Let’s not beat around the bush; Marvel’s going through something right now. The superhero studio’s recent output has simply exhausted both casual and hardcore fans alike.
The sentiment appears to be close to universal too: amidst the avalanche of MCU content, there have been too few hits and too many misses. The fact that Bob Iger, Disney’s Chief Executive Officer, has publicly said that they’re going to change strategy and “slowly decrease volume” tells you everything you need to know.
So how does Marvel proceed from here? MCU mastermind Kevin Feige is seemingly planning to course-correct by re-assembling the Avengers sooner rather than later. Next year alone will see the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade, followed a few months later by a new Avengers—previously subtitled “The Kang Dynasty,” though that’s reportedly been abandoned.
It’s a sensible play.

Lionsgate has added three movies to its release calendar.
“Flight Risk,” an aviation thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson, will land on Oct. 18, 2024, while Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” will debut on Sept. 13, 2024. Meanwhile, Gerard Butler’s sequel “Den of Thieves: Pantera” will open on Jan. 10, 2025.
“Flight Risk” is scheduled to debut on the big screen alongside Paramount’s “Smile 2.” In “Flight Risk,” Wahlberg plays a balding and psychotic mob hitman who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant (Topher Grace) out of a remote area. Netflix seemingly heard everyone’s prayers a while ago and is now bombing its viewers with more movies and shows that come straight from the 2000s.
With all the excitement that old rom coms receive on the streaming now, no matter how bad they turned out to be back in the day, some big flops from the previous years have all chances to be brought to light once again. This week marks Netflix’s several new arrivals, including a 2006 fantasy rom com starring James McAvoy.
Some young viewers may not quite believe this, but McAvoy, now mostly renowned thanks to his pretty sinister roles in Split and It Chapter Two, was a big romantic back in the 2000s. The actor starred in the Keira Knightley-led war drama Atonement in 2007, but before that he got one of the main roles in a much more unserious comedy movie Penelope.

Exclusive: Following the success of her most recent Sony pic Anyone But You, the studio isn’t wasting any time staying in the Sydney Sweeney business as sources tell Deadline Jane and Honey Goldman are in negotiations to pen a new Barbarella pic starring Sweeney with Edgar Wright In Talks to direct. The film is still in development given Sweeney’s busy schedule and Wright deep in prep on his The Running Man reboot with Glen Powell starring, so the project will not be next up for either talent.
Even with it being in development, the Goldman being brought on to pen clearly shows the studio is not messing around in getting the film right as they see this as big franchise for all parties. Jane Goldman has helped launch such successful franchises like the rebooted X-Men movies starring James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as well as Matthew Vaughn’s The Kingsmen: Secret Service.

In the vast world of action movies, few genres are as popular and captivating as superspy/assassin flicks that follow highly-trained professionals on a mission. There’s something special about the atmosphere of distrust, political scheming, and ridiculously high stakes that comes with this subgenre, and the audience is all over it.

It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Hollywood star Patrick Stewart famously portrayed Professor X in the original X-Men franchise alongside a stellar ensemble cast. However, when the 2011 film First Class rebooted the series as a prequel, a fresh cast was introduced, with James McAvoy stepping into the role of Charles Xavier. And the now-83-year-old actor graciously supported McAvoy taking on the role of Professor X.

James McAvoy knew just what needed to be done to make his mark in the X-Men franchise as Professor X after Patrick Stewart’s unforgettable performances.
The best thing about bringing comic book characters to life is that they are not limited to just one actor. Over time, many actors have replaced each other in order to bring our favorite superheroes to life. However, sometimes a person is so perfect for a role that you cannot ever imagine someone else in their shoes. The best example to support this statement is Patrick Stewart and his run as Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X.

The actor has become synonymous with the role, having played him in several X-Men films, except X-Men: First Class. In this film, James McAvoy took over the responsibility of playing a younger Professor X.

The actor has become synonymous with the role, having played him in several X-Men films, except X-Men: First Class. In this film, James McAvoy took over the responsibility of playing a younger Professor X.

Sixteen years after working together on Wanted, director Timur Bekmambetov and actor Chris Pratt are re-teaming for a sci-fi thriller called Mercy, which just started filming this week – and Bekmambetov has celebrated the start of filming by sharing a picture from the set! Keira Knightley & James McAvoy Once Opened Up Their Atonement Love Scene. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Keira Knightley is one of those actresses who fits perfectly in a period film; her filmography is significant proof of that. She has given outstanding performances in her movies, and the actress selected one of her best intimate scenes on screen. It was with James McAvoy in their film, Atonement. But the X-Men: First Class actor had a different opinion about their passionate lovemaking scene.
The 2007 romance drama was based on Ian McEwan’s novel of the same name. It featured McAvoy and Knightley in lead roles. Saoirse Ronan played an integral part in the movie that was directed by Joe Wright. The film was nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress for Ronan. James McAvoy (Split) dives back into the horror genre with Speak No Evil, Blumhouse’s English language remake of the critically acclaimed 2022 Danish film Gæsterne. The two-minute trailer shows a married couple immediately regretting their decision to visit old friends while on vacation.
The cast includes Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate) and SAG award-winner Scoot McNairy (Argo) as Louise and Ben Dalton, the couple who chose the wrong place to spend their vacation. Alix West Lefler (The Good Nurse) plays their 11-year-old daughter, Agnes. Aisling Franciosi (Game of Thrones) stars as Paddy’s (McAvoy) wife, Ciara, and newcomer Dan Hough plays their mute son, Ant.
“When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare,” reads Blumhouse’s synopsis.

James McAvoy is rare among this new young breed of actors, as he has the ability to shift between offering heartbreaking sensitivity (“Atonement”) to displaying some serious action chops (“Atomic Blonde” and “Wanted”). The ability to toggle between these two attributes in such films as “The Last King of Scotland,” “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and as the young Professor X in several films in the “X-Men” series that has made him internationally one of the most in-demand actors in the world.
Not only is McAvoy versatile in the kind of projects he selects, but he delivers, having earned two BAFTA nominations for his performances in “The Last King of Scotland” and “Atonement,” and a Golden Globe nom for “Atonement” as well.
Let’s raise up a glass to that great Scot with our photo gallery, which ranks his 10 greatest film performances from worst to best.

We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

Under $5 million; no first time directors (unless there’s a named producer); actually good. These used to be the tenets by which Blumhouse built its name. But oh how things have changed. It’s looking increasingly like the little studio that could is making a land grab for virtually every property in horror-dom.
The latest trailer to drop from Blumhouse is for Speak No Evil, a remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name which caused a big buzz when it hit Shudder for being so utterly and depressingly grim. Blumhouse snapped it up and cast James McAvoy, star of Blumhouse movies Split and Glass, as the central psycho. James Waktins who made similarly nasty and misanthropic horror Eden Lake has directed and the film is set to release in September. James McAvoy may have a murderous intent in the new trailer for Speak No Evil, a horror film based on 2022 Danish hit Gæsterne. James McAvoy leads the cast in the upcoming remake of the Danish psychological horror Speak No Evil, due for release later this year.
In cinemas, horror in 2024 has taken a little time to grind into gear. The first couple of the months didn’t offer too much for fans of the genre, with Imaginary and Night Swim failing to set the box office alight (even if the latter possessed a certain charm and had Stephen King happily cheerleading it).
Still, the last month saw a double dose of fun nun horror in the form of Immaculate and The First Omen and now it finally feels like we’re up and running, even if in the US, audience numbers for the usually reliable genre are said to be down. This year still has the likes of Abigail, Smile 2 and MaXXXine to come, not to mention the release of Speak No Evil in September.

Since Barbarian put the fear of weirdness into us all about AirBnBs, what are we to do for holiday ideas? Surely agreeing to stay with the seemingly charming couple you met while travelling is a good idea, right? If new horror movie Speak No Evil is to be believed… absolutely not. The Woman In Black's James Watkins is the writer/director here, with Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis (Halt And Catch Fire reunion klaxon!) as Americans Louise and Ben Dalton, holidaying with daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler). Paddy invites them to stay at his and Ciara's house, and Louise and Ben eagerly accept. But after they arrive at the isolated, definitely not-creepy-at-all farmhouse, things soon turn a lot darker. Robert Eggers’ upcoming remake of F.W. Murnau’s silent classic Nosferatu is one of the more highly anticipated horror movies of the year, and the lucky folks at CinemaCon got a look at an exclusive first look at the chilling production.
The first look at Nosferatu was suitably terrifying with a heavy gothic tone. Classic-looking tall, dark castles, scurrying rats, blood gushing from necks, and full-on bleak horror. The footage included looks at Lily-Rose Depp (The Idol) and Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) but sadly only featured quick glimpses of Count Orlock himself. Perhaps that’s for the best, but I can’t wait to see Bill Skarsgard (Boy Kills World) disappear into the character.

"What is wrong with you?!" Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have revealed the first official trailer the unsettling horror remake Speak No Evil, a Hollywood take on the Danish horror film Speak No Evil from 2022. This takes the same disturbing plot and spins in a bit, though it does stick fairly closely to the other film. Two families meet while on holiday, and one invites the other to their country estate. After they arrive at an idyllic English country house, it morphs from a dream vacation into a psychological nightmare when Paddy takes over. This new Speak No Evil movie stars Mackenzie Davis & Scoot McNairy as American couple Louise & Ben Dalton, who, along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler), accept a weekend holiday invitation of Paddy (James McAvoy), and his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), and their furtive, mute son Ant (newcomer Dan Hough). Damn this looks crazy intense and terrifying!

CinemaCon attendees Wednesday got a first look at Focus Features’ second film with Robert Eggers, Nosferatu, a dark and gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her which causes untold horror in its wake.
Introducing the footage, Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said, “This ain’t your father’s Nosferatu” and promised it will give “new meaning to the term Christmas feast when we open on December 25.”
In the footage, we see the terror and hysteria rampant in the village as various townsfolk shriek, “He is coming” after the young woman calls to him seemingly in a nighttime trance. “My dreams grow darker,” she says, and asks Willem Dafoe’s Professor Von Franz, “Does evil come from within us, or from beyond?”
