Jack Huston cast in 'Ben-Hur' remake? 'Boardwalk Empire' actor to follow in the footsteps of Ramon Novarro and Charlton Heston Jack Huston, best known for playing World War I veteran-turned-bootlegger-cum-assassin Richard Harrow in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, may star in the latest Ben-Hur "remake," to be jointly produced by Paramount and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. I have "remake" between quotes because officially this fourth big-screen version of the semi-biblical epic (more on that below) isn't an actual remake of either the multiple Oscar-winning 1959 Ben-Hur or its 1925 predecessor, but a direct adaptation of former Civil War general Lew Wallace's 1880 bestselling novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, which happens to be conveniently in the public domain. Timur Bekmambetov, whose credits include the Angelina Jolie-James McAvoy thriller Wanted and the supernatural cult classic Night Watch, has been attached as director of what is in fact A Tale...

Liam Neeson Continues Hot Action Streak As "Non-Stop" Tops Charts. Universal Pictures' "Non-Stop" grossed an estimated $30.01 million over the Oscar weekend, averaging $9,715 per theater from 3,090 locations, according to Rentrak. The film reunites Neeson with his "Unknown" director Jaume Collet-Sera, and also includes Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery, Nate Parker and Corey Stoll. In second with a very-solid $26.5 million debut, 20th Century Fox's "Son of God" turned in over $26.5 million from its 3,260 theaters, averaging $8,129. The faith-based film starring Diogo Morgdao, Amber Rose Revah and Sebastian Knapp, is directed by Christopher Spencer. Pic should stay on well, and show minimal changes each week of its box office run. Third-placed animated "block" buster "The Lego Movie" continued to turn in solid coin for Warner Bros. with a decent $21 million in its fourth weekend trial. That takes the film's domestic cume past $200 million with money in the region of $209 million. Overseas, the...

As the news broke this week that Paul Greengrass is interested in finding a way to bring "Zealot" the bigscreen, it made me sad that we still haven't seen Paul Verhoeven's proposed movie about the historical Jesus Christ. It's a subject Verhoeven's been studying for decades now, and I have to imagine he would bring a real breadth of knowledge to his approach. Like Verhoeven, I would assume Greengrass is going to try to dig deep to show us something we haven't already seen from this story. Any time a filmmaker tries to tackle a subject as big and vague as "Jesus" for a movie, you're going to learn a lot about the filmmaker from the final product. However, Christopher Spencer has put that theory of mine to the test by turning in a genuinely bland and forgettable picture here, about as middle-of-the-road as a movie can be. I...

Son of God, the silver screen spinoff of the History Channel miniseries The Bible, endeavors to bring the story of Christian prophet and savior Jesus Christ to a mass audience.
Directed by Christopher Spencer, Son of God is a cut-and-paste edit of the ten-hour miniseries that aired on the niche network last year. The story of Diego Morgardo’s Jesus focuses primarily on the events that unfold after Jesus meets Peter and continues through to his death and resurrection. While the miniseries was a smash hit, the feature’s reception from critics is far from warm.
Aside from a few generous reviews, including one from The Seattle Times critic John Hartl, the majority of the feedback on Son of God indicates that The Bible producers Mark Burnett and his wife Roma Downey should have quit while they were ahead. The biblical epic, while appreciated for its coherency, has received ample...

What would Jesus think of entertainment producers who translated his life story to the big screen in the hopes of a multimillion dollar payout? Does it make a difference if the film intends to bolster the faith of believers through shock and awe? What if it fails entirely at convincing doubters and skeptics of his worldview — or even at explaining why they should share his values? All of the above applies to “Son of God,” a lavish hunk of sermon-tainment with all the gravitas of a Communion wafer. Married producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey had director Christopher Spencer...

Chicago – Actress Roma Downey and Producer Mark Burnett are on a mission. After producing the huge success of the miniseries “The Bible” last year, the husband-and-wife team now turn to the “greatest story ever told” – the life of Jesus Christ – in the new film “Son of God.”
Roma Downey is no stranger to the ethereal aspects of religious themed programming. For nine seasons, she was the star of “Touched by an Angel,” portraying a heavenly messenger who guided earthbound humans at their crossroads. Mark Burnett is a familiar name in the television universe, having produced several mega-successful reality shows including “Survivor,” “The Voice,” “Shark Tank” and “The Apprentice.” The couple were married in 2007, and last year produced the number one rated cable TV miniseries, “The Bible.” The 10 episodes followed the book from the beginning in the Old Testament (Genesis) to the Letters of Paul in the New Testament.

Following the success of "The Bible" on History, the producers are back with another tale inspired by the religious book. Son of God follows Jesus Christ (Diogo Morgado) from his birth to his loyally followed teachings and milestone events such as the crucifixion and resurrection. This is the first time a major motion picture from a studio like 20th Century Fox has focused on Jesus since the controversial but successful Passion of the Christ from Mel Gibson, and now we have a trailer. Because of the subject matter, this has a built-in audience who will take buses to see the film, but we doubt it will be a box office giant. Here's the trailer for Christopher Spencer's Son of God, originally from Yahoo: Son of God is directed by Christopher Spencer ("The Bible") from a script co-written by Colin Swash, Nic Young & Richard Bedser (all writers of "The Bible...

A short clip of the surveillance video that captures Lindsay Lohan shopping at Kamofie & Co. has been released. Coming out via Entertainment Tonight (Et), the 30-second footage clearly shows the "Mean Girls" actress browsing through the Venice, California store dressed in denim hot pants and a black shirt.
In the teaser, the 24-year-old made her entrance followed by a male friend behind. Once inside the store, she leaned over the glass counter, waiting for the shop assistant placing items on top. She then tried on a couple of rings before laying them back in the tray. The troubled actress looked calm, relaxed and smiling while browsing around.
The full video was obtained by The Associated Press and licensed to Et and its sister show "The Insider". It is around 42 minutes in length and shows four different camera angles. Et has promised to release the security tape in full on Monday night,...

The famous surveillance video that shows Lindsay Lohan stealing (or not stealing) a necklace from a Venica, Calif. jewelry store has finally gone public.
"We were upset with the various mischaracterizations we were seeing and hearing about the video and its contents, and we felt the video should be allowed to speak for itself," read a statement from Kamofie and Co. spokesman Christopher Spencer.
Entertainment Tonight aired a teaser clip of the 24-year-old actress inside the boutique, which can be seen below. The Insider plans to air the whole thing at some point.
"We repeat that Kamofie never gave permission to Ms. Lohan to remove the necklace from the store," Spencer continued. "The rest is up to the jury."

While talks about Lindsay Lohan's surveillance video are all over the web, a sneak peek to the said footage has hit the web in a form of screen captions. The troubled singer is clearly visible at these images - she is seen inside the store with a companion.
The troubled singer came to Kamofie & Co., a jeweler located near her new home in L.A.'s Venice Beach district, and tried on some jewelry pieces. The pictures were released as a teaser to the video capturing the moment when she allegedly stole a $2,500 necklace from the store.
The footage has been shopped around with its recent price tag reaching around $35,000, and it's expected to come out on Monday night, March 7. It has gone out to the Associated Press, who is handling the licensing and distribution of the tape and stills.

Lindsay Lohan was probably hoping her screen return was going to be something a little better than a straight-to-internet feature. A website has popped up claiming to have licensed the surveillance video and photos that allegedly show the Mean Girls star shopping at a Venice jewelry store, a visit that led to her being charged with felony grand theft for allegedly stealing a now-infamous $2,500 necklace. HollywoodNews.com: As it has been revealed that the surveillance video of Lindsay Lohan at the jewelry store where the alleged theft took place has been sold, an explanation is now being given.
A rep for Kamofie & Co. has reportedly revealed that the store needed to sell the tape because their business is struggling, states RadarOnline.com. “Customers have stayed away from the store because of the paparazzi and the controversy,” Christopher Spencer reportedly commented.
Spencer claims that this wasn’t a move to make a profit, but to just recover their losses. Also, Spencer commented that the tape was not secret evidence and would have been released during the trial anyway.
