"Nobody's been topside in 8 years!" Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for Broken Darkness, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller that originally premiered back in 2017. Years later and it's finally getting an official release. Broken Darkness follows the exciting story of Sam, a broken man who after the world ends from a massive meteor shower and the death of his son, is forced to survive underground. He ends up on the run with a crew of rag tag yet heavily armed rangers. Hunted down by mutated creatures, bandits and cannibals alike, their undeniable defiance to return to home is challenged, and an honest story emerges to reveal the heart of friendship in the face of death. A "tale of selflessness, friendship and courage." The film stars Sean Cameron Michael, Brandon Auret, Suraya Santos, and Brendan Murray. Looks like so many other post-apoc survival films, with mutant people and more. Doesn't look like there's anything new?...

An extraterrestrial picks a junkie to inhabit in this seedy, inconsistently acted but often sharply comic urban tale
This gleefully lurid, picaresque journey through a few days in Cape Town for an alien inhabiting the body of a skeevy junkie named Barry (Gary Green) won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But scattered among the gross-out scenes – involving violence or bodily fluids or both, the bouts of softcore shagging, and innumerable garish “trippy” bits where the protagonist and his acquaintances do drugs – there’s actually some reasonably sharply comic, surprisingly touching and straight-up well-acted moments.
Presumably, the key variables are the improvising performers that first-time director Ryan Kruger, fluffing up what was originally a short into feature length, collaborated with for each scene. Some, like Chanelle de Jager, who plays Barry’s longsuffering wife and is given to long profane rants in Afrikaans about Barry’s uselessness, have real...

I know of Ryan Kruger from some of his short film work things, such as 2014’s The Golden Rule and, of course, his 2017 short thing, Fried Barry. I was pleased as punch, you could say, when I heard about the feature length motion picture thing named, well… Fried Barry that would be hitting the screens in 2020. Kruger certainly has an eye for the absurd, but he is also able to adapt and write emotional view-points and tell stories with more than just skin. He can give some real flesh, muscle and blood to what he creates, so I was on board for this peculiar flick.

"Been a long time since I've taught all of you... Tonight's your final lesson." Samuel Goldwyn has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror thriller called Triggered, not to be confused with the other horror film titled Triggered from just last year (can't they choose a different name?!). This film involves a crazy Saw-meets-Hunger-Games-esque concept - nine friends, all harboring a dark secret, wake up in the woods after a night of partying to discover they all have suicide bombs strapped to their chests, with different times on their countdown clocks. They decide to work out how to disarm the bombs or find help - until they discover they can "take" someone else's time by killing them. Uh oh. The film stars Sean Cameron Michael, Liesl Ahlers, Reine Swart, Suraya Santos, Craig Urbani, and Steven John Ward. This is a wicked cool concept -...

"Where the hell have you been, Barry?" Rock Salt has released an early promo trailer for a totally insane indie horror comedy titled Fried Barry, made in South Africa by a British filmmaker making his feature directorial debut after numerous music videos. This premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival and is playing at tons of other genre festivals this year. "The movie that breaks all the rules." Fried Barry is a bizarre tale told in a genre-bending onslaught of sex, drugs and violence. A spectacle that pulls you in and won’t let go as every expectation is subverted in this boundary-pushing tale of alien abduction. An alien assumes control of a drug addict's body and takes it on a bizarre joyride through Cape Town. Starring Gary Green as Barry, plus Brett Williams, Joey Cramer, Sean Cameron Michael, Steve Wall, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Tamer Burjaq. Casting this super weird lookin'...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by one of the members of the cast. Director/writer: Christopher-Lee dos Santos Cast: Sean Cameron Michael, Suraya Santos, Brandon Auret, Jonathan Pienaar and Ryan Kruger. Broken Darkness is a post-apocalyptic title, from South Africa. Previously titled Last Broken Darkness, this film was shot by director Christopher-Lee dos Santos. Broken Darkness stars: Sean Cameron Michael ("Black Sails"), Brandon Auret (Elysium), Suraya Santos and Jonathan Pienaar. Much of the film takes place after a devastating meteorite strike; survivors must live below ground, or face the radiation and infection above. For the first hour, everything story-wise comes across well. Then, the tone shifts from a serious dramatic thriller to an overly sombre series of scenes. This shift, in tone, is a bit disconcerting. Also, somewhat reminiscent of Jeff Renfroe's The Colony (2013) and John Hillcoat's The Road (2009), Broken Darkness brings the.

"I would know if I was a replicant!" We're always on the lookout for good sci-fi short films. Tears In The Rain is an intriguing little short from South Africa that is clearly directly inspired by Blade Runner, set in the world of Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. This short was made on a budget of only $1500 which is crazy impressive, and it looks great. I wish there was more taking place outside on the streets, but it's still cool to see a well-made short film set in this world, and I can always appreciate some fascinating dialogue. This gets deep into the themes from the original novel about free will and whether or not our memories are real, and if we would know that we're a robot, or are just designed to think we're real. Original synopsis for the short: "In a dystopian Los Angeles future,...

WWE legend Chyna, real name Joanie Laurer, quite literally packed a punch – and her peers will never forget it.

He made her his star and his darkest obssesion. Simple as that! We have three new posters for HBO’s upcoming movie simply titled The Girl, which is set to air this month! So, consider this as a little reminder and don’t forget to check it out on October 20th, 2012. The movie will give us a darker look at Alfred Hitchcock‘s relationship with actress Tippi Hedren, and as you already know – Toby Jones and Sienna Miller will lead us through that weird obssesion!
In case you’re not so familiar with The Girl plot, I will remind you that everything starts in 1962, when the legendary director chose an unknown fashion model to star in his most ambitious film – The Birds.
But as he sculpted Tippi Hedren into the perfect Hitchcock blonde of his imagination, he became obsessed with the impossible dream of winning the real woman’s love.

Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock, Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren, The Girl The Girl is a BBC biopic about Alfred Hitchcock's Svengali-like relationship with Tippi Hedren, the star of the director's seminal The Birds (1963) and the box-office and critical flop Marnie (1964). Toby Jones, next to be seen in The Hunger Games and Snow White and the Huntsman, plays Hitchcock, while Stardust / Factory Girl's Sienna Miller (also known as one of dozens of phone-hacking victims of Rupert Murdoch's tabloid The News of the World) plays Hedren. According to the 82-year-old Hedren — a The Girl consultant, mother of Melanie Griffith, and avid supporter of animal welfare — her career went downhill after Marnie because of Hitchcock, who, Hedren claims, was spurned by her. Hedren told the Daily Mail that Hitchcock, who discovered her in the early '60s while she was between marriages, "wanted to possess me completely. There were...
