It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia may not return to television for a little while, but the gang is gearing up to get back to work on the forthcoming 17th season at FX, and TV Insider got the scoop from stars Danny DeVito and Kaitlin Olson, who were on the Disney Upfront red carpet in New York City on May 14. “We’re very excited about Season 17,” DeVito gushes. The actor plays the chaotic father figure Frank Reynolds to the ragtag crew working at Paddy’s Pub. “I love working with these guys, Charlie [Day] and Glenn [Howerton] and Rob [McElhenney] and Kaitlin,” he adds, joking in the manner his character would that “[There’s] the guys, and then there’s the woman and they’re my kids. They’re like my kids and I love going to work.” Patrick McElhenney/FX While they couldn’t share much, Olson, who plays Dee “Sweet Dee” Reynolds, says,...

Watching "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is hilarious, so one can only imagine what it's like to be in the same room when the gang are engaging in their over-the-top antics. The "Always Sunny" blooper reels have always been pretty great because there are so many fun little alternate line-readings and moments where everyone loses it, with a few rather funny highlights of their own. I get the giggles every time I imagine Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day cracking up talking about "the white hot cream" of a preteen Charlie in "The Gang Dances Their A**es Off," for example. Laughing can be contagious, and chuckling along with folks behind the gang is pretty easy, but apparently even star Glenn Howerton sometimes bursts into bouts of laughter when he thinks about how much he lost it during one particular moment in season 10.

The main characters of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are so outrageous they seem like they couldn't possibly be based in real life, and Frank is perhaps the strangest of them all. Portrayed by the incomparable Danny DeVito, Dennis and Dee's millionaire father chooses to move into their friend Charlie's tiny apartment and leave his upper-class lifestyle behind.
"He's got the Midas touch, but he misses living in squalor," DeVito explained in an interview with The New York Times. "The one line that got me hooked to do the show was that I had a scene with Charlie Day, and I say [...] 'Let me come and live with you, man. I miss living in this Bohemian style.'"
Frank develops several new bohemian quirks, like a "toe knife" he uses to dig the scum out of his toenails, a habit of eating cat food before bed, and a penchant for...

The cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has a bone to pick with the Emmys: They want an award.
Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito took the stage Monday night to present the award for Outstanding Talk Series.
“What an honor it is to be here at the 75th Emmy Awards,” Olson began.
“Wait, what?” Howerton interjected. “Seventy-five years? The show’s been on for 75 years? We’ve been on the air since 2005. I’ve never been here.”
“Have you guys been doing this every single year without us?” Day then asked.
“They do. They get dressed up. They give each other awards,” McElhenney said. “And 16 seasons we’ve never even presented before.”
Day then asked DeVito if the Emmys have ever given him an award, to which the man behind Frank Reynolds casually said, “Yeah.”

Most of the central cast in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" were young when they appeared in Miloš Forman's 1975 movie. But with Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, and the inimitable Jack Nicholson (to name just a few of the film's stars), Forman was going to have to try really hard to mess up his adaptation of Ken Kesey's 1962 novel. Luckily, the Czech director actually did a standout job of it, delivering a film often cited as one of the 20th century's finest. After a decade of delays, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" made it to the big screen, and while Forman's direction was excellent, the movie perhaps wouldn't occupy as vaunted a position as it does without that top-notch cast.

Frank Reynolds is one of the most deranged characters in the history of television, taking performer Danny DeVito's lewd, lascivious Louie DePalma character from "Taxi" and turning it up to 11. DeVito plays him as a total human disaster, complete with animal-like grunts, belches, and gurgles. It's hard not to laugh at Frank, but it might feel altogether different being in the same room with him, which is what happened to one "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" co-star early on in the series. DeVito isn't a method actor by any stretch of the imagination, but he does have a warm-up routine that helps him become Frank, and it totally freaked out one actor while filming the season 2 episode "Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom."

The comedic stylings of the team behind "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" can get pretty raunchy and weird, but actor Danny DeVito has been on board for almost all of their depraved ideas over the years. As Frank Reynolds, the patriarch of "the gang," DeVito has rolled around in hand sanitizer in his underwear, eaten the ingredients of a cake in a dog crate, and more, but there is one bit of the gang's comedy stylings that doesn't really tickle his funny bone. As they often do, the writers of the series turned that discomfort into a joke in one of the episodes, poking fun at the situation through Frank.
On the "Always Sunny Podcast," co-writers/producers/stars Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, and Rob McElhenney were joined by co-writer and producer Megan Ganz and co-star Kaitlin Olson to discuss the episode "Mac and Dennis: Manhunters," which features the joke in question.

Amidst a storm of controversy surrounding the MCU, Scarlett Johansson chimed in about the potential return of her iconic hero, Black Widow. She even mentioned the possibility of portraying Black Widow in undead form.
“Speaking on the Today Show about her new skincare products (as one does), Johansson did not seem prepared when Al Roker asked about her character, Black Widow, potentially returning. ‘I feel like [Avengers: Endgame] is kind of the end, right?’ Johansson said. ‘Like, can you come back? Could it be like a vampire version of the character? Because I’m here for that. Like a zombie version, maybe.'”

Emmy-and-Golden Globe winning actor. Oscar-nominated producer. Director. Writer. In his 50 years in the industry, Danny DeVito has worn many hats, becoming one of the most successful and popular entertainers of his generation.

The characters on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are all Philly natives who have lived in the city for their entire lives, but none of them really seem to speak with a Philadelphia accent. Only one cast member is actually from Philadelphia, and even he doesn't have much of an accent, so what gives? On the episode of the "Always Sunny Podcast" where Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Glenn Howerton discussed "Mac and Charlie Write a Movie," the trio revealed why the characters don't speak with traditional Philly parlance other than the occasional slip from McElhenney, who grew up there. It turns out that the Philly accent is really unusual and not only would it be difficult for the actors to nail it, but audiences might not believe it's real.

Last week, we ran a special Wtf episode about the 1979 Disney movie, The Black Hole, an uncommonly adult film for the family-friendly studio. It kicked off an experiment for the studio to move into adult fare, eventually spawning no less than three subsidiaries that produced some of the most influential movies of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. These off-shoots paved the way for Disney’s place as the most powerful motion picture studio in the world, with them owning Lucasfilm, Pixar and the MCU. With the studio celebrating its 100th anniversary, we figured now would be an opportune time to look back at the studio Disney launched to distribute their more grown-up fare, the now shuttered Touchstone Pictures.

Of all the ways to describe "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," the phrase "'Seinfeld' on crack" is perhaps the most popular. Both shows follow around a few eccentric, petty, self-absorbed friends who are each incapable of maintaining any kind of meaningful relationship outside of their own closed-off group. The difference is that the characters on "Seinfeld" weren't sniffing glue or beating up the local children.
For the creators of "Always Sunny," however, the main inspirations were not exactly "Seinfeld," but two newer, more experimental shows. On Conan O'Brien's podcast, Charlie Day explained how, when they were making the decision to film their own sitcom, they based it on the success of the British version of "The Office," and Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has a lot of standout episodes, but the season 4 finale, "The Nightman Cometh," is definitely up there. It was not the show's first time dabbling with musical sequences, nor its last, but it's definitely the one people remember most. It's the one where Charlie puts his heart into writing a romantic coming-of-age story to impress his long-term stalkee The Waitress, but instead accidentally writes a musical about a kid getting molested.
Even for the actors themselves, this episode still sticks with them. "I never stopped singing, 'You gotta pay the troll toll to get into that boy's hole,'" Danny DeVito told GQ in a 2018 oral history on the episode. "After that episode, wherever I'd go, people would scream it [at me] out of windows." That line was yet another dark misunderstanding: Charlie wrote the line as "boy's soul," not hole, but the two phrases sound tragically similar,...

The long-running TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with Danny DeVito pulls no punches when it comes to its satirical humor and outrageous storylines. Frank Reynolds, played by DeVito, is one of the best characters for spreading chaos. But DeVito needed time to fully discover how out-of-control Frank could be.

Danny DeVito will return to the Broadway stage this October in a new play by Theresa Rebeck called I Need That.
The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor will star alongside his daughter Lucy DeVito and Ray Anthony Thomas in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of what the company describes as “a deeply human new comedy.”
Preview and opening night dates for I Need That at Roundabout’s American Airlines Theatre will be announced later.
The synopsis: Sam (DeVito) doesn’t get out much. Actually, he doesn’t get out at all, opting instead for the safety of his house in the company of his things – his many, many things. But when a notice from the government arrives alerting Sam that he must clean up his property or face eviction, he’s forced to reckon with what’s trash, what’s treasure, and whether we can ever know the difference between the two.

Over the past few weeks, the Gang has been hard at work in the studio filming the new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Kaitlin Olson confirms It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 16 has wrapped filming, at least for her character, Dee Reynold’s scenes.

For many die-hard It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans, it was disappointing to discover that Hulu (Netflix in the UK) has removed many of the episodes from their platform. Five episodes of the boundary-pushing satirical comedy show have been removed from the streaming services. For fans looking to watch the banned episodes, here’s how to find them.
Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito and Charlie Day, ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ | Photo by Michael Buckner/Getty Images Which episodes of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ were removed?
The Gang comprises five raging alcoholic narcissists, Dee Reynolds, Dennis Reynolds, Frank Reynolds, Mac (Ronald MacDonald), and Charlie Kelly, who run a failing Irish pub in a fictionalized South Philadelphia. The Gang’s search for money, fame, or sex often leads them into sticky situations that frequently blow up in their faces — both figuratively and literally.

No sitcom embodies the spirit of Philadelphia sports fans more than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The raucous, ill-mannered gang bleeds for Philadelphia sports — particularly the Phillies in the MLB, and the Eagles in the NFL. They’ve concocted riot punch, climbed through sewer tunnels, and racked up parking fines when the Phillies won the World Series, and rode in questionable transportation to watch the Eagles play in the 2018 Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
All that makes sense when the cast is playing their characters from the show given how Philly-centric the series is. But a few of the stars are Philadelphia fans in real life, too. While It’s Always Sunny capitalized on the sports teams’ successes in the past, their real-life counterparts were pretty thrilled about it, too. Here’s who will be celebrating the Eagles’ return to Super Bowl 57.

Of all the many villains in Gotham City's menacing menagerie, the Penguin is one of the strangest. The character of Oswald Cobblepot, the stout and menacing crime lord with a penchant for penguins, has been portrayed by a handful of actors, including Burgess Meredith ("Batman" '66), Robin Lord Taylor ("Gotham"), and Wayne Knight ("Harley Quinn"), but the two most people think of as the Dark Knight villain are Danny DeVito and Colin Farrell. DeVito played the Penguin in Tim Burton's "Batman Returns" in 1992 and Farrell played the character in Matt Reeves's "The Batman" in 2022. With 30 years between the characters and two very different takes, it's really tough to tell which Penguin was truly the greatest.
In a Vanity Fair polygraph interview with his daughter, Lucy DeVito, to promote their animated series "Little Demon," Danny DeVito was asked which Penguin performance he thought was better, between him and Collin Farrell.

Chicago – The date of November 22nd, 1963, will always have meaning to certain generations of people as to the where-were-they-when-they-heard that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The City of Chicago was not immune to this event, and three odd connections became apparent as the news broke and in the subsequent associations that emerged afterward.
The facts of the assassination are these … President Kennedy was making a political swing through the State of Texas, on the cusp of the 1964 presidential election, a state which he barely won in his 1960 victory. The Dallas stop on the trip included a motorcade parade – in the presidential limousine were two Secret Service drivers, Kennedy, his wife Jackie, Texas Governor John Connally and his wife Nellie – through the downtown area before a scheduled speech at the Dallas Trade Mart. As the parade was ending at 12:30pm Central Time, shots rang out near...

This article contains spoilers for the Interview with the Vampire season 1 finale.
Interview with the Vampire has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2022 TV calendar. AMC‘s supremely atmospheric series uses Anne Rice‘s classic tome as a jumping off point to modernize the vampiric recollections of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) as he recounts his time with Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia (Bailey Bass), all the while maintaining the impeccable gothic vibes of its source.
Each and every one of Interview with the Vampire‘s seven episodes is absolutely dripping with macabre sensuality but the show outdoes itself with its seventh and final (for now) installment “The Thing Lay Still.” In season 1’s final hour Louis, Lestat, and Claudia’s pristine marble environs are finally stained with gallons upon gallons of blood, both literally and figuratively. The Mardis Gras ball at the...

It seems as though into every television watching generation, a series about a close-knit group of deranged friends with little regard for the world at large is born. In the 1990s, it was "Seinfeld." In the 2000s, it was "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." While "Seinfeld" closed up shop after nine seasons, amazingly, "It's Always Sunny" is a show that just keeps chugging along despite its incredibly humble origins (which include the original pilot being shot for a measly 200), to the point where it has, remarkably, become TV's longest-running sitcom.
And while the core cast of Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, and Kaitlin Olson carried the show through its first season, it wasn't until a seasoned sitcom legend came on board that things really started to take shape. And no, we're not talking about Frank Reynolds himself, Danny DeVito. While DeVito's casting in season 2 proved crucial to the series carrying on,...

After having huge success within a young adult franchise, many young actors try to distinguish themselves and make a clean break from their family-friendly roots. Just look at the careers of former "Twilight," "Hunger Games," and "Harry Potter" stars, like Josh Hutcherson, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Daniel Radcliffe. As they set out to do more serious adult work, many of them also embraced roles that were kind of weird. In Radcliffe's case, he grabbed onto the weirdest roles possible and never let go, and will soon star as one of the kings of weird in "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story," which debuts on Roku on November 4, 2022.
In the latest issue of Total Film magazine, Radcliffe opened up about his decision to chase truly unusual roles and why he's continued to tackle some of the biggest oddballs in all of TV and cinema. Like his fellow "Harry Potter" film alum Pattinson,...

Danny DeVito is nothing if not a good sport. His role as Frank Reynolds on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has led him to crawl naked out of a couch, paint himself blue, and do a multitude of other depraved activities in the pursuit of comedy. But even he has his limits. In a new interview with Uproxx to promote his Fxx animated series “Little Demon,” DeVito revealed the one time the show’s creators sent him a script that would have asked him to go too far.
“They once put me in a situation that was like, I was in jail being raped by various inmates and I was at the end of my rope,” DeVito said. “This was not recent. This was a while ago. Somewhere in the middle. And I got a script that my assistant said, ‘Oh, the guys, Charlie [Day] and Glenn [Howerton] and Rob [McElhenney] called up this morning.

This one might be titled "The Gang Almost Kills DeVito." The Gang at the center of the hit FX comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" -- Mac, Dennis, Charlie, Dee, and Frank -- have found themselves in all sorts of shenanigans over 15 seasons. Life imitated art during Season 11 of the show when Danny DeVito, who plays Paddy's Pub co-owner Frank Reynolds, almost drowned during a stunt. Charlie Day, who plays the oft-befuddled Charlie Kelly, revealed some surprising details about the accident that nearly killed DeVito during an interview on "Conan."

Jonathan Reynolds, a playwright and screenwriter whose string of film credits in the 1980s included the comedies Micki & Maude, Switching Channels, My Stepmother Is an Alien and the notorious flop Leonard Part 6, died Oct. 27 of organ failure at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, N.J. He was 79.
His death was announced by family to The New York Times.
A prolific Off Broadway playwright, Reynolds stage works included the acclaimed 1982 Hollywood satire Geniuses, produced by Playwrights Horizons and based on the journals Reynolds wrote during his three months on location in the Philippines to observe the infamously difficult filming of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now.
An intended book about the making of the film never made it to print, but his satirical play was a hit with both audiences and critics. And Reynolds would have an even more lasting connection to Apocalypse Now: He contributed, uncredited, a line of...

Tom Brokaw, the anchor who rose from an early stint at a station in Sioux City, Iowa to anchor three of the nation’s best-known TV-news programs – “Today,” “NBC Nightly News” and, for a short time, “Meet the Press,” is set to step down formally from NBC News, where he has worked since 1966.
Brokaw’s time on air has dwindled in recent years, while he has served as a special correspondent for the NBCUniversal-owned outlet, and also battled with cancer. He turned 80 in February.
“During one of the most complex and consequential eras in American history, a new generation of NBC News journalists, producers and technicians is providing America with timely, insightful and critically important information, 24/7. I could not be more proud of them,” said Brokaw, in a prepared statement. His longest tenure was at “NBC Nightly News,” which he led between 1982 and 2004.

Have you ever noticed that in most Danny DeVito movies, he is rarely the focus but usually the best part? The sad truth is that Danny DeVito’s brilliance is many times unrecognized, often lost in the shuffle and habitually taken for granted. Two separate generations will know him most for two iconic television roles; Louie De Palma on Taxi and as Frank Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Because of this, his abilities get lost within an image, a “DeVito” caricature. The result is an actor who is consistently great, always versatile, seldom overshadowed and frequently underrated. Worst dads on tv and film
Homer Simpson, “The Simpsons”
Homer Simpson is TV’s most famous dad but not exactly a role model. He may be good at heart but some of his favorite past times include drinking, laying on the couch, and strangling his son Bart whenever he gets out of line.
Daniel Plaineview, “There Will Be Blood”
Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) says it straight out, “he’s an oilman”; he puts family second behind his own greed. That becomes abundantly clear as his relationship deteriorates with his adopted son throughout the movie.
Al Bundy, “Married With Children”
Ed O’Neill was a very different kind of family man on “Married With Children” than he is now on “Modern Family.” Al’s cynical outlook on life has a hard time not having an effect on his kids.

Danny DeVito’s character Frank Reynolds on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has pulled some outrageous stunts over the years — but there’s one thing the actor won’t be doing any time soon.
“Well, they actually, they asked me to get ripped this year and I said ‘f— off,'” DeVito joked during the Fxx comedy’s panel Friday at the Television Critics Association’s summer 2018 press tour when asked if he ever said no to something the writers wanted him to do. “So uh, there have been very few things that I’ve said no to.”
Co-star and writer/executive producer on the show Charlie Day added, “Yeah, but you’ve been an incredible sport.”

Our latest round-up of genre DVDs and Blu-rays covers George A Romero, Damnation Alley and more...
With real life’s ridiculous news stories almost beyond parody, it seems fitting that 2017 was the year we saw George A. Romero, the master of satirical zombie tomfoolery, responsible for horror classics from Dawn Of The Dead through to Tales From The Dark Side, shuffle off this mortal coil. To commemorate three of Romero’s less celebrated early movies, Arrow Video has released the intriguing Between Night And Dawn set on Bluray, with ample extras to sate the most eager fanboy/girl.
First up, and by far the movie most will know (perhaps due to its 2010 remake), 1973's The Crazies plays out almost like a retread of Romero's 1968 debut Night Of The Living Dead, with a group of townsfolk again subject to a dodgy violence-inducing substance whilst military jackanapes try and control the epidemic.

Lucio Fulci, Frankenhooker and more in our round up of new horror Blu-rays and DVDs...
So, what’s your personal idea of hell? For this writer, it would almost certainly involve being chained down in the audience of an eternal live filming of Loose Women as Donald Trump waves a slice of tiger bread, forever just out of reach. Yours is likely to be similar, though it would have to be pretty grim indeed to come anywhere near Lucio Fulci’s 1981 career-best infernal vision and perhaps the definitive (obviously other than Little Nicky) cinematic depiction of eternal damnation, The Beyond.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" showed plenty of demented comedic potential in its first season, but the arrival of Danny DeVito in Season 2 was the special sauce that gave the show its bite. As erstwhile entrepreneur-turned-middle-aged slummer Frank Reynolds, DeVito epitomized the show's anarchic possibilities because he always looked a little out of place. While the original quartet shared the same age and rascally energy as they went about their aimless routine at Paddy's Pub, Frank invaded most scenarios like a gnome gone bad, his rampant hedonism guaranteeing that any given "It's Always Sunny" episode had the potential to careen into chaos. On January 6, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiered its 11th season, making it one of the longest-running sitcoms in cable history. Well-known for pushing the envelope with themes of race, guns, drug abuse, sexuality and violence, on Sunny the nihilism and vulgarity are complemented by pitch-perfect acting and some of the bravest, funniest writing on TV.
The Gang – twins Dennis and Dee Reynolds, childhood friends Ronald “Mac” McDonald and Charlie Kelly, and financier/father figure Frank Reynolds – manage a Philadelphia dive bar, Paddy’s Pub. They are joined by a robust supporting cast including the incestuous McPoyle family, an unnamed coffee shop waitress, Dee’s friend and Frank’s bang buddy Artemis, the Gang’s equally dysfunctional parents, and preacher-turned-street-urchin Rickety Cricket.
Members of the Gang have opened a sweat shop in the basement of Paddy’s, tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles, attempted group dating, hosted a game of Russian roulette,...
