Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he is backing the former naval pilot Aaron Dimmock as a primary opponent against his nemesis, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida).
Gaetz is one of the eight Republicans responsible for his being ousted as House speaker.
“Gaetz is the Hunter Biden of the Republican Party,” the ex-House Speaker stated during an interview with Politico. “He’s got an opponent who is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, trained at Pensacola, went to the Naval Academy and flew jets to defend us while Gaetz was getting kicked out of high school, buying coke and paying minors for sex.”
McCarthy was speaking about the House Ethics Committee investigation, which began in 2021, over allegation the Florida representative had breached sex trafficking laws and had relations with a 17-year-old girl.
Gaetz replied to McCarthy’s support of the ex-naval aviator on the platform X.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy praised GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for being a “very serious legislator” despite her remarks about replacing House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade noted in an interview with McCarthy that Greene is hoping to oust Johnson, much like Rep. Matt Gaetz deposed him on October 3, 2023.
“Now what she’s doing is much different than what Matt Gaetz is doing – did,” the former House speaker stated. “She didn’t make it privileged, so it’s not up for a vote.”
“And the one thing I’ve always found about Marjorie is she’s a very serious legislator that deals with policy,” he added.
“And the best way to deal with anyone like that is to sit down and talk to them,” he continued. “I don’t believe the speaker has spoken to Marjorie. I think if you sit down and discuss, you understand you have Congress,...

Missed Tuesday’s late-night monologues? We’ve got you covered with our round-up of the night’s best laughs from across the dial.
Trump Gags
After repeatedly attacking the daughter of the New York judge presiding over his criminal fraud case, Loren Merchan, the judge extended an existing gag order prohibiting the Republican from publicly sending his red-hatted cultists after the families of Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump naturally took only a few hours to post yet another attack against Merchan’s daughter, in the form of a retweet of Fox News sycophant Brian Kilmeade’s baseless accusations on Fox & Friends.
With the presumptive GOP presidential nominee openly flouting every supposed safeguard against everything from witness tampering to thuggish, Mob-style intimidation, late-night hosts on Tuesday were quick to mock both the loose-lipped Trump and the system that appears satisfied with wagging an ineffectual finger in his direction with each successive,...

Updated, with Trump reaction: A New York judge on Monday expanded his gag order on Donald Trump, restricting the former president from attacking the family members of those involved in his upcoming criminal trial.
Trump is now prohibited from attacking Judge Juan Merchan’s family members or those of District Attorney Alvin Bragg. That’s added to restrictions that restrict Trump’s comments on witnesses, as well as court staff and other prosecutors and their families. Trump also is restricted in commenting on jurors or prospective jurors.
Earlier today, Bragg’s office had called on Merchan to clarify the gag order, after Trump has continuously attacked the judge’s daughter by name and posted an article featuring her picture.
Trump’s legal team said that Trump was arguing that the judge should be recused in the case. Trump has argued that the judge’s daughter is biased against him.

They don’t call it Super Tuesday for nothing. Fifteen states and one territory are holding their primaries on Tuesday, and 854 Republican delegates are up for grabs. Donald Trump is cleaning up so far, and it looks like he’ll walk away from the election cycle’s largest single-day primary dump with the nomination all-but secured.
Trump will win the nomination once he secures 1,215 delegates, and for his sole opponent Nikki Haley, the math ain’t’ mathin’. Trump is a whisper away from finally making a rematch with President Biden...

Donald Trump is hoping to win big on Super Tuesday, and he kicked off the primary’s most vote-rich day with one of his favorite traditions from his time as president: calling in to Fox News to deliver an unhinged rant.
The former president called Fox & Friends on Tuesday morning, where he celebrated Monday’s Supreme Court decision barring states from removing him from the ballot, doubled down on his claims that migrants are “poisoning our country,” and declared that Israel has to “finish the problem” in Gaza.

Update: There’s a reason that attacks on Taylor Swift continued throughout the day today: She’s a celebrity guaranteed to drive web traffic, particularly to right-wing media figures advancing ever more outlandish conspiracy theories. For much of today, social media focused on figures like Jack Posobiec and Benny Johnson, who benefit from the attention even if it’s to try to discredit them.
While a Swift endorsement of Joe Biden may very well hold enough sway to be of concern to Donald Trump’s campaign, the fixation on cooking up conspiracy theories about her has more to do with what draws attention in a hyper-competitive universe of voices on the right.
Erick Erickson, the conservative commentator, wrote on X/Twitter, “Let me explain what is actually going on with these hucksters, charlatans, and grifters on the right. They don’t believe it. They hope you might believe it. They...

Donald Trump accused immigrants of “destroying the blood of our country” during a campaign rally in Iowa Tuesday, repeating hateful rhetoric echoing white supremacists and genocidal Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

Donald Trump in recent weeks has appeared to forget who the current occupant of the White House is, naming Barack Obama as president rather than Joe Biden. But if you ask Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade, it’s all part of Trump’s plan.

President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign poked fun at Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, who identified the current president as Barack Obama during an interview this week.
Trump appeared on the Fox News Radio program, The Brian Kilmeade Show, where he confused the names of the current and former Democratic presidents.
“It’s all coming through Iran, and Obama doesn’t want to talk about it,” Trump told host Brian Kilmeade. “He doesn’t even mention them in his statements. It’s all coming through Iran.”
Kilmeade attempted to correct Trump, asking if he was talking about President Biden. Trump refused to admit his mistake.
“You know, Obama and Biden. But Obama is Biden’s boss. Guess you didn’t really know that.”
The Biden-Harris HQ X account, formerly Twitter, was quick to repost the clip from the interview.
“Trump once again confuses who is currently President, forcing Kilmeade to correct him.

The son of one of Hamas’ cofounders, Mosab Hassan Yousef, joined “Fox & Friends” on Thursday and suggested that Israel should “explore using gas” to rid underground tunnels in Gaza of Hamas militants.
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade spoke to Yousef, who is seeking asylum in the U.S., after renouncing the terror organization, on Thursday. Kilmeade had no response or follow-up question after Yousef’s mention of gas, which would conceivably break international laws that make the use of chemical weapons a war crime.
Kilmeade, in a segment you can watch at the top of this post, first asked Yousef how Israel should proceed with a ground operation, which is expected in the near future.
Yousef first said that “we need to evacuate civilians,” from Gaza, “as much as we can.”

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade was caught on a hot mic calling a congressman a “dumbass” for voting for Kevin McCarthy during Tuesday’s Speaker vote, and Seth Meyers got a pretty big kick out of that on Wednesday night, pointing out some irony.
As part of his “Closer Look” segment, Meyers once again roasted Republicans for not being able to decide on a House Speaker, calling up footage of GOP politicians publicly shaming their own party. But then, he pulled up a clip of Kilmeade — or rather, Kilmeade’s voice — shaming Rep. Don Bacon specifically.
The footage is of the live vote in the House but, as Bacon is called on to give his vote, Kilmeade is clearly heard saying “dumbass” after the congressman doesn’t say Jim Jordan’s name.
“Do you know how bad things are for you when Brian Kilmeade is calling you a dumbass?” Meyers mocked with a laugh.

The network announced on Thursday that Levin’s program “Life, Liberty & Levin” would expand to an additional night per week, taking over Kilmeade’s slot on Saturday at 8 p.m. Et. This lineup change will become official on Sept. 16.
According to journalist Marisa Kabas, Kilmeade sent the message by mistake to a different Suzanne, who he used to work with.

Fox News kicked off a marketing campaign for its new primetime lineup, touting the four conservative hosts helming the weekday evenings as “the right voices at the right time.”
The promo, released Monday by cable news network, introduces Laura Ingraham as the “No. 1 female host on cable news.” Moving from her 10 p.m. timeslot to kick off the evening at 7 p.m., Ingraham cements her place in the pack by saying “real Americans need to be heard.” Next up is Jesse Watters at 8 p.m., who declares that “we cover the stories nobody else will.”
Sean Hannity, who remains in the 9 p.m. hour holds down the appeal of tradition to viewers as he states “I believe in faith, family, and the USA,” while Greg Gutfeld, who closes out the night at 10 p.m., joked that his show is “this close to actual entertainment.” The network applauded Hannity as the...

Fox News’ lineup changes will shift two familiar faces, Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld, to primetime — a move that is bound to secure a ratings bump while ushering in a new brand of extremism that media experts warn could be a “liability” for the network in the wake of the Dominion Voting Systems settlement.
Announced just over two months after Tucker Carlson’s abrupt departure, Watters has effectively been crowned his successor after taking over the 8 p.m. timeslot, which had been occupied by “Fox News Tonight” since Carlson’s absence.
“Crowning odious Jesse Watters as the new face of Fox News is a reflection of Fox’s dogged commitment to bigotry and deceit as well as an indication of their desperation to regain audience share,” said Angelo Carusone, president of...

With his relationship with Fox News apparently souring, Geraldo Rivera is thinking about retirement, and said he will announce his next career move in a week on Twitter and “The Five,” the show he will exit next week.
Rivera posted on Twitter Friday that he had spoken to Brian Kilmeade on his Wabc radio show and said, “I am unsure about my next career move & will announce next Friday here on Twitter & Live on @TheFive whether I stay with Fox or do something else, with your support.”
The correspondent for the conservative news network, who was recruited by founder Roger Ailes in 2001, said June 30 will be his last appearance on the talk show.
While the post generated a few inevitable references to his ill-fated 1986 live excavation of Al Capone’s vault, most of the comments were positive.
Some followers suggested that the social media platform may be all the veteran journalist needs.

Update: Geraldo Rivera said that he will announce next week whether he will stay with Fox News or move on to something else.
Rivera announced earlier this week that he was leaving a regular gig on Fox News’ The Five, but that he was still a correspondent at large for the network.
On Twitter, Rivera wrote on Friday that he was “unsure about my next career move.” He previously said that his contract runs through 2025. Rivera spoke to Brian Kilmeade for his Wabc radio show. Kilmeade is a co-host of Fox News’ Fox & Friends.
Rivera has been among the rotating panelists filling the so-called liberal seat on The Five, which is the top rated show on cable news. He said that his final appearances on the show will be on June 29 and 30.

Fox News has stated the network’s controversial chyron this week, referring to President Joe Biden as a “wannabe dictator” which aired as part of its primetime broadcast on Tuesday, June 13. “The chyron was taken down immediately and was addressed,” a spokesperson for Fox News said in a statement to CNN. The network has also reportedly “taken steps to address the situation internally,” according to the rep. No further details have been given. On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump was arrested and pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts related to the handling of classified documents. Fox News then aired Trump’s speech following his arraignment, while other networks (such as CNN and MSNBC) did not. The aforementioned chyron, which read in full, “Wannabe Dictator Speaks at the White House After Having His Political Rival Arrested,” appeared on the screen alongside a split of President Biden and Trump. Update, with comment from White House: Fox News has responded to the attention its coverage of former President Donald Trump’s speech got last night, when a chyron called President Joe Biden a “wannabe dictator.”

In her first episode of Pride month, Jen Psaki zeroed in Sunday on the number of boycotts and the wider social media blowback companies from Target to Kohl’s to Bud Light to the Los Angeles Dodgers are facing for their public support of the LGBTQ community.

Fox News is shaking up its primetime lineup … on the weekends, at least.
The cable news channel says that it will launch a new lineup beginning this weekend, with some shows switching timeslots, and one program, The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton, ending its run on the channel.
Hilton has hosted The Next Revolution Sundays at 9 p.m. since 2017. Fox News says that he will remain with the channel as a contributor, and is stepping back “to focus on his new California non-partisan policy organization launching next week.”
Former Congressman Trey Gowdy, who has hosted Fox’s 7 p.m. hour on Sundays with Sunday Night in America, will take Hilton’s 9 p.m. timeslot.
At 7 p.m. Fox News will launch The Big Weekend Show, which will feature “a rotation of network hosts and contributors discussing the news of the day” on Saturdays and Sundays.

Update: Fox News issued another statement to address potential changes to its primetime schedule, this time on the status of Laura Ingraham.
A network spokesperson said, “Reports based on various tweets by left wing activists are wildly inaccurate — Laura Ingraham, the top-rated woman in cable news, is now and will continue to be a prominent host and integral part of the Fox News lineup.”
The latest Fox News statement does not address whether she will remain in her 10 p.m. Et time period, but the network statement is a pushback on social media rumors that she is exiting.
The speculation about Ingraham started after the Drudge Report, in its main headline, reported that Fox News was about to overhaul its primetime line up, with Hannity leading the 8 p.m. hour and shows hosted by Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld taking the later slots. That left the question of what would happen to Ingraham.

After Tucker, a deluge of speculation.
Fox News Channel is considering “multiple scenarios” for its primetime lineup after the ouster of Tucker Carlson, with the network declining to comment on a recent report that veteran Sean Hannity might move into its primetime lead-off hour at 8 p.m.
“No decision has been made on a new primetime line-up and there are multiple scenarios under consideration,” Fox News said in a statement Wednesday. While the jury stopped short of ruling the attack was rape, they did find that Trump was liable for sexual battery against Carroll and had later defamed her after she came forward.

Brian Kilmeade stepped in Monday as the slot’s first guest anchor, and ratings since then have continued to plummet, which Kelly pointed out in her Friday SiriusXM show.

Abby Grossberg, the Fox News producer suing her former employer over claims she was pressured to provide misleading testimony in the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit, has spilled more details about the emotional toll of working for Tucker Carlson.
In an interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” Grossberg revealed that the “antisemitism and the bullying and the gaslighting and the misogyny” of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” eventually let to her calling a crisis hotline.
“I was in tears, beside myself, talking to my best friend on the phone, whom I’ve known for 20 years, somebody who would never describe me as an anxious person, a sad person, a depressed person. Veteran CNN anchor Dana Bash scold at the Los Angeles Times for referring to her as John King’s “ex wife,” in a story about her replacing him on “Inside Politics,” while he takes on a new role at the cable news network. In response, the LA Times changed the headline, and Bash thanked the paper.
“Hey @latimes – yes John and I used to be married,” Bash said. “We are now friends and share a wonderful son together. In this context I am not an “ex wife,” I am a veteran journalist with decades of experience who worked hard for this role. Do better please.”
Once corrected, Bash replied to her original tweet and said, “Thank you @latimes.”
On Thursday, CNN announced Bash will take over “Inside Politics.” Currently, she doubles as a chief political correspondent and a co-host of the Sunday program “State of the Union.”
