Within the Dragon Ball narrative, one of the most unique characters is Goku’s son, Gohan. He is probably the only Saiyan who hates fighting and wants to be a scholar. In many ways, he is the exact opposite of his father, who loves challenging strong opponents and testing out his own abilities against them. However, there is a reason for that.

Goku’s Saiyan lineage is one of the reasons why the protagonist of Dragon Ball is so overwhelmingly strong. The Saiyans are always looking for fights and battles and are training hard to become stronger. All of these are the defining traits of Goku and make them the perfect main character for Akira Toriyama’s magnum opus.

Goku’s Saiyan roots not only get him excited for battles but have also become a part of his identity. However, Toriyama initially had no interest in focusing on Goku’s origins. He rather wanted to focus on his upcoming journey. Goku’s origins were reflected in the story only because of Vegeta.
Additionally, he never even thought of Goku being an alien, which later became an important narrative of the story. Toriyama also talked about how he didn’t anticipate that the story would go on...

The main character from Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series, Goku, has been voiced by Masako Nozawa since the series began in 1989. To this day, she has been portraying the role of the Saiyan protagonist, and not only that, but she has also played the role of all the children of Goku and even his father, Bardock.

Mayumi Tanaka, the voice actor of Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, might have found the perfect replacement who can take over her role as Luffy. Tanaka has been voicing Luffy for almost thirty years, and she has done a great job portraying the character over the years.
Luffy in One Piece
However, as she is getting old and the series is still a little far away from the conclusion, the creators might have to find someone else who could do justice to the character of Luffy. This has also become a major concern for Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. Oda never imagined that the series would go on for so long.
In an interview, Oda talked about how Masako Nozawa, the character who voiced Dr. Kureha in One Piece, offered to take Tanaka’s role as Luffy’s voice actor in One Piece.

AkiraToriyama’s Dragon Ball series has achieved the status of one of the most iconic anime and manga series that has continued to capture its audience for several decades. The show continues to endure its popularity with compelling storytelling, well-written characters, and exploring timeless themes of friendship and perseverance. Update : Added the official English translation of Oda's note to the article. The article previously only highlighted the Japanese release. Eiichiro Oda will take a short break from releasing One Piece manga chapters for three weeks in April to undergo “maintenance” and "think about what One Piece actually is.” To ease worries, the manga creator noted that he’s not sick, and it is not directly in relation to the passing of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. Oda announced the break, which starts with issue 18 of Weekly Shonen Jump that releases on April 1 in Japan, through a handwritten letter on his staff Twitter account . One Piece is still scheduled to release in the upcoming Shonen Jump issue 17 on March 25 in Japan. Oda’s opening comments on the break: “Break Tiiime! Okay, so, I'm taking three weeks for myself. Yes, this is coming on the heels of the news about Toriyama-sensei.

It's not often that an artist defines a whole genre and/or medium, but the mangaka Akira Toriyama — creator of "Dragon Ball" — was one of those. Tragically, he's now left us; the official "Dragon Ball" Twitter account has confirmed that Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 68 due to an acute subdural hematoma. His family and loved ones have reportedly held a funeral service.
Born in 1955, Toriyama wanted to be an artist from a young age, inspired by works such as the Disney film "101 Dalmatians." He came into Weekly Shōnen Jump's good graces during his 20s after entering an art contest hosted by the magazine and, in 1980 at age 25, created his first hit manga: "Dr. Slump." After that series wrapped its four-year run, he started on "Dragon Ball."

“Do all of you remember the name Red Ribbon Army?” That’s the first of many lines of expository dialogue in “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero,” the latest animated action-fantasy adaptation-extension of the mega-popular “Dragon Ball” manga comics.
That opening line of voiceover narration also inadvertently prepares viewers for how convoluted the movie soon becomes.
Some tablesetting dialogue explains who the Red Ribbon Army are (bad guys) and why they’re back. The son of the Red Pharmaceutical Company’s founder, Magenta (voiced by Volcano Ota in the Japanese-language version and Charles Martinet in the English dub), wants to take over the world. But soon enough, this fairly straightforward beat-em-up spectacular, which pits heroic aliens against villainous robots, becomes a celebration of “Dragon Ball,” a decades-old anime institution.
