VH1 liked the response to their film, The Breaks, so much that they’ve decided to continue the story as a series, and it has just been announced that Gloria Reuben is joining the cast.
Reuben will round out the cast as Malthuas “Mattie” Taylor, a department head at a major record company, who will obviously become an integral part of the lives of the three hip-hop artist friends chasing their dreams in 90’s New York.

Landing in Us cinemas in just over a month’s time, Free Birds marks Relativity Media’s entrance into the world of animation.
The comedy, previously titled Turkeys, boasts a fantastic voice cast, led by Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, and Amy Poehler. And that, alone, should be encouragement enough.

When you think about all the children.s movies out there, animated or live action, Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that just doesn.t get that much play (though Chinese New Year also gets a similar cold shoulder). But Relativity Media.s Free Birds - formerly known by the less-than-clever name Turkeys - is here to change that. In fact, it.s here to change Thanksgiving forever. The film.s first trailer, courtesy of Apple, is actually funnier than I thought it would be, but not by much. That said, I.m still pretty into the premise, and I think it could allow for a wide range of clever storytelling, though I.m not entirely sure I trust the writers involved - including John J. Strauss (The Wild) and David I. Stern (Open Season 2), who did the story, and writers Jimmy Hayward and Scott Mosier. If they completely...

Every single year, the President of the United States pardons a single turkey from being eaten for Thanksgiving. But what happens to that turkey afterwards? Apparently he lives the life of luxury. Owen Wilson voices a pardoned turkey who has his cushy life interrupted when he's recruited by another high strung, eccentric turkey (Woody Harrelson) to go back in time and stop their kind from being on the menu at the very first Thanksgiving. Amy Poehler also lends her voice to the animated time travel adventure Free Birds from the director of Horton Hears a Who!, and it looks like some good holiday fun. Here's the first trailer for Jimmy Hayward's Free Birds, originally from Apple: Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!) directs Free Birds, written by Craig Mazin (The Hangover sequels), David I. Stern (Open Season sequels) and John J. Strauss (The Santa Clause sequels). Two turkeys (Owen...

Why wait eight years between the original Santa Clause and its follow-up, The Santa Clause 2? This is a question I’ve been asking myself over the last week, before I watched the film for our podcast, during our recording, and now. I didn’t bring it up on the show, because I imagine the question would’ve just floated out into virtual nothingness. But I wonder. The first film opened in November of 1994 to moderate critical acclaim and strong box office returns. I honestly don’t remember how “angry” I might’ve sounded on the podcast last year (Gabe described me as such in our discussion this week), but when my wife puts the original on,...

The Wild
Directed by Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams
Written by Ed Decter, John J. Strauss, Mark Gibson, and Philip Halprin
Starring Kiefer Sutherland, James Belushi, William Shatner
Every movie, every television show, every book, every play, and every musical needs to have internal logic inherent in its creation. No matter how ridiculous the premise is—a man dresses as a bat to fight crime, a high-school teacher resorts to cooking methamphetamines to make money, and so on—there must be logic present. If there isn’t, the story falls apart as soon as you think about it. The real trick that some filmmakers or other creative types can employ is not making you think about the story while you’re experiencing it. As an example, while I loved Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and can’t wait to watch it over and over on Blu-ray, does it hold up to intense scrutiny?...

Just like the series it was most recently paired with, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, USA Network's U.S. Marshal drama In Plain Sight too will be coming to an end. The network has ordered an eight-episode fifth and final season to air in the spring. In Plain Sight marked the first major USA series under the network's current regime that had a female lead, Mary McCormack. The network was so high on her, they delayed the series' launch by a year when she got pregnant. In Plain Sight went through several showrunners, most recently Ed Decter and John J. Strauss, who joined before Season 4 and will return for the final eight episodes. The fourth-season finale of In Plain Sight aired on Sunday and was up 6% from the Season 3 closer. For the season, the series averaged 4.9 million viewers, up 8% from last year. In other USA news, the sixth season of...

Here's an animated film for the vegetarians out there, something to put on the shelf next to "Chicken Run": it's called "Turkeys," and it's about two gobblers who discover a time machine, travel back to pre-Colonial times and stop their kind from being made synonymous with Thanksgiving dinner. I'm not sure what else they suggest to take their place on the menu, but I'm guessing it won't be another kind of meat, which would make this like an adaptation of a Chik-fil-a commercial.
Variety reports that the turkey duo will be voiced by Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, which implies that these birds will be lovable loser-types: slackers, surfers or even stoners. "Turkeys" will be a family film though, despite the fact that it's being executive produced Peter Farrelly, so don't expect explicit drug jokes or anything too raunchy.

NBC has handed out pilot orders to Kevin Falls' sci-fi drama Journeyman and to suburban one-hour The Watch from There's Something About Mary writers Ed Decter and John J. Strauss.
Additionally, the network has lifted the contingency on three comedy pilots: I'm With Stupid, The IT Crowd and "Kath & Kim."
Journeyman, from 20th Century Fox TV, has received a cast-contingent order. It is an epic romantic fantasy about a man who travels back in time to alter and fix the lives of people in trouble, but by recalibrating the past, he sometimes affects the future.
Emmy winner Falls (NBC's The West Wing) is the writer/executive producer. The project originally was picked up by NBC in August with a put pilot commitment (HR 8/21).
The Watch, from Sony Pictures TV and Pariah, revolves around a suburban neighborhood watch group gone awry.
Decter and Strauss, whose credits also include the two Santa Clause sequels, are executive producing with Pariah's Gavin Polone and Jamie Tarses.
I'm With Stupid, The IT Crowd and "Kath & Kim" were given cast-contingent pilot orders in November (HR 11/9).
