- He played the part of the Anglican Bishop in John Ford's The Quiet Man (1952). He got his nickname, 'Bish', filming this movie. When he came off the set during one scene, some nuns thought he was a real Bishop and they wanted to kiss his ring.
- Died during the 423rd stage performance of "East Lynne", a musical comedy melodrama. It was directed and rewritten by him, and became a smash hit in Australia. He died in the arms of his wife, Betty Bailey-Stanton, who was a performer in the show as well.
