The tale begins with a crime that left everyone baffled. In July 1976, a school bus carrying 26 children (and one driver) was hijacked in the sleepy Central California town of Chowchilla. The kidnap victims were taken to two vans, driven to an abandoned rock quarry, led off the bus, and essentially buried alive in an underground compartment full of mattresses. Things like that just didn’t happen in a town like this.
Seventies California was loaded with bad juju, from the Zodiac Killer to the Patty Hearst kidnapping to Jim Jones.

Fourth-generation Louisiana shrimper Doug Blanchard went to work for Bp driving his "vessel of opportunity" through oil and dispersant -- until he went to the hospital with dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms. So why is Blanchard hoping to get back in it as soon as his doctor lets him?
Douglas Blanchard is captain of the "Big Tattoo." He's a fourth-generation shrimper who learned the trade from his father (who died of cancer this year). It's all he'd ever done before Bp's Deep Horizon well started spewing crude into the Gulf waters where he made his livelihood. Now he's paid by Bp to scout for oil slicks drive through it, and help call in other boats to skim it with booms.
But after driving through oil seemingly treated with dispersant, he got sick. When we talked to Blanchard, he was eagerly awaiting a doctor to clear him to go back to work.

For Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of the tourist season along the Gulf of Mexico, Fast Company visited Grand Isle, La., where oil from the gushing Bp well in the Gulf of Mexico made landfall.

In the late afternoon March 30, on the eve of Memorial Day, the traditional kickoff to the Gulf Coast tourist season, Grand Isle, La., mayor David Camardelle ordered the beaches partially open. They'd been completely shut down at the start of the holiday weekend. Residents and visitors were allowed to walk along a portion of the shore but couldn't actually go close to the water, where Bp temporary workers and enlisted men and women built berms and blockades and cleaned up crude that had already washed up -- the result of the Bp oil leak still gushing into the gulf, the biggest leak in U.S. history.

We here at Quick Stop Entertainment are true lovers of music, in all its forms. We’re also quite keen on the spirit of competition, and of spurring creativity through said competition.
To that end, we launched a unique form of creative combat here at the Stop.
In this age of manufactured and painfully earnest talent contests, we’ve decided to instead shine a light on the quirky, quixotic underworld of musicians that don’t get nearly the attention they deserve.
Ah, but I did mention that there was a competition involved…
Like a songwriting version of Iron Chef, the competitors will be presented with a very specific songwriting challenge. They’ll be given one week to complete their songs - however they see fit, within the parameters set forth - after which time the entries will be uploaded to Quick Stop to be voted on by you, the audience.
