The late-night talk show host dedicated a message to his son, family, and everyone involved in Billy’s surgery.
“This weekend, our boy Billy had his third open heart surgery,” Kimmel shared on Instagram. “We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid.”
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host praised the team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where his son Billy was treated.

Jimmy Kimmel has revealed that his son Billy had his third (and hopefully last) open heart surgery over Memorial Day weekend.
“We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid,” the ABC late-night host wrote on Instagram Monday, captioning a photo of Billy smiling in what looks like a hospital bed.
Kimmel went on to praise the doctors, nurses and staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where Billy was treated.
“We hope you never need Chla, but if you do – know that they help families regardless of their ability to pay, thanks largely to the Affordable Care Act (another salute to the late Senator John McCain), generous donations from companies like Disney, which I am proud to work for and especially from generous people like you,” Kimmel wrote.

Donald Trump is reportedly annoyed with Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kari Lake’s frequent trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort and worries that she will be a liability for his re-election.
Trump is concerned that Lake will also blow the GOP’s chances of gaining a Senate seat in Arizona and drag him down in a critical state he needs to carry to win the presidency.
Melania Trump is also said to be upset with Lake’s frequent presence at Mar-a-Lago.
The Senate race to fill the seat being vacated by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona) is one of the most closely watched during the 2024 election, and Lake is expected to face Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona).
One of the problems Lake is facing is undoing the damage of her attack on John McCain’s followers, whom she degraded during her losing 2022 bid. She is also distrusted by GOP higher-ups in her state,...

Michael Douglas is in terrific form as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s new historical limited series “Franklin” but he isn’t the only actor to emerge with awards whispers whizzing through the air. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.
The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. The scenes between Douglas and Marsan are nothing short of spectacular and Marsan nails his performance as Adams, as noted by critics.
Clint Worthington (Roger Ebert) noted: “Marsan’s energy as Adams is decidedly different from Paul Giamatti’s in Ellis’ original 2008 miniseries—“Franklin” feels...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was appalled — appalled! — to learn in 2008 that Sarah Palin, then-gop nominee John McCain’s running mate, once had ties to the Alaskan Independence Party.
In a HuffPost op-ed titled “Alaskan Independence Party: The Last Refuge of a Scoundrel,” Kennedy excoriated Palin for continuing to “‘pal around’ with a man — her husband, actually — who only recently terminated his seven-year membership” with Aip. (Recently was a bit of a stretch: Todd Palin ended his affiliation with the party six years before Kennedy’s editorial was published.)

Plot: Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren’t over.
Review: The initial teaser released in 2023 showed that The Sympathizer would be something special. Featuring writing and direction from Park Chan-wook alongside writer Don McKellar and featuring Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr in five distinct roles, The Sympathizer is not only an adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel but a masterpiece of visual storytelling. A satirical blend of dark humor and visceral drama, The Sympathizer is unlike anything in recent memory. Producers of the upcoming musical comedy Ghost Of John McCain have responded to angry comments made by the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, saying that they will again extend an invitation to Meghan and husband Ben Domenech to attend a reading of the musical before it opens Off Broadway this fall.
“We think they will love it, just as audiences have to date,” said producers Jason Rose and Max Fose in a statement responding to tweets made by Meghan McCain earlier this week in which she called the musical – which she apparently has not seen – “trash” and “a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people.”

The talent behind the upcoming musical The Ghost of John McCain should not save a front row seat at its premiere for the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, as the former cohost of The View and outspoken pundit took to Twitter this week to denounce the forthcoming off-Broadway show, slam its producers and wish it has no success whatsoever.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the show is slated for a fall premiere at New York’s Soho Playhouse. The self-described “serious and satirical musical” was written by Scott Elmegreen with music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola, and its producers include political strategist Jason Rose and Max Fose, a former McCain campaign consultant.
“This is trash,” McCain wrote of the musical, adding that it’s, “Nothing more than a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people…I hope it bombs.”

Joe Lieberman, the former Connecticut senator and Al Gore’s Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000, has died. He was 82.
His family said in a statement that he died due to complications from a fall.
“Senator Lieberman’s love of God, his family and America endured throughout his life of service in the public interest,” his family said. His wife, Hadassah, and other family members were at his side when he died, according to the statement.
At the time of his death, Lieberman was leading an effort to recruit a candidate for the group No Labels, which has been seeking a “unity” ticket to run independently of the Democratic and Republican parties.
Lieberman held to the view that, even in a time of hyper polarization, there was a common ground to be found in politics. His own career reflected that, and even those who criticized his positions found him friendly, kind and polite.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not take kindly to Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-n.Y.) speech on the Senate floor last week where he called for Israel to hold elections once the current assault on Gaza winds down.
“What he said is totally inappropriate. It’s inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there,” the Israeli prime minister said in an interview on CNN’s State of the Union that aired Sunday.
“That’s for the Israeli people to decide. I think it’s ridiculous.

Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance in the Saturday Night Live cold open tonight, this time as a “concerned South Carolina voter” who asks questions of Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) at a CNN town hall.
The skit had Gayle King and Charles Barkley, hosts of CNN’s King Charles, moderating the town hall with the former president, with Johnson again playing Trump and with his propensity to sprinkle in political rhetoric with a pop culture stream of consciousness.
Haley, who has stepped up her attacks on Trump following the New Hampshire primary, drew loud applause from the SNL audience as she appeared in the town hall audience to ask him a question.
“Why won’t you debate Nikki Haley?” she asked Trump.
Johnson, as Trump, replied, “Oh my God! It’s her, the woman who was in charge of security on January 6th. It’s Pelosi.”

Political commentator Meghan McCain let loose on Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a conversation with her longtime friend and analyst Laurye Blackford, McCain discussed the Golden Globes and revealed that a friend had sent her videos of Harris’ “gaffes” to provide some entertainment. McCain specifically highlighted Harris’ 2022 speech about the passage of time, “She sounds like stoner, like a 19-year-old stoner in college who’s high at 3 a.m. She makes me so uncomfortable,” McCain said on her podcast. “I don’t like watching her. I don’t like listening to her.”
McCain didn’t stop there. She went on to describe Harris as “really unserious” and issued a warning to her listeners that she was about to make a controversial statement about the vice president.

Update with Meghan McCain statement: Meghan McCain says her family has not authorized a new, planned musical inspired by – and named after – her late father.
But considering that the in-development musical features fictionalized characters based on public figures, John McCain included, it’s unlikely producers need any such authorization. Deadline has reached out to a show spokesperson for comment.
In an exclusive statement to The Messenger, McCain said, “My family has not authorized it nor was aware of it. I was as surprised as everyone else to see the announcement.”
This morning, producers Quixote Productions and Max Fose announced an invitation-only industry reading later this week in New York of what they call a “provocative and zeitgeisty” new musical titled The Ghost of John McCain. The musical features a book by Scott Elmegreen and score by Drew Fornarola.

A super Pac with ties to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is lavishing money on some embarrassingly bad ads supporting President Joe Biden’s long-shot challenger, Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.). According to disclosures, We Deserve Better, launched last year, has spent $665,000 so far boosting Phillips, including $154,000 on TV ads.
Phillips, a late entry into the presidential race, is pouring his energy into New Hampshire, operating on the theory that a triumph in the first-in-the nation primary, where Biden will not appear on the ballot, could catapult his candidacy to national relevance.

McCain, a journalist, and daughter of John McCain, was a cohost on The View from 2017-2021.
She left after she had an on-air clash with cohost Joy Behar, which stemmed from Behar’s comments about not missing McCain while she was on maternity leave. McCain, who had recently given birth to her daughter, Liberty, as well as dealing with her father’s death at the time, thought it best for her and her family if she quit the show.

We all know that companies are doing whatever they can to reintroduce their most popular brands and IP to a younger audience. But we didn’t think the marketing would start at preschool.
In today’s Not-an-Onion-Article news, Disney is releasing an illustrated children’s book aimed at toddlers titled “A Is for Alien: An ABC Book,” based on Ridley Scott’s R-rated, 1979 horror classic “Alien.” You know, the one where a slimy alien monster bursts from someone’s chest cavity and a crew aboard a creaky, dark spaceship are picked off one by one in the pinnacle example of atmospheric terror.

Meghan McCain is taking shots at her former The View co-host Ana Navarro while defending herself from suggestions she uses her famous last name to gain influence.
On the most recent episode of her podcast Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat, the political commentator and the daughter of the late Senator John McCain flipped the table and claimed Navarro was the one banking on the McCain last name.
“I have a long history with Ana Navarro because she was dating a funder of my dad’s campaign and then joined the campaign, I guess. I have no memory of her ever working on my dad’s campaign, but she claims to,” McCain said of her history with Navarro. “No one has trafficked on the McCain last name and legacy more than Ana Navarro. Meghan McCain is most definitely not amused by a not-so-cryptic suggestion made today by The View co-host Ana Navarro that an (unnamed) former co-host used her famous last name for influence – and the daughter of the late Senator John McCain says she’ll be consulting her lawyers.
Navarro’s comment came during a Hot Topics discussion about Hunter Biden. “Joe Biden’s crime is being Hunter Biden’s father,” Navarro said. “Look, did Hunter Biden influence peddle on his last name? Yes, he did. So did half of Washington — people sitting at this table did it.”
When the other co-hosts expressed shock, Navarro said, “I’m not talking about currently.”
The comment prompted laughter and a loud response from the other co-hosts. “We just wanted to clear our names!” said Alyssa Farah Griffin, while Sara Haines said, “I was like, ‘Oh my God, do I have a claim to fame that I’m not using?...

The foreword of the book The Revivalist Manifesto, written by House Speaker Mike Johnson, has come under scrutiny, along with his subsequent promotion of the book on social media and his podcast.
Authored by local Louisiana political blogger Scott McKay, the book espouses baseless conspiracy theories embraced by the far-right, such as the debunked “Pizzagate” hoax which alleged Democratic officials’ involvement in a trafficking ring.
The book makes unsubstantiated claims, such as the implication that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts was blackmailed and connected to disgraced trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Additionally, the book defends podcaster Joe Rogan from racism charges after it was revealed that he used racial slurs. It goes on to disparage poor voters.
Johnson’s 300-word foreword praises McKay’s book as a valuable contribution that resonates with “freedom-loving Americans.”

Her death was announced to The New York Times by her father, the entertainment lawyer Hal Friedman.
Friedman joined the cast of Life Goes On in 1992, portraying Amanda Swanson, a college student with Down syndrome who dates, and later elopes with, the show’s main character Charles “Corky” Thatcher (Chris Burke), who also has Down syndrome. Donald Trump was in Iowa on Saturday for two campaign stops, the first in Ankeny, followed by another in Cedar Rapids. And his obsession with the 2020 election continues to be a subject he seems to think is crucial as he campaigns to win the Republican presidential nomination, despite his position that he won being debunked time and again.
During his “Commit to Caucus” speech in Ankeny, Trump went over similar tropes he’s been touting throughout his campaign, calling media “fake news” and reiterating his false claim that the 2020 election...

On Tuesday, approximately 300,000 people gathered in Washington, D.C., to show their support for Israel in an ongoing war that has claimed the lives of thousands of people. The lineup of speakers at the March for Israel included Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Jewish-American celebrities like Debra Messing and Tovah Feldshuh, as well as rabbis and cantors.
It also included an evangelical Christian pastor from Texas, infamous for his fire-and-brimstone prophecies about the end of the world. “Israel, you are not alone,” John Hagee proclaimed in his San Antonio twang.

Political commentator Meghan McCain has opened up about a heated situation with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson following the death of her father, Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), in 2018.
On a new episode of her Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat podcast, McCain accused Carlson of getting angry with her for criticizing political consultant Roger Stone after he tweeted that her father would “burn in hell for all eternity” in 2017.
McCain then responded to Stone via Twitter, now X.
“I tweeted something like, ‘Burn in hell’ or ‘Go to hell, Roger Stone,’ and I felt good about it, and I stand by that tweet,” McCain explained.
Shortly after, McCain was at a party in London and received a text from Carlson, which she paraphrased during the podcast episode.
“[He said], ‘What you said about Roger Stone is so gross and so disgusting, he’s a good man,’ or something like that,” she said.

“The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth” will conclude with its eighth season, Showtime announced on Tuesday. The series finale episode is scheduled to arrive on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Et/Pt.
Hosted by John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, and Jennifer Palmieri, the four-time Emmy nominated political docuseries offered viewers a deeper look at the nation’s biggest political stories inside the beltway from Donald Trump’s unexpected presidential victory and his contentious time in office, to the polarizing politics of the pandemic, the 2020 election and ensuing insurrection on Capitol Hill, as well as Biden’s presidency at a time of international turmoil.

Dean Phillips — liquor heir, gelato prince, step-grandson of the advice columnist Dear Abby, and Democratic congressman from Minnesota — is challenging Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination for president. Phillips filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday night.
Phillips will officially announce in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday, which is the deadline to appear on the primary ballot in the state. To call his candidacy a longshot is an understatement, but Phillips has a good shot of winning the Democratic primary in New Hampshire — because Biden will not appear on the ballot.

In a series of episodes punctuated by both humor and pointed critiques, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has waded deeply into the quagmire of Trump’s recent legal troubles. Not only did Kimmel shed light on these developments with comedic flair, but he also delivered scathing observations on the former president’s conduct.
Gagging Trump, or The Gag Order Chronicles
Former President Donald Trump found himself under a partial gag order following allegations surrounding his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Judge Tanya Chutkan issued the directive to prevent Trump from publicly attacking those involved in the federal case, such as court staff members, specific prosecutors, and witnesses. This move was particularly noteworthy given Trump’s penchant for public commentary and his history of animosity against those he perceives as adversaries.
Kimmel, ever the satirist, didn’t miss a beat. Questioning the extent of the order, he mused, “I don’t know...

Updated, with comment from Ramaswamy’s campaign: Eminem wants Vivek Ramaswamy to lose “Lose Yourself” and other rap works from his campaign’s playlist.

In the wake of TV producer Bill Geddie’s death, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg has opened up about what has kept her on the daytime talk show for the past 16 years.
During the ABC series’ tribute to its late executive producer, Goldberg revealed that she first met Barbara Walters and her longtime producer once when the two were driving through Malibu for the series, “Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People.” Soon after, Goldberg, Walters and Geddie became friends. It’s through that friendship that the co-creators of “The View” first offered Goldberg her current hosting gig.
“I said, ‘Yeah, I need a job.’ You know? It’s nice when people offer you work. I was like, ‘Yes I’ll come.’ And here I be,” Goldberg said. “I remain out of respect to the show, and out of respect to the two of them who gave me a shot when no one else would.

Since the NBC comedy Cheers lasted 11 seasons, you could always check in with the regulars. John Ratzenberger played Cliff Clavin on all 11 seasons of the show. Cheers ended in 1993 and Ratzenberger hasn’t stopped working since. Showbiz Cheat Sheet is here to catch you up and tell you where to find him now.

Cliff was in all but one or two episodes of Cheers. He was not a character in the original pilot and Ratzenberger was initially hired as a guest star before they made him a regular.
The story goes that Ratzenberger actually auditioned for the role of Norm. Sensing he was wrong for the part and the audition went badly, Ratzenberger pitched creators Glen and Les Charles on “a bar know-it-all.” They agreed and his first episodes proved Cliff was a vital part of the Cheers gang.

"The Simpsons" is one of the most beloved TV shows of all time, and for good reason. Fans have delighted in the antics of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and the rest of Springfield's kooky residents since 1989. But the real strength of the series isn't the characters, but its ability to poke fun at a wide swath of topics without discrimination. Whether you're talking about politics, sports, history, pop culture, or social issues, "The Simpsons" has probably tackled it.
Because of the vast number of its targets, sometimes things that happen on "The Simpsons" later occur in real life. Some of these predictions fall well within the realm of possibility, such as when the episode "Elementary School Musical" depicted prominent economist Bengt R. Holmstrom as a Nobel Prize recipient, only for Holmstrom to win the award six years later. For this list, however, let's look at some of the more...

As McCain explains in her column, Ozempic has been prescribed to people with diabetes to help control blood sugar. More recently, it’s made headlines for its weight loss effect.
“I understand some people legitimately struggle with obesity and need Ozempic. But I am not one of those people. Which is why I have been really astonished by how many, from casual friends to industry acquaintances, have brought it up with me,” McCain writes. “I’m told ‘everyone is doing it,’ as if that was ever a compelling case. I hear ‘just take the shot’, as it has become known in shorthand. I was even offered a black-market freebie by someone with ‘extra shots at home.

Dominion submitted a bombshell legal filing on Thursday revealing that most of the Fox News hosts who pushed the Big Lie knew it was total bullshit, as well as the internal strife over how to cover the election Donald Trump has clearly lost.
Tucker Carlson was particularly incensed, the filing reveals. “Sidney Powell is lying by the way. I caught her. It’s insane,” he texted fellow host Laura Ingraham on Nov.
