A memorable six-episode event, The Veil took viewers through the icy mountains and lively city streets, avoiding gunfire and hijacking big-rig trucks.
What started as a simple reconnaissance mission to obtain necessary information turned into a life-and-death mission to find the truth by examining the past.
Imogen and Adilah were two women with very different backgrounds who found kindred spirits and an unlikely bond in one another.
Even though their adventure together had its ups and downs, the roughest parts came during the series finale.
With only six episodes, it's a wonder the miniseries packed so much in, but we will do our best to unpack the ending of this dramatic thriller series.
A Forced Finale of Terrorists' Terrible Timing and Intelligence Nowhere in Sight
The main issue during The Veil's first and currently only season was the threat of an explosive on board a boat headed to an American port.

Welp. The finale for The Veil has come with more questions and gone without answering a single one of them.
It was clear from the beginning that Imogen and Adilah were set for a rocky fate, but The Veil Season 1 Episode 6 ensured an ending that would change both women's lives.
Truthfully, this one left quite a bit to be desired as far as series finales go. The six-episode series set up a plot that required far more episodes and possibly another season.
With so much buildup and excitement generated by the series' promos and trailers, the show delivered a lackluster amount of action.
This last episode, in particular, was lacking quite a bit, not just in action but also in dialogue.
Compared to the rest of the season, the characters spent more time walking around empty spaces contemplating than they did actually speaking or doing anything.

It’s always a little harder to start a work week after a holiday weekend. But one of the best things about the rise of on-demand streaming is that TV seasonality is essentially a thing of the past. There’s almost always something new to watch on streaming services, be it a new reality series or a blockbuster movie that just left theaters.
If you’re dreading the return to work on Thursday, check out my list of new titles coming to a streamer near you this week. Hopefully, you’ll find something awesome to fight the Monday scaries, or to look forward to as your short week goes ahead!

Loved-up Brits and their long-distance partners have a limited time to see if it’s the real deal or if they’ve made a big mistake and should call the whole thing off.

The story behind the making of Palestinian-Danish director Mahdi Fleifel’s second feature, To a Land Unknown, is probably as intriguing as the film itself. Shot on the fly in Greece, with production beginning exactly a month after the Hamas attacks of October 7th, the movie was somehow completed in time to premiere at Cannes just over six months later.
That may be something of a record in terms of delivering a feature, but it also speaks to the precarious and volatile situation the film is depicting: that of Palestinian refugees stuck in Athens en route to someplace else, caught in a purgatory between a home they can’t return to and a new one they don’t know.
For best friends Chatila (Mahmood Bakri) and Reda (Aram Sabbah), the heroes of Fleifel’s melancholic, shaggy-dog street movie, that purgatory has been going on for some time. When we first see the two 20somethings,...

The brilliant Palestinian-Danish documentarian Mahdi Fleifel (“A World Not Ours”) leaps successfully into fiction with a feature debut that borrows a narrative container from “Midnight Cowboy” and a tormented soul that is all Palestinian.
The film opens with a quote from the celebrated Palestinian scholar, Edward Said: “In a way, it’s a sort of fate of Palestinians not to end up where they started, but somewhere unexpected and far away.” These words have been cutting since the moment they were first spoken years ago, but released into the world now during the horrific genocide in Gaza, they have an extra, desperate bite, as another generation is forced to seek displacement as the only alternative to violent death. Premiering at Cannes in this climate, Fleifel’s portrait of two individual characters asks questions that cannot be confined to the screen. Where do you belong after you have been driven from your homeland?...

The tragic predicament of the Palestinians and what they’re now being subjected to begs to be analyzed and dissected, with various areas of dubious historical consensus put to new scrutiny; in Mahdi Fleifel’s fiction debut To a Land Unknown, we’re solely in a disorienting present tense, where there’s seldom time to think and reflect, only to agitate for survival.
The director himself was raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, a background echoed in the film’s key characters, before he settled in Denmark and studied in the UK; thus, he’s never lived under direct contact with the Israeli occupation. Acclaimed docs followed, most notably I Signed the Petition, a 10-minute short that went semi-viral, concerning the calls to boycott Radiohead’s 2017 concert in Tel Aviv. The tension and stakes have indeed been turned up to max volume in The Veil Season 1 Episode 5.
It took about five episodes to get there, but audiences are finally feeling things come to a head in the latest episode.
Any hope for Imogen and Adilah's budding friendship is just about dashed without the episode starting with Adilah taking off while Imogen slept.
We can't blame her, though. Things took a turn for the very real and dangerous at the end of The Veil Season 1 Episode 4 when the women came under fire after Imogen found Adilah and Emir chit-chatting.
It wasn't clear who exactly was doing the shooting as it could've easily been either the French or American intelligence agencies.
Since neither tried to apprehend Imogen or Adilah at the women's apartment, it's safe to say the assailants are likely terrorists or at least terrorist associates.
As if things weren't dire enough with Adilah sneaking out,...

Zayn Malik said this week he regrets not taking time to appreciate his time with boy band One Direction, adding that he’s “able to be happier now.”
“The main thing that I always feel bad about when I look back over my life is not enjoying the band enough,” Malik said on the Zach Sang Show. “I feel like I just took things too seriously, you know? I’m grateful that I’m able to be happier now. I can actually enjoy things and own my own perspective a bit, you know? Like, glass half full versus it being half empty. That’s my choice.”
Malik shocked the world when he departed the mega-popular British boy band in 2015. A year later, the group — which also included Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — went on an indefinite hiatus.

As Imogen Salter would say, "The best lies are mostly true," and that couldn't ring anymore accurately in The Veil Season 1 Episode 3.
Having finally made it to Paris, Adilah is reunited with her daughter. However, the smiles and hugs are short-lived as Imogen is still determined to prove her travel companion is the high-ranking Isis commander that everyone believes Adilah to be.
Though viewers are meant to question Adilah's actions and everything she says, Imogen continues to show that she has just as many, if not more, secrets.
Perhaps these two women have found kindred spirits in each other, but their bond seems tenuous at best since neither trusts the other beyond what they need from one another.
Malik: So, what is this woman like?
Imogen: There's something intangible about her. Can't name.
Malik: Sounds like someone I know.

"The Queen of Peak TV" strikes again.
Suffice it to say, beginning with The Veil Season 1 Episode 1, this series premiere was a tour de force in acting, writing, and dialogue.
Elisabeth Moss's streak of delivering must-see TV is at an all-time high with this thriller series. There is almost no doing justice to how incredibly crafted this story is.
Even with the bar set to stratospheric, The Veil exceeded expectations by introducing audiences to the presence that is Imogen Salter.
Tomas: Everything will be completed once we get to Berlin and you have been invaluable.
Imogen: Thank you, Tomas. I don't think you'll feel the same in a moment when Interpol arrives, though.

In the new FX drama The Veil, a colleague of British spy Imogen Salter pleads with her to change strategy on a new undercover assignment. “Please don’t speak to the real me,” she replies. “It is extremely unhelpful.”
The Veil repeatedly tries to figure out where the line exists between this persona and the real her, whose name isn’t even Imogen. The problem is that the version of the series about “Imogen” is vastly more entertaining, but the show mostly seems interested in her true identity.

Nathan Zellner and David Zellner’s Sasquatch Sunset is stomping into circa 850 theaters this weekend after debuting in 9 with a solid opening for a film many could find weird. A tribe of Sasquatch, possibly the last of their kind, live and love in the woods of northern California, where it was shot.
“We are taking Bigfoot to America. We have high hopes that the broader market will embrace the movie,” says Kyle Davies of distributor Bleecker Street, calling it “a very different” kind of movie and “a bit of an unknown.”
“It’s a wildcard.”
Marketing was mainly through social activations. “I wouldn’t call it traditional marketing. It doesn’t really fit in that box,” Davies adds. The Sasquatch standees in theaters are fun. And Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar is displaying a baby Sasquatch sitting in a glass case with umbilical cord and placenta.
This is “a polarizing film.

Chicago – There was once a Chicago housing project called Cabrini Green, and its legacy was a damning testament to Chicago’s mismanagement of housing for the poor in general. It’s gone now, the victim of gentrification, but its memory lives on in “We Grown Now,” a new release from writer and director Minhal Baig.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The film is set in 1992, rightly called the beginning of the end for the massive high-rise Chicago Housing Authority complex. Malik and Eric (Blake Cameron James and Gian Knight Ramirez) are best friends and neighbors at Cabrini, idling between school and imaginative play. Malik’s mother Dolores (Jurnee Smolett) and his grandmother Anita (S. Epatha Merkerson) keep body and soul together for their family, along with Eric’s father Jason (Lil Rei Howery). When a fellow child 7-year-old resident Dantrell Davis is killed in a gang related shooting, Dolores takes steps to move out,...

From its very first shot, Minhal Baig’s masterful We Grown Now grabs you. A still shot of an empty hallway beckons you to discover it, to let the many lives it houses drift through you. We hear scraping. We hear sneakers squeaking.

Set in and around Chicago’s Cabrini-Green housing complex in 1992, writer-director Minhal Baig’s We Grown Now follows best friends Malik (Blake Cameron James) and Eric (Gian Knight Ramirez), who were born and raised in the low-income housing project most people associate with its high crime and poverty rates. For the two boys, though, Cabrini-Green is neither abhorrent nor an aberration, but rather a self-contained world containing all their hopes and dreams, and which they leave only to walk to elementary school.
Told primarily from Malik’s point of view, the film delicately captures both the wonder and tunnel vision of adolescence, particularly through its depiction of the built-in defense mechanism that is his imagination. In the opening scene, Malik and Eric take an old mattress from an abandoned apartment and, after realizing the elevator is broken, drag it down several flights of stairs and outside, where they use it...

That sounds like a delightful evening! Ed Sheeran and Armaan Malik enjoying dinner together and dancing to “Butta Bomma” must have been quite a sight. It’s always wonderful to see artists from different backgrounds coming together and enjoying each other’s company. Their collaboration on “2step” must have paved the way for a strong bond between them. It’s great to hear that they’re not only colleagues but also friends who can appreciate each other’s music and culture.

Actors Simone Ashley and Mo Gilligan sat down along with director Chris Jenkins to share some insights from their experience acting in the Sundance film 10 Lives, in their new uInterview.
10 Lives is an animated comedy that presents the charming tale of Beckett, an indulged feline character (voiced by Gilligan). When Beckett throws away his ninth life, he undergoes a transformative journey, both physically and emotionally, and ultimately discovers profound lessons about the power of love, accompanied by Rose (voiced by Ashley), a kind-hearted student who wants to save the bee population.
The voice actors reflected on the difference in approach to a voice role versus a live-action one.
“It’s so different than my work doing live-action because you’re forced to use your imagination in a much more heightened way, especially when it’s bringing a relationship with an animal to life,” Ashley told uInterview founder Erik Meers.
