Among horror fans, "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" is generally regarded as one of the best entries of the fantasy slasher franchise, which is now nine films deep. It's the entry that cemented Freddy Krueger as the wisecracking child killer he's known as now, an evolution that took creator Wes Craven's original concept and expanded it to give his monster more commercial appeal.
The third installment comes along on the success of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge," a sequel that, like its predecessor, follows a teenager battling the evil spirit of a scarred, blade-gloved child killer. Freddy operates in the dream world, and his signature striped sweater and filthy brown fedora are often the last things his victims see before their dream death and corresponding real-world death. New Line Cinema struck gold with the "Nightmare" movies; their baddie, unlike the hulking Jason Voorhees or strong,...

August 2022 marks the 58th anniversary of Walt Disney's "Mary Poppins." Featuring Julie Andrews as the titular nanny from the beloved P.L. Travers book series, the critically acclaimed live-action/animated hybrid became the highest-grossing movie of 1964 and was the only Walt Disney Studios film to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards during the founder's lifetime.
However, like many films of that era and prior, there aren't many pieces of screen used memorabilia left to display and share with the adoring public. Those involved in the productions at the time viewed such items as "just props" to be disposed of when cameras stopped rolling. That's why Roy O. Disney founded the Walt Disney Archives in 1970, with the goal of collecting, preserving, and making props available not just for research but so future generations could enjoy them. Luckily, when it comes to the practically perfect Poppins, some people worked hard...

Jason Momoa is all over the place these days. In addition to preparing for the release of the next "Aquaman" movie and playing the villain in the tenth installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, he's also set to star in the live-action "Minecraft" adaptation, an action-comedy called "Shots! Shots! Shots!," the fantasy murder mystery "The Executioner," a Hawaiian historical drama "Chief of War," and much more. Since the statuesque beefcake of an actor is someone that many consider the man of their dreams, I don't think too many people will be complaining.
In fact, the former "Game of Thrones" star has also taken a starring role in the World of Dreams. Based on the acclaimed comic strip "Little Nemo In Slumberland" by Winsor McCay, he will appear in the upcoming Netflix movie "Slumberland." Ahead of the film's fall premiere, the streamer has released the first teaser that gives off...

The reviews are in, and Us officially lives up to the hype. In fact, Jordan Peele's new horror film, starring Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong'o, Elisabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker, currently has a 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Now that we've invested in a ginormous nightlight (a floor lamp from Target that we plan to leave on at all times), we've been doing a deep dive on our new favorite horror cast ensemble. We knew Heidecker, the actor who plays Josh Tyler/Tex, looked familiar, but when we realized we knew him as one half of Tim & Eric, we couldn't believe it. It turns out the actor-writer-comedian-director-musician is quite the chameleon, and his past work speaks for itself.
Heidecker got his start when he teamed up with Eric Wareheim to create, write, and star in the animated series Tom Goes to the Mayor, which aired on Adult Swim from 2004 to 2006. The...

Shooting one quaint room with only four inhabitants doesn’t exactly scream “cinematic,” at least not in the conventional sense of the word. For a considerable portion of Saving Mr. Banks, we’re watching creative sessions involving P.L. Travers (Emma Thomspon), screenwriter Don DaGradi (Bradley Whitford), and songwriters Richard (Jason Schwartzman) and Bob Sherman (B.J. Novak) attempting to adapt Mary Poppins. Generally absent from those scenes is Tom Hanks, an actor with no shortage of charisma. Not having Hanks’s Walt Disney participating is fine though as the others happily match his charm. Director John Lee Hancock (The Blindside) cast these roles based on the energy needs of that room. Discussing those scenes with Hancock, it’s apparent how much those moments standout for him as well: “That room was a rehearsal room. We put a lot of care and design into it. We had, like, 20-something pages of the script in there. For...

Here's your eldritch curio for the day: Random House UK -- yes, the book publishing giant -- has released a free-to-play interactive fiction game called "The Black Crown Project."
Penned by Rob Sherman, "The Black Crown Project" is a weird fiction tale about a newly-employed clerk at the mysterious Widsith Institute whose job it is -- so far -- to read read files. I've played enough to use all my available action points twice, which has allowed me to stab a dying pig with a ballpoint pen and be carried to my desk by some arcane horror.
It's all been very weird, a touch overwrought, and somewhat pulpy and Lovecraftian, but there's a certain tone and texture to the setting and premise that would be fun to explore. Here's an official synopsis:
Over the course of the story, users will begin to learn about the mysterious figure of the Miasma Eremite,...

The Disney and ABC Television Group kicked off the first of its two-day Television Critics Association winter press tour stint with cable net ABC Family on Monday morning. Network president Michael Riley touted the network’s success with millennials – especially young women – that allowed the Disney-owned network to launch a third night of original programming in 2011, even if they must still play host to controversial television evangelist Pat Robertson’s 700 Club. After a parade of tween-friendly fare and an introduction to the cast of ABC Daytime's soap replacement, The Revolution, ABC News president Bob Sherman
