Multi-territory Asian streaming service Viu has publicly disclosed key performance metrics for the first time and said that it was cash flow positive on an annual basis in 2022.
The company, which operates in 16 Asian and Middle East markets and is seen as a rare success story in regional streaming, counts Hong Kong conglomerate Pccw as its principal shareholder, which also unveiled its own profits and loss figures for the 2022 calendar year.
Viu which operates both ad-supported and paying tiers, said that it had 66.4 monthly active users in 2022, an increase of 13% year-on-year. Paying subscribers increased by 45% to 12.2 million over the same period.
The company’s revenue, a mix of subscriptions, advertising sales and content licensing, also grew by 45% year on year to $206 million in 2022. The company said that it achieved positive Ebitda in the year, a key indicator that the company is viable, but did not disclose the figure.

Sorry, The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 6, I'm still not a fan of Burke.
Not that her lost love reason for hating on Isaac was the point here, but I wanted to get that out of the way. Not buying into the play for sympathy, and the character is still all sorts of annoying.
In other news, Scott Grimes shows once again that he's so much more than a funny face as Malloy revisits his The Orville Season 2 Episode 11 love by basically living out his own Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 5 Episode 25, "Inner Light," plotline.
Compared to other offerings this season, there's something about the set-up for this adventure that feels more contrived than usual.
Setting aside the fact that the quantum accelerator is called the Aronov Device when that was what it was called in the alternate timeline, not the prime timeline where Dr. Janice Lee invented it,...

The Motion Picture Association’s anti-piracy organization, Ace, is boosting its global impact by partnering with local entertainment companies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Hong Kong-based video streaming platform Viu and Thailand’s leading cable satellite TV provider True Visions have both joined the coalition to help combat entertainment piracy in their home markets and around the world. The MPA and Ace say the addition of major local operators as partners — of which more are planned in the coming months — will play a pivotal role in enhancing anti-piracy enforcement actions on the ground.
Ace, also known as the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, was founded in 2017 by the MPA and a collection of the world’s leading media and technology companies with a mission to combine efforts and resources to jointly combat the prevalence of online piracy.
