August 26.
Shooting in Germany, Spain and the U.K., this follow-up to the sci-fi films Pitch Black (2000), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013) reunites Diesel with writer-director David Twohy. Diesel reprises his role as the anti-hero Richard B. Riddick, a dangerous escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the galaxy.
In Riddick: Furya, Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.
Diesel will produce for One Race Films, alongside Samantha Vincent. Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science and Lars Sylvest for Thank You Studios will also produce alongside Joe Neurauter.

Nearly a month after Jonathan Glazer’s Oscars speech reverberated across Hollywood and caused a wave of controversy, 455 Jewish creatives (and counting) have signed a letter in a show of support.
“We were alarmed to see some of our colleagues in the industry mischaracterize and denounce his remarks. Their attacks on Glazer are a dangerous distraction from Israel’s escalating military campaign which has already killed over 32,000 Palestinians in Gaza and brought hundreds of thousands to the brink of starvation,” reads the letter, published amid the continued conflict in the Middle East. “We grieve for all those who have been killed in Palestine and Israel over too many decades, including the 1200 Israelis killed in the October 7 Hamas attacks and the 253 hostages taken.”

Update: More than 300 Jewish creatives — including eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, “SNL” star Sarah Sherman, actor and documentarian Alex Winter and “Seinfeld” writer Larry Charles — have added their names to the list of signatories of an open letter in support of Jonathan Glazer’s Oscars speech.
The number of signees now sits at 492, having more than tripled since Variety first published the April 5 letter, which criticized the attacks on Glazer for being a “dangerous distraction” from the mounting death toll in Gaza while also contributing to the “suppression of free speech and dissent.”
New additions also include Oscar-winning “Anatomy of a Fall” co-writer Arthur Harari, veteran U.K. producer and Oscar winner Jeremy Thomas, “Girls” co-showrunner and co-writer Jenni Konner and “The Hunger Games” writer and director and four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross. Ever since the blockchain was introduced to the public, there has been significant interest in movies that discuss the subject. Over the last few years, the entertainment sector has produced several films and documentaries about blockchain-based assets like cryptocurrencies and their effect on the global economy.
It’s understandable why people want to learn more about cryptocurrencies, considering that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and similar assets have revolutionized how people pay and invest. This category of assets has witnessed an explosion in popularity, and both beginner and seasoned investors have shown interest in adding them to their portfolios.
Filmmakers couldn’t miss the opportunity to deliver content that meets people’s interests, so they took the plunge and created shows that discuss the potential and implications of blockchain-based assets. While some of them show the reasons behind the rapid growth of Bitcoin price Usd, others discuss the stories behind the creation of famous cryptocurrencies.

Months ago, we here at JoBlo started writing about an issue near and dear to the hearts of film fanatics everywhere – the resurgence of physical media. After being shocked by how difficult it was to find the Ron Howard movie Cocoon, I decided to make a list of 10 movies that were difficult to find, but the comments on the article clued me into the fact that the issue of out-of-print classics is far more widespread than I assumed. Last week, I did an article about how movies like The Cannonball Run and Dogma are missing, and in that vein, here are five more cult classics that are surprisingly tough to find.
Ricochet:
This 1992 action film was an early attempt to turn Denzel Washington into an action star. Despite stylish direction by Russell Mulcahy and an unforgettable turn by John Lithgow as the movie’s villain, it was only a modest success.

The mask and collectible makers at Trick or Treat Studios have given sneak previews of many of the new masks that will be part of their 2024 product line-up, including revivals of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees masks from the ’80s and ’90s and masks of Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric’s characters David and Michael from Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys (watch it Here)! An image of these masks can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Scripted by Janice Fischer, Jeffrey Boam, and James Jeremias, The Lost Boys has the following synopsis: Teenage brothers Michael and Sam move with their mother to a small town in northern California. While the younger Sam meets a pair of kindred spirits in geeky comic-book nerds Edward and Alan, the angst-ridden Michael soon falls for Star — who turns out to be in thrall to David, leader of a local gang of vampires.

Photograph by Courtesy Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/United Artist If you were surprised when you found out that a third Bill & Ted movie was being released 29 years after the second, you may be just as surprised to learn that a fourth movie may be in the works. Alex Winter dropped the news on Sarah O’Connell’s YouTube show that a script is currently being written that would reunite Winter with Keanu Reeves once again for another Bill & Ted adventure, since Bill & Ted Face the Music was so well received by the fans. Of course, a big part of the appeal of the “Bill & Ted” films comes from the chemistry between the two stars; at a 2020 Comic Con panel, Reeves and Winter shared the story of the audition process for the original film. Back in the days of Blockbuster and local video rental stores, there was always that one rack — the one packed with horror flicks with gory-looking covers that scared Eighties and Nineties kids witless. Now, that same vibe has come to Shudder in the form of Josh Forbes’ Destroy All Neighbors, starring none other than Eighties hero Alex Winter.
Winter, star of 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1987’s The Lost Boys, has mostly been in his writer-director era for the past few decades — save for a recent appearance as Bill S.

2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music felt like a fitting enough way to bid a bodacious farewell to the titular time traveling rockers. But if Alex Winter aka Bill S. Preston, Esquire, is to be believed, the pair may be partying on yet again for a Bill & Ted 4.
Appearing on The Sarah O’Connell Show, Winter said Bill & Ted 4 is already in the preliminary stages of being planned, citing trilogy writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. “The gang…we’re tinkering with a fourth movie idea that all of us like… and the guys are going to write, so we’ll see. I mean it takes us time to get these things going, and we never want to do them unless they’re great.” He went on to call the writers “super talented” but noted that “they feel the same way: it has to be right…We love [the movies] because...

The core creative team are ‘tinkering’ with an idea for Bill & Ted 4, reveals Alex Winter.
It’s far from assured, but it seems that the creative minds behind 2020’s Bill & Ted Face The Music are playing with the idea of revisiting the series’ beloved characters once more.
Alex Winter forms one half of the titular duo, and while out on the press tour for Destroy All Neighbors, he spoke on The Sarah O’Connell Show about the prospect of re-teaming with co-star Keanu Reeves for another turn as Bill S Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan, the beloved pair of slackers who are eternally on the verge of actually doing something meaningful with their lives.
Apparently, Winter and Reeves are working with the series’ writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson to figure out if there’s another story to tell… and it looks like that might possibly be the case.

Revolving around two things many of us know all too well, neighbours from hell and writer’s block, Destroy All Neighbors is an over-the-top exercise in splatstick from director Josh Forbes and writers Mike Benner, Jared Logan and Charles A. Pieper.
William Brown makes his living as a sound engineer at Industrial Sound & Magic, helping to bring other people’s music to life. Currently, it’s the obnoxious Caleb Bang Jansen, “Emerson, Lake and Palmer? It sounds like Emerson getting buttfucked by Lake and Palmer.”
But when it comes to his own Prog Rock album, he’s stuck in a rut. While his girlfriend Emily believes in him, everyone else around him seems to exist only to stifle his efforts.

But when it comes to his own Prog Rock album, he’s stuck in a rut. While his girlfriend Emily believes in him, everyone else around him seems to exist only to stifle his efforts.

Plot: Struggling prog-rock musician William Brown finds himself in a living nightmare when he accidentally kills Vlad, the neighbor from hell.
Review: We’ve all had neighbors that make too much noise and drive us crazy right? It almost feels like a rite of passage. The bass of their music pierces every corner of your mind as you’re just trying to live your life. Every footstep sounds like the stomping of an elephant. But what if, when trying to defuse the situation, you somehow manage to murder them? Destroy All Neighbors takes this concept, adds in some prog rock and wonderful creature FX, and gives us a fun time at the movies.
William Brown (as played by Jonah Ray) is a bit of a loser—at least, that’s what the film will try to convince you of. But despite living in a craphole apartment, the man has a...

New splatter-comedy Destroy All Neighbors has more on its mind than bad neighbors run amok. Director Josh Forbes, working from the screenplay by Charles Pieper and Jared Logan, crafts a Frank Henenlotter-inspired comedy full of guts and rock ambition. Nestled at the center is a sugary-sweet story of an artist learning to get out of his own way. While that means it has all the right ingredients in place for an infectiously scrappy horror comedy, it might be too narratively streamlined for its own good.
William Brown (Jonah Ray Rodrigues) dreams of prog-rock greatness. He works as a sound engineer at a low-rent music studio by trade and spends the rest of his waking hours trying to crack his magnum opus that’ll earn him a place in rock Valhalla. Well, almost. William frequently finds himself distracted by everything around him, especially his neighbors. Even more so with the...

Actors Alex Winter and Jonah Ray Rodrigues face off as new neighbors in Shudder’s splatter-comedy Destroy All Neighbors, and it’s safe to say that the confrontation escalates to a lethal, gory degree.
In Destroy All Neighbors, Rodrigues stars as William Brown, a neurotic, self-absorbed musician easily distracted from his prog-rock ambitions by an apartment building full of eclectic neighbors. That includes the noisy and grotesque Vlad (Winter), who just moved in next door. When an accidental murder ensues, William’s unwitting reign of terror causes victims to pile up and become undead corpses that further derail his journey toward prog-rock Valhalla.

A grumpy sound engineer hoping to revive his career finds he has an anti-talent as a ‘serial manslaughterer’ – with Alex “Bill & Ted” Winter as a severed head
From Barton Fink to Adaptation, the creatively blocked Los Angeles lifer is part of the city’s mythology – and this amusing splatterhouse horror-comedy is a nice addition to that canon. Orbiting around dilly-dallying and passive-aggressive prog-rocker William Brown (Jonah Ray Rodrigues), this film makes homicidal psychosis look like a blast. And it also gives Alex Winter his best acting role since Bill & Ted yucking it up as a severed head.
William is hamster-wheeling his way to nowhere in his sound-engineer day job, while eternally finishing off a prog meisterwerk in his home studio. His lovely girlfriend Emily (Kiran Deol) puts up with his quirks, which include a pathological inability to confront their new neighbour Vlad (Winter) about the non-stop partying next door...

2024 is opening hard and fast with one of the first genre releases of the year. From director Josh Forbes, Destroy All Neighbors is a story about an artist chasing perfection, avoiding distraction, and accepting that sometimes you need a little help to cross the finish line. It’s also kind of a bonkers movie with a high energy level and a ton of practical effects.
William (Jonah Ray Rodroguez) is stuck. He works as a recording engineer, finishing albums for other, more successful musicians, while slaving away at his passion project - a prog rock album that he has been “so close” to finishing for a number of years. He just can’t seem to get past the final hurdle and bring the whole thing home. He is constantly working on it, but as all artists can relate, sometimes the ending just gets further away. He lives in a...

The Lost Boys was released in an era before vampire movies were once again in vogue; while it wasn’t a huge box office hit, it did serve to reignite interest in the genre, paving the way for many of the vampire films that followed. The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, was highly acclaimed for its casting, as it assembled an all-star team of 1987’s top young talent, including Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Alex Winter, and Kiefer Sutherland. With the film now recognized as a cult classic, Speaking at a Steel City Con panel, Sutherland said he knew it was an interesting movie, but had no idea that it would have such staying power. Patrick Wilson is no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in the likes of three Conjuring movies and three Insidious movies (one of which he directed), among other things – but I never would have predicted that his name would be attached to a stage musical adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys (watch it Here). Especially not as a producer. But producing a The Lost Boys stage musical is exactly what Wilson is doing, according to Deadline.

In 1989 Orion Pictures, along with Nelson Entertainment released Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The film was widely loved, and still is, to this day by both critics and fans alike. Because the film was so popular, spawned tons of merchandise and even had two spinoff shows…a sequel was inevitable.
This isn’t just any sequel, it’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. At the time regarded as a love it or hate it film and was considered a box office failure. So let’s go to hell, visit heaven, build some evil and good robots and face off in the Battle of Bands as we check out Bill & Ted’s bonkers follow up on this episode of Revisited.
As stated earlier, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure was released in February 1989 and became a huge success. People couldn’t get enough of the two brain dead yet incredibly...

As the Hollywood strikes stretched to Week 23, optimism is high that a deal between signatories and SAG-AFTRA is close and the town can go back to work. That enthusiasm could be felt with all the deal stories that Deadline broke this week, a clear signal of hope.
Not so fast, says Deadline Strike Talk host Billy Ray. Citing examples that range from director Ted Kotcheff changing the death of John Rambo in First Blood to Jackie Robinson retiring rather than the lifelong Dodger accepting a deal to play for the Giants and all that Jimmy Carter accomplished post-White House, Ray implores SAG-AFTRA to remember it isn’t who drew first blood but who sticks the landing. And for actors, that means safeguards against AI.
