- Married burlesque actress Anita Arden (Feb 1916 - May 1999) on May 7 1949. Arden appeared in musical revues mainly in New York but also toured with United Service Organizations (USO) in Europe during World War Two. She continued with USO after the war appearing, with amongst others, Gypsy Rose Lee. She also had an uncredited part in the film Malaga (1954) alongside her husband.
- Made his stage debut in 1928 in Salisbury with his first London appearance coming the following year.
- Had not acted since 1970 when he suffered a heart attack soon after finishing a BBC play, "Did Your Nanny Come from Bergen," a "Thirty Minute Theatre" production. (The Glasgow Herald, June 31 1973).
