Channel 4 has commissioned a second series of The Change, written by comedian Bridget Christie. Here are the details.
Bridget Christie has been on the comedy circuit for almost 20 years and has written Edinburgh Fringe shows in which she performed dressed as King Charles II, as well as making a memorable appearance on Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience, in which she performed a stand up set dressed as an ant.
She made her screenwriting debut last year with wonderful comedy drama The Change. The plot followed Christie as Linda, a menopausal woman who decides on a whim to abandon her home and husband to join a commune in the Forest of Dean, where she meets an eclectic variety of eccentric characters, and begins to discover another side of herself.

In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.
First up were Sally Lindsay, Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne, Alex Brooker, Konnie Huq and Ed Gamble. Next came Andi Oliver,...

You will soon be able to compete in a series of ridiculous tasks, as Taskmaster becomes a live experience.
There are few programmes on television as joyous as Taskmaster. Created by ‘Little’ Alex Horne, the startlingly simple premise see comedians and actors compete in silly challenges for the amusement of the Taskmaster, an always delightful Greg Davies.
The show was a sleeper hit, steadily building a dedicated, almost fanatical audience on Dave before switching to primetime on Channel 4. There have been many classic moments, such as Joe Wilkinson’s potato problem, Josh Widdecombe’s helpful admin (which nobody else had to do) and Liza Tarbuck making Alex sit on a cake.
The show then became popular worldwide, with multiple countries taking on the format. While the American version, hosted by Reggie Watts, didn’t fare so well, it was the New Zealand edition which really took off. Musical comic...

Kendall. Robinson. Duker. Ó’Briain. Martin. The fight is On.
The winners of Taskmaster series 11-15 are currently doing sit-ups, drinking pints of raw egg, and running up and down the steps outside Chiswick Library. They’re in training for Taskmaster’s third Champion of Champions contest.
A little reminder of the contenders for this title now, on account of the internet having destroyed everybody’s attention spans, and shrunk our ability to retain information for longer than it takes a toaster to pop.
Champion of Champions 3 Line-Up Sarah Kendall
Representing series 11 is the magnificently-maned Sarah Kendall, Australian comic, writer and actor. She’s technically the dunce of this operation going in with a whole-series points score of just 158, but a dynamite chick like her isn’t about to let that get in the way. The woman’s ready for the apocalypse at all times, do not underestimate her.

Imagine being someone who’s never seen Taskmaster. A virgin to joy. Someone whose eyes have never before drunk in the sight of a banana-Noel Fielding hiding in a fruit bowl, of Joe Wilkinson presenting the mayor of Chesham with 42 Calippo ice lollies, or of Charlotte Ritchie stumbling around a golf course blindfolded like an adorable Minion. What promise awaits! The prize tasks, the flashes of creative genius, the glorious failures… Alex Horne’s challenge-based comedy panel show is one of the most reliably entertaining TV programmes ever made.

Taskmaster was originally a hard sell. Channel execs worried that audiences would be bored by the cast not changing every episode. “People didn’t think viewers would tune in the next week to see the same comedians,” creator Alex Horne told Chortle, “we had to persuade them it was more like a sitcom than a panel show. Because actually, people got to know each contestant.”
Casting Taskmaster – in which five comedians compete in absurd challenges, wrangled by Alex Horne for the approval of Greg Davies – like a sitcom was one of the show’s many masterstrokes. If task-setting is all about encouraging a range of approaches (it’d be dull if everybody beautifully destroyed a cake in the same way) then the same goes for the series cast. Different personalities, from cool customers to chaos merchants, batty enthusiasts, neurotic overachievers, and ‘let’s fuck it all off’ rebels are required to clash and bond.

Ken Bruce has become the latest veteran presenter to leave BBC Radio 2, leaving the corporation after 45 years to host a show on commercial rival, Greatest Hits Radio.
The 71-year-old has been on the station since 1984, but told listeners: “I’ve done everything it is possible to do at Radio 2.”
He has hosted the 9:30am to 12pm weekday show since 1990, and been with the BBC since 1977 where he began as a presenter on Radio Scotland.
It comes after Steve Wright was nudged out his Radio 2 afternoon slot, with Simon Mayo, Graham Norton and Paul O’Grady also moving on in recent months.
“After 45 years of broadcasting on BBC Radio, it’s time for a change,” Bruce said on Tuesday.
“I would stress that this is entirely my decision. I will always be very proud of my association with the BBC and Radio 2.”

Ding ding, everybody off the Taskmaster bus! New passengers incoming! Series 12 – which taught us that Victoria Coren-Mitchell never learned how to ride a bike, Guz Khan owns more framed portraits of himself than is sensible, Desiree Burch can’t burst a balloon with a fork to save her life, Morgana Robinson is able to get goose bumps at will and Alan Davies still has a Jonathan Creek wig in his loft – has reached its climax. One lucky winner has skipped away merrily with the Taskmaster’s gleaming head as a prize and plenty of time to prepare for the inevitable Series 11-15 Champion of Champions special. Meanwhile the other four have skipped away safe in the knowledge that nobody is ever again likely to ask them to sit on a cake.

10 short weeks ago, none of us had seen Richard Herring feed half a watermelon to a slathering Daisy May Cooper, and frankly, we were the worse off for it. Neither had we witnessed The It Crowd’s Katherine Parkinson philosophically asking “Am I the spider?”, known how rigorously Johnny Vegas would apply himself to the task of putting the heaviest thing through a Christmas tree-bagger, or enjoyed Mawaan Rizwan thinking that if he filled an egg with helium, it would float like a happy little bee. All these, the tiny joys of a new series of Taskmaster.

Judi Dench and Ian McKellen offer solid support in a story of Shakespeare’s home life that tiptoes between fact and fiction
Ben Elton has written a sweet-natured, melancholy film about the retirement years of someone he’s lately been turning into his specialist subject: William Shakespeare. The great poet is played here with genial sympathy by the film’s director, Kenneth Branagh, sporting a pretty outrageous false nose. Judi Dench is his wife Anne Hathaway, wearied into resilient impassivity by grief, the unfairness of life and an awful secret. Ian McKellen has a colossal, emphatically wigged cameo as the ageing Earl of Southampton.
All Is True is sentimental, theatrical, likable – and unfashionable. There’s a cheekily imagined backstory for Shakespeare’s famous “second-best bed”. It doesn’t go for grand gestures or big subversive laughs, like John Madden’s romance Shakespeare In Love (1998) or Roland Emmerich’s Shakespeare-was-a-fraud caper...

Southcliffe, Channel 4's new four-part drama about a spree killing in an English village, was always going to be too relentlessly bleak for some tastes. However, if you could stomach the storyline, the first two episodes of the series (oddly scheduled on successive evenings) were utterly captivating television.
Unflinching, bold and harrowing, it posed uncomfortable questions and didn't hold back or censor the experience for viewers.
Sean Harris's performance as local outsider 'The Commander' was pitch perfect and scarily real, while Rory Kinnear as homecoming TV reporter and Anatol Yusef as sleazy cheat Paul, who loses his family in the tragedy, are also worthy of special note in a series that is overflowing with stunning actors and gut-wrenching moments.
Yes, the lingering camera shots were possibly a bit over-egged. And, yes, the regular jumping backwards and forwards in time was slightly frustrating. However,...

Johnny Vaughan has revealed that he would be up for a return to The Big Breakfast.
The broadcaster fronted the Channel 4 morning show from 1997 to 2001, and joked that Megan Fox would be his preferred co-host if it were to come back.
He told Bang Showbiz: "I think she'd be great to wake up to. I just quite like the idea of waking up with Megan Fox.
"The only reason I stopped last time was we'd just had a baby and it was just impossible. It wasn't working really."
> The Big Breakfast: Tube Talk Gold
Vaughan co-hosted the show with Denise Van Outen, Kelly Brook and Liza Tarbuck during his time on the show, and said that whoever presents the series must have good chemistry.
He added: "It makes it so much easier otherwise it can just be hard work. I was lucky I always had great people to do it with.

The story will center around the titular heroine and her four thirtysomething best friends as they explore life and love in Boston. Although the British original, which ran from 2001-02, was a half-hour show, the Fox version will reportedly feature hourlong episodes if it's picked up to series.
Fox and BBC Worldwide Productions are developing the dramedy along with Sony Pictures Television, and Abbott is set to executive produce. Borstein and Abbott have worked together previously, with Borstein writing and producing Abbott's Us version of "Shameless" for Showtime.

BBC Radio 2 DJ Simon Mayo is to host a brand new series of cult hexagon based quiz show Blockbusters, Challenge TV have announced.
Produced by Thames and filmed at Sky’s new production facility Sky Studios, Blockbusters will return to our screens later this spring.
The move comes just a few weeks after the sad death of Bob Holness, the long running host who was synonymous with the UK favourite program that actually debuted in the Us in 1980, but enjoyed its best run between 1983 and 1994 in this country. Less notable hosts Michael Aspel and Liza Tarbuck have hosted revived versions of Blockbusters in the years since Holness left.
“Blockbusters is the ultimate cult TV quiz, and we think that Simon Mayo is the perfect host to bring it back to our screens,” commented Barbara Gibbon, director of Challenge TV. “We hope that it will be popular not only with those...

The strength of this directorial debut by an experienced producer resides in the warm friendship it establishes between its central characters, the 15-year-old Liverpool schoolboys Robbie (Josh Bolt) and Ziggy (Eugene Byrne), both newcomers to acting. However, the story in which they appear is a little tricky and at times somewhat distasteful: Robbie, who has an incurable heart disease and is determined to lose his virginity before his imminent death, persuades his chum to find a woman to have sex with him for love, money or feminine duty. There is a likable performance from Liza Tarbuck as the big-hearted nurse in charge of Robbie's hospital ward, but the direction is often uneasy and the acting tentative.
A couple of years ago, Mark Herman's Purely Belter, a lively tale of the friendship between two Tyneside teenage lads, made impressive use of Antony Gormley's steel sculpture Angel of the North.

A British film bound for Italy, but not Britain, a pooch with talent and, quelle surprise, an exhibitionist French actor
• It has been a week of furious deal-making in Cannes, so spare a thought for film-maker Bruce Webb and his movie The Be All and End All, about a sick scouse teenager who desperately wants to have sex before he dies. With a cast that includes Liza Tarbuck, it is a very English working-class comedy that will be seen in Scandinavia and Italy but not the UK. Webb said: "It's baffling really, mystifying. We've won four awards and we're being asked to so many Us festivals that we can't even supply the prints."

Mackenzie Crook, Peter Capaldi and Richard Eyre inject credibility into Sky's season of dialogue-free short films
'Tis the season to be merry; it's also clearly the season for celebrity-studded short-film portmanteau seasons. Sky1 has come up with a Christmas-themed collection of 11 films lasting 10 minutes, all dialogue-free, that is unabashedly heartwarming, but also manages to inject a surprising amount of cinematic credibility into proceedings.
This sort of thing is normally a refuge for TV names taking a moment off from the day job and attempting to "stretch", or giving a shot in the director's chair for some actor or other – and the likes of Ross Kemp, Liza Tarbuck, Paterson Joseph and Peter Capaldi are all present and correct.
But there are some very odd participants floating about in Ten Minute Tales, people who I'd have thought would never have gone near a seasonal schmaltz-fest. For one, graphic novel maestro Neil Gaiman,...
