Our Flag Means Death has officially “reached the end of the road,” Series creator David Jenkins has revealed on Instagram that the period comedy has failed to find a new home following its cancellation on Max in January after two seasons.
“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” Jenkins wrote. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc it seems there is no alternate home for our crew. Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”
Jenkins continued. “To you wonderful fans: thank you. You are lovely and earnest. Those kinds of things feel in short supply at times. But they aren’t.

Filming on “The Last of Us” Season 2 will soon be underway and the cast continues to grow this week with the addition of Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold).
Variety reports that Merced will play The Last of Us Part II video game character Dina in Season 2 of the HBO series, who was the girlfriend of Ellie in the video game sequel.
“Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable,” said series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. “You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”
Dina is described as “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.”

Max is not moving forward with a third season of its period comedy series Our Flag Means Death. Deadline understands that the first two seasons will not be removed from the streaming service.
From David Jenkins, Our Flag Means Death is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th-century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby). After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge.
Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas … they found love. Now, they have to survive it.
The series also stars Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane,...

HBO’s “The Last of Us” has excelled in many departments thus far, but the show’s casting deserves special mention. Bella Ramsey turned out to be the perfect Ellie despite fans wondering if she was the right fit for the role, for starters, and the outside-the-box casting continues for Season 2. Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You) will play Abby in Season 2!
Entertainment Weekly broke the news this afternoon, and they also shared a statement from “The Last of Us” creator Craig Mazin. “Our casting process for Season 2 has been identical to Season 1: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material,” Mazin tells Entertainment Weekly. “Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of our family.”

In any given year, British TV can be relied on to provide plenty in the way of crime drama, and 2023 was no different. Between these returning series and newcomers A Town Called Malice, Blue Lights, Marlow, Payback, Rebus, Steeltown Murders, The Gold, The Sixth Commandment, Wolf and more, crime continued to flourish on the small screen.
Happily though, that was far from all that UK TV offered this year. There was fantasy too, in the form of Netflix’s South London super-powers drama Supacell, ghost detective series Lockwood & Co., Greek and Roman mythology series Kaos, and sci-fi in Prime Video’s The Rig.
Add to all those the romances, dramas inspired by real-life, and several other book adaptations, period and otherwise plus music-based dramas Champion and This Town, and it was a pretty full slate.

As a former teaching colleague was very fond of saying: “You can’t make a pie out of sh*t”.
He was wrong and right. You can technically make all manner of things – up to and including pies – out of sh*t, but in the end, put any amount of sh*t in a pie and what you’ll end up with is a sh*t pie. Ingredients matter, is the point. Just ask Gordon Ramsay, or Minny Jackson from The Help.
The ingredients in the below movies and TV shows are the opposite of shit. They’re grade A, top drawer, high quality constituent parts… I really wish I hadn’t started this ‘shit’ thing. Does anybody else feel a bit queasy. And off pies?

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Episode 8 “Mermen.”] Our Flag Means Death bid one important member of the crew farewell in the Season 2 finale: Izzy Hands (Con O’Neill) died at the hands of pathetic pirate-wannabe Prince Ricky (Erroll Shand). Starting from a place of trauma and suffering, Izzy defies the odds to overcome his pain and embrace new possibilities as Season 2 unfolds. He learned some valuable lessons about himself along the way, and viewers were treated to several great moments with the character as his journey reached its sad, but fitting conclusion. As the SAG-AFTRA strike ran through Season 2’s run, actors were unable to promote the show, but that recently changed after the union struck a deal with AMPTP. Since the promotion ban was lifted, TV Insider has been fortunate enough to catch up with O’Neill to discuss Izzy’s surprising ending. Looking back on his run as the initially antagonistic ...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Our Flag Means Death Season 2 finale.] Our Flag Means Death Season 2 was filled with satisfying character arcs that set the beloved pirate rom-com up for an exciting potential Season 3. But one character’s ending has produced shockingly negative responses from some of the character’s avid fans on social media. I’m here to plant myself staunchly on the side of the writers and say I am an Our Flag Means Death Season 2 ending defender, and truly, it’s not even a bold stance to take. (Do not read the next sentence if you want to remain spoiler-free.) The death of Con O’Neill‘s Izzy Hands made complete narrative sense and was a moving, if tragic, ending for Blackbeard’s first mate. Izzy met his end in the Season 2 finale after being shot in the gut by Richard “Ricky” Banes (Errol Shand) as the crew of the Revenge and its...

HBO’s video game-based horror series “The Last of Us” kicked off with massive success this year, but when can you expect Season 2 to bring Ellie and Joel back to HBO?
HBO’s Casey Bloys announced during an event this morning that “The Last of Us” Season 2 is looking to begin production in early 2024, targeting a premiere sometime in 2025.
Of course, everything is a bit up in the air at the moment due to the recently resolved WGA strike and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. But this is HBO’s current plan, at least.
Season 2 is expected to adapt the second video game. Stay tuned for more.

Warning: This contains Major Spoilers for Our Flag Means Death season 2.
The tagline of Our Flag Means Death warned us to “prepare to have your ship wrecked”, but it didn’t prepare fans for the utter carnage and heartbreak of the season two finale.
While Blackbeard’s new career as a fisherman was thankfully short lived, he returned to discover the Republic of Pirates decimated by Prince Ricky and the navy, who had wiped out Zheng Yi Sao’s entire fleet, commandeered Spanish Jackie’s bar and imprisoned the crew of The Revenge ready for execution.
But no sooner had Stede (Rhys Darby) and Ed (Taika Waititi) got the swashbuckling romantic reunion of their dreams, and alongside Zheng Yi Sao come up with a perilous plan to defeat Prince Ricky’s naval fleet, we got the biggest plot gut punch of Our Flag Means Death yet: Blackbeard’s lovably foul-mouthed...

Warning: This contains Major Spoilers for Our Flag Means Death season 2.
It’s probably safe to say that most Our Flag Means Death fans expected that the stars of season one – Taika Waititi as Blackbeard and Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet – would remain the focus of season two. Oh, how surprisingly wrong we were.
Because, while Ed and Stede’s chaotic, high-octane and engrossing relationship is certainly still the main plot point of Our Flag Means Death on the face of it, as season two progresses we realize we’ve been hoodwinked: we thought we were watching the story of them finding each other again, but really we were watching Izzy Hands’ story all along.
We met Izzy as Blackbeard’s right-hand man and all-round bad boy in season one, and his character seemed hell-bent on keeping Blackbeard as merciless and ferocious a pirate captain as his reputation suggested, repeatedly...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Episodes 6 “Calypso’s Birthday” and 7 “Man on Fire.”] Our Flag Means Death‘s crew really knows how to party if the sixth episode from the Max original’s second season is any indication, with the Revenge’s pirates celebrating “Calypso’s Birthday.” While the installment marked a major milestone in co-captains Stede (Rhys Darby) and Ed’s (Taika Waititi) relationship, the episode also made way for iconic drag moments for Wee John (Kristian Nairn) and Izzy Hands (Con O’Neill). Episode 6 saw Stede and Blackbeard lean into their crew’s request to celebrate Calypso’s Birthday, which is essentially a made-up holiday for the pirate community. Unaware that they’re being hunted by another infamous pirate, Ned Low (Bronson Pinchot), the Revenge Crew goes all out, making a stop for decorations, booze, and more supplies. Blackbeard even tries to impart some advice to local youths, played...

David Jenkins, creator and showrunner of Max's pirate comedy "Our Flag Means Death," didn't know that episodes four and five would be released together at the same time when the show's creative team was first dreaming them up, but he tells Popsugar the pairing "makes sense" to him. "With a half-hour show particularly, the episodes can kind of build on each other in a nice way," he explains. And four and five do that really well since the relationship between Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard, aka Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) goes through some big changes during that time.
"Four is kind of them coming back together and talking again and even working through some of the issues and seeing a more f*cked up couple than them," Jenkins explains, referring to the relationship between Minnie Driver's Anne Bonny and Rachel House's...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Our Flag Means Death, Season 2 Episodes 4 “Fun and Games” and 5 “The Curse of the Seafaring Life.”] Our Flag Means Death continues to deliver heartwarming moments in its second season as crew members of the Revenge come to terms with their traumas. While not everything is resolved for the characters, one made a strong comeback from some really low moments as Izzy Hands (Con O’Neill) transformed into the Revenge’s own “Unicorn” courtesy of a new peg leg. Losing his limb following an infection caused by Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) shooting him, Izzy has been boozing, more irritable and emotional, as well as traumatized from his experiences, which reared its head in the fourth installment. Taking notice of his spiraling attitude, the rest of the Revenge crew decided he needed the most attention after storming their “safe space” gathering below deck with the ship’s unicorn legs in hand. When his makeshift peg leg ...

The crew of the Revenge set sail again this week — with a lot more expectant eyes on them than last time. "Our Flag Means Death," the charming pirate rom-com whose fervent fanbase seemed to grow exponentially during the show's off-season, has finally returned to Max for its second season, and so far, it's delivering on all fronts. The first three episodes include multiple death fake-outs (Lucius is back! Izzy isn't dead!), a few well-executed romantic reshuffles and character introductions, and a whole lot of the show's signature zany, sweet humor.
They also feature a lot of angst. The season 1 finale made it clear that Ed Teach (Taika Waititi), aka Blackbeard, was in a bad headspace post-breakup with Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), but throwing Lucius overboard and feeding Izzy his own toes proved to be just the beginning of his reign of lonely terror.

Warning: this contains Major Spoilers for Season Two of Our Flag Means Death.
Most shows would kill for the level of fandom that Max’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death has amassed in just its first season last year. The show’s big heart, proudly queer love stories, and superb ensemble cast (particularly leads Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi as Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard) were an instant hit, and its enthusiastic fanbase has waited impatiently for season two.
The first three episodes finally arrived on Max on Oct. 5, and judging from the social media meltdown, Our Flag Means Death’s fandom remains as wholesomely unhinged as ever when it comes to their favorite show.
Season one ended on quite the cliffhanger: after Stede got cold feet about running away with his beloved Ed, Blackbeard turned his resulting heartbreak into rage, marooning most of The Revenge’s crew on an island,...

The sitcom Our Flag Means Death has behaved in a very piratey way, quite frankly. When it burst onto the scene last year, it unexpectedly plundered fans’ hearts, leaving their new favorite ship – between Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet and Taika Waititi as Blackbeard – wrecked, and left us stranded on a cliffhanger of a finale desperate for a second series.
Thankfully, the treasure that is season two of Our Flag Means Death is released on Max on Oct. 5, and it’s as adorable as ever, with a whole crew of new characters to fall in love with:

Yo ho ho! The pirate comedy "Our Flag Means Death" is back for a second season, and we couldn't be more excited to catch up with Stede, Ed, and the rest of our favorite criminal misfits. The quirky show actually has more in common with real history than you might expect, with several characters loosely inspired (emphasis on the "loosely") by real-life pirates and miscreants. Sure, the real Stede and Ed probably didn't have a romance that was both devastating and adorable - but there's at least a kernel of truth to their portrayals on the show.
Is Stede Bonnet Based on a Real Person?
Yes! While Stede Bonnet (played by Rhys Darby) might not be a name most people know, he was, in fact, a real person. Born in 1688, he was a young landowner in Barbados who inherited his family's holdings at the age of six after his father died.

A pirate's life isn't all that it's cut out to be. On Sept. 14, HBO released the trailer for "Our Flag Means Death" season two, which finds our lovable band of chaotic pirates facing not just the perils of danger but also of love. When the Max series, starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi as pirates Stede Bonnet and Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), premiered in 2022, it roped fans in as a comedy stacked with famously funny actors - but it's the budding romance between the two pirate leads that made them stay. In season two, Stede is trying to win back Ed, while Ed is intent on killing him.
The series was originally renewed back in June 2022. David Jenkins, the show's creator, said in a statement at the time, "We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans' open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes...

The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.
The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.
In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

Stede insists he and Blackbeard are on a break, refuses to admit he dumped the handsome pirate, and is shocked when Blackbeard declares their status as “former” shipmates in the trailer for Max’s Our Flag Means Death season two. The two-minute trailer puts fans through the wringer as it teases a “will they or won’t they reunite” scenario for the upcoming season.
The eight-episode second season stars Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet, Taiki Waititi as Captain Blackbeard, Samson Kayo as Oluwande, Vico Ortiz as Jim, Ewen Bremner as Buttons, Joel Fry as Frenchie, Matthew Maher as Black Pete, Kristian Nairn as Wee John Feeney, Con O’Neill as Izzy Hands, David Fane as Fang, Samba Schutte as Roach, Nat Faxon as The Swede, and Leslie Jones as Spanish Jackie. Ready the cannons! Not only does season 2 of "Our Flag Means Death" actually exist, but a brand new trailer now exists to prove it to all the non-believers! Honestly, folks should have already been back on deck, as Max delivered a little teaser back in August as a morsel of a treat to hold fans over until the show's triumphant return. In fact, it almost felt as if "Ofmd" was going to be yet another casualty of David Zaslav's kink for obliterating the Warner Bros. Discovery (and Max streaming service) library to earn tax write-downs, but the fandom rallied and made sure to justify the cost of the reported 50 different sets necessary for season 2 to play out. All too often, pirate shows and movies take the swashbuckling life a little too seriously, but "Our Flag Means Death" keeps things action-packed while also remembering that most pirates were a bunch...

Masterpiece has revealed the premiere date and released a trailer for the upcoming miniseries, Nolly which stars Helena Bonham Carter as Noele “Nolly” Gordon, one of the most famous faces on British TV in the 1960s and ’70s.
Nolly played Meg Richardson in the hit ITV soap Crossroads before she was abruptly axed at the height of the show’s success. With the boss’ words “all good things must come to an end” ringing in her ears, Gordon found herself thrown out of the show that was her life for almost 20 years. Her firing was front-page news.
Nolly will premiere on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 9/8c on PBS. The series also stars Mark Gatiss and Con O’Neil.
The biopic comes from It’s A Sin creator Russell T Davies and is produced by ITV Studios-backed Quay Street Productions.

Max has released the first Our Flag Means Death season two teaser trailer, and all I can say is it’s about damned time there’s some official news on the upcoming season.

I've never been on a boat long enough to develop cabin fever. Still, I imagine it feels a little like having to wait several months for Warner Bros. Discovery to finally renew its surprise-hit queer pirate comedy series "Our Flag Means Death", and then having to wait another 14 months for hard evidence that season 2 is actually a thing that exists.
Thankfully, we can leave the passive aggression to 18th-century aristocratic high society for now, and instead take joy in knowing "Our Flag Means Death" is not only coming back for more hijinks and romance on the high seas, it's coming back soon. Picking up where season 1 left things, this new season will continue the love story of everyone's favorite pirate dads, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Edward "Ed" Teach/Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), as they -- hopefully! -- find their way back to one another after a series of unfortunate events...

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.
The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.
The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”
As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.
Watch the full teaser in the video above.

Max is hoping you’ll bust out the peg leg this Halloween. “Our Flag Means Death,” the streamer’s popular pirate comedy series, will return for Season 2 in October, the streamer announced Wednesday. The season will premiere on October 5, and Max also released a teaser to accompany the date announcement.
Created and showrun by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” is (extremely) loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, a real-life English landowner in Barbados who had a brief and largely disastrous run as a pirate captain in 1717. The show turns Stede’s (played by Rhys Darby) journey to piracy into a sitcom, as the idealistic and inexperienced captain struggles to gain the respect of the crew of his ship, The Revenge. His fortunes look up when he teams up with Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) — better known as the infamous Blackbeard — and the too soon develop an unexpected friendship that turns into love.

It turns out "Our Flag Means Death" didn't get lost at sea after all: Vanity Fair has just shared an exclusive first look at season 2, complete with casting information, first-look photos, and character tidbits about all our favorite pirates. Among the revelations? That cast newcomer Minnie Driver is set to play Anne Bonny, Ed "Blackbeard" Teach (Taika Waititi) will indeed have a bit of a beard this season, and perpetually angry first mate Izzy Hands (Con O'Neill) will be "enraged by unrequited love," as O'Neill put it.
All the new info comes courtesy of a set visit from December 2022, and while a firm release date hasn't yet been announced for the hit Max rom-com, there's still plenty here worth getting excited about. Fly on the wall? Pah! The wall is all the way over there! These days, viewers want to be flies buzzing right around the noses of the people making the headlines, close enough to tell what they had for breakfast. And thanks to true story TV dramas, they can.
It’s been a long time since ropey Lifetime Movies were as good as it got for true story TV. In recent years, British production companies have stepped up in a big way to serve a growing appetite for fact-based drama, but all too often the real-life TV dramas of today focus on haunting tales of history’s most gruesome murders. If you’re sick of serial killers, there are plenty of non-murder true stories to enjoy in drama form, from very public scandals to ordinary people doing extraordinary things, to the kinds of tragedies it’s important that we never forget.
