What began as a single segment titled “Love and the Television Set” on the anthology series “Love, American Style,” grew to become a top ten sitcom that lasted 11 seasons and defined “cool” for a generation. Set in 1950s Milwaukee, “Happy Days” debuted on January 15, 1974, and, although it was only a moderate success initially, became one of the most iconic TV series of its time.
Ron Howard was already a well-known TV star from his days as Opie Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show,” so it’s not surprising this series centered around his all-American teenage character Richie Cunningham and his middle-class family. In fact, Howard’s appearance in the “Love, American Style” episode led to his casting by George Lucas in the equally nostalgic “American Graffiti” in 1973 — the success of which prompted ABC to pick up “Happy Days.” But it was the character of greaser Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler...

Elvis Presley‘s music and style were heavily featured throughout the television series Happy Days. The series, which focused on the decades of the 1950s and 60s, was a throwback to simpler times. The music reflected the eras and included some of Presley’s greatest hits. However, as the series’ cast ended its 11-season run, one Presley song took on a different meaning as it closed the book on the lives of the Cunningham Family and their friends.

The final Happy Days episode wrapped up over a decade of stories surrounding Howard and Marion Cunningham (Tom Bosley and Marion Ross), their children Richie (Ron Howard) and Joanie (Erin Moran), and their friends.

During a 1980 appearance on Circus of the Stars, The Waltons actor Mary McDonough traded her conservative 1930s-style dresses for a leotard as she performed an aerial act with Happy Days star Scott Baio. But the high-flying stunt wasn’t an entirely pleasant experience for McDonough, she revealed in her 2011 memoir.

Circus of the Stars was a CBS variety show featuring celebrities performing circus acts. It debuted in 1977 and aired annually until 1994. McDonough – known for playing Erin Walton on The Waltons – was recruited to appear on the fifth edition of the show. She and Baio performed an aerial act called “Pirates in the Sky.”
For McDonough, who had a background in dance, the chance to do circus stunts on TV was a dream come true.

While it may not be a Friday, Tuesday the 13th does have a bit of a nice ring to it, too, which makes it a perfect day to add some great genre Blu-rays and DVDs to your home entertainment collections. Scream Factory is doing the (dark) lord’s work yet again this week with their Collector’s Edition of Vice Squad (which I cannot wait to check out) as well as their stunning Steelbooks for both Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World.
For those of you who enjoy “talkies” (a phrase we coined in our house for our favorite dialogue-heavy films), Radioland Murders arrives on Blu for the first time ever this week, and the third season of Riverdale hits both formats on Tuesday as well.
Other notable releases for August 13th include Avengers: Endgame, The Velocipastor (ahead of its Blu-ray release on September 17th), A Dark Place, Devil Music,...

A version of this story about Henry Winkler first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
When Henry Winkler’s agent told him he was on the short list for a part in an upcoming HBO comedy series from Bill Hader and Alec Berg, Winkler had an immediate response: “Is Dustin Hoffman also on the short list? ‘Cause if he is, I’m not going in.”
But Hoffman wasn’t, so Winkler showed up, “made Bill Hader smile and then laugh,” and landed the role of Gene Cousineau, an alternately brash and seductive acting teacher in “Barry.”
The acclaimed new comedy’s 13 nominations include Outstanding Comedy Series and acting nods for Hader and for Winkler, 42 years after he received the first of his three noms for the iconic role of Fonzie in “Happy Days.”

"Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don't you believe a word of it," Billy, the reverend known as America's Pastor, once said. "I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God." And when Billy passed away at age 99 on Feb. 21, rather than feeling sad, his daughter Ruth Graham, 67, exclusively echoed that sentiment to Closer Weekly. "This really is a glorious day. My father is finally free," she said. As many mourned his passing, plans were set in motion to lay Billy to rest on March 2 on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, Nc next to his beloved wife, Ruth Graham, who passed away in 2007. His coffin, "a simple plywood casket like my mother's," son Franklin Graham explained, "was built by convicted murderers at Angola Prison," where...

"Our bus driver went up to a house that had bikes on the porch — we knew there were kids. He knocked and said, 'I have some of the original Mouseketeers on my bus — can we come in and watch Annette with you?' And they went, 'Oh my!'" By the third season of The Mickey Mouse Club, Annette had become the most beloved girl in America. The Mickey Mouse Club cast. No awards show’s “In Memoriam” segment can include everyone lost in the last year, but this year’s Emmys contained some obvious omissions, including comedy icon and Civil Rights activist Dick Gregory, “Chappelle’s Show” star Charlie Murphy, Erin Moran and Harry Dean Stanton — who died Friday. Stanton is somewhat understandable, given how recently he died — there might not have been time to update the segment before the show. The same is true of “Sopranos” star Frank Vincent, who died last week. But many on Twitter were surprised and disappointed by the other omissions. Some drew a contrast between the omission.

A cult gem in its own right, 1981's Galaxy Of Terror also gave James Cameron his start in big-screen filmmaking...
In most respects, it's pure Roger Corman: low-budget, swiftly made, and loaded with gratuitous gore and bare flesh.
