Chicago – With the success of mystery shows like “C.S.I.” and “The Mentalist,” why not try and bring back a staple of the ’70s and ’80s TV scene, the mystery movie of the week? Such is the thinking behind TNT’s programmers, as the network will debut a whopping four stand-alone mystery movies in the next month, starting with tonight’s debut of “Scott Turow’s Innocent,” starring Bill Pullman, Marcia Gay Harden, Alfred Molina, and Richard Schiff. Despite the stellar cast, this is a limp, dull effort that will only serve to remind viewers why they don’t make TV movies like this often any more.
Television Rating: 2.0/5.0
Twenty years ago, Turow made waves with the book and film for the tight mystery of “Presumed Innocent.” In Alan Pakula’s film, Harrison Ford memorably played Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who watched his life turn upside down after his mistress ended up dead.

Let's start the weekly round-up with Grimm.
Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.
Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:
Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):
It’s nice to see your character – like the main character – has the duality.

TNT and TBS, which staged their Upfront presentation today in New York, are making bold moves to bolster their remarkably strong foundations in original programming. The networks are developing extensive new lineups of scripted and unscripted series and making a new push into half-hour comedy in partnership with some of the top talents in the industry, from award-winning actors to acclaimed producers, writers and best-selling authors.
This year marks the beginning of production of the final season of the blockbuster hit, The Closer, starring Emmy® winner Kyra Sedgwick. TNT confirmed today that it has ordered a 10-episode season of Major Crimes, a series set in the Los Angeles Police Department that promises to become television’s next great crime drama. The seventh and final season of The Closer will include 15 episodes in 2011 and six in summer 2012, leading into the launch of Major Crimes, starring Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica). It looks like Andy Richter will be stepping from behind the podium on Conan to another podium (I am guessing) for a new game show on TBS entitled Pyramid. The show is reportedly a modern-day take on the iconic game show that began asThe $10,000 Pyramid.

As it picked up drama pilot Perception to series today, I hear TNT passed on the other two pilots that had been in contention: Mike Robe's Bird Dog, about a father-daughter cop team, and Allan Loeb's untitled project based on Marshall Karp's novel The Rabbit Factory. The single series order to come out of the three pilots leaves some shelf space as TNT is yet to receive the two highest-profile pilots from this batch: the Dallas reboot, which is in pre-production, and the Robert Redford-produced Generations, which is in early stages of casting.

CW Unveils Midseason Schedule, Hellcats Moves To Tuesdays
The CW today became the latest network to release its mid-season schedule. With only one hole to fill, that of departing sophomore Life Unexpected which did not receive a back order. The network is moving freshman drama Hellcats to Lux's Tuesday 9 p.m. slot behind One Tree Hill. The rest of the schedule will remain intact. The majority of the CW’s primetime schedule will return with originals the week of January 24, with the season (and probably series) finale of Lux slated to air in back to back episodes on Jan. 18.
Big Brother's Rachel Reilly Talks Scandal and Soaps
Brendon Villegas, whom she met and fell in love with on Big Brother, sent photos of his naked genitals to a woman he met online. (In an apology video, Villegas claims he was being blackmailed). The incident abruptly ended Reilly's relationship with Villegas.

Exclusive: Former Ugly Betty star Eric Mabius has joined the cast of TNT's drama pilot Bird Dog, while Carla Gallo (Get Him to the Greek) is set to co-star opposite Amanda Walsh in the CW pilot Danni Lowinski. Mabius, repped by Icm and manager Geordie Frey, recently wrapped the BBC series Outcasts and the NBA-themed feature Amazing. Danni Lowinski is named after the series' central character: a scrappy hairdresser (Walsh) who graduates from law school but is brushed off by law firms and sets up her own practice in a shopping mall kiosk. Eliza Dushku likes a good mystery.
According to Deadline she will be getting one soon as our second favorite vampire slayer is headed back to the small screen in the new TNT pilot, Bird Dog.
This time, the mystery is a bit less supernatural and she will be starring as a police officer in a small town in the Pacific northwest. Bird Dog will focus on the sometimes strained relationship between Dushku's character (Gail McGrath) and her father when they become partners on the police force. Mike Robe wrote and directed the pilot.
The actress also tweeted her excitement earlier:

Eliza Dushku has booked her next lead role in a TV project, and it's a little more conventional than the last one.
Dushku, who last starred in Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse," has taken the lead role in a TNT pilot called "Bird Dog." She'll play a small-town cop who winds up with an unlikely new partner -- her dad.
The project comes from veteran TV writer and director Mike Robe (TNT's "Nightmares and Dreamscapes," "Return to Lonesome Dove"), Deadline reports. Dushku's character is a city girl who willingly left that life in the rear-view mirror when she moved to the Pacific Northwest to become a police officer. It's working pretty well for her until her estranged dad, an NYPD veteran, shows up and becomes her new partner.
If it's picked up, "Bird Dog" would be the first cable series for Dushku, who also starred in "Tru Calling" and logged time on two other Whedon shows,...

How does a petite mother of two, a former lieutenant in the Israeli army, someone schooled more in the fine arts of dance and theater than hoops and NASCAR come to be one of the most important players for ESPN? Ever since she produced 2002's The Junction Boys, about college football coaching legend Bear Bryant, Orly Adelson has become ESPN's go-to person for scripted drama. With nearly a dozen series and film projects in various stages of development at ESPN, Adelson's relative lack of sports knowledge is something her creative partners joke about but also see as one of her strengths. Her latest ESPN original telefilm production, Hustle, a Peter Bogdanovich-directed biopic of one of baseball's most controversial figures, Pete Rose, premieres Saturday. "At out first meeting, I liked her right away," recalls Junction Boys writer-director Mike Robe. "I thought to myself of the irony of the situation: Here I am, a lifelong sports junkie, signing up to write a story about American college football with this elegant woman from Israel who I'm going to be working with, and I don't know if she knows a gridiron from a waffle iron."...
