Jussie Smollett is nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his work on “Empire,” but it’s still unknown if he will attend the upcoming festivities on Saturday at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
Anthony Anderson, who returns as host for the sixth consecutive year, hopes the actor will make an appearance.
“I hope to see him here,” the “Black-ish” star told Variety during a preview of the Awards on Wednesday morning. “I hope he wins. I’m happy for him that the system worked for him in his favor because the system isn’t always fair, especially for people of color.”
“So I’m glad it worked out for him,” Anderson continued. “It’s not my place or any other person’s place to judge him or what not, but I’m glad the he’s nominated…I hope he wins because I’d be interested to hear his speech.

"Lee Daniels' The Butler" has been cleaning up at the box office, and it's probably gonna snag a few Oscar noms this season. Perhaps its most impressive feat -- besides getting Oprah back on the big screen after far too long -- is making President Obama cry. Just a little. Sure, it's had plenty of moviegoers wondering if someone's been slicing onions nearby, but to make the leader of the United States tear up? That's an honor.

President Barack Obama has revealed that he "teared up" when he watched new movie Lee Daniels' The Butler.
The film stars Forest Whitaker as White House butler Cecil Gaines, who is based on long-serving steward Eugene Allen.
Speaking on Tom Joyner and Sybil Wilkes's radio show, Obama explained that the movie provoked an emotional reaction in him.
"I did see The Butler, and I did tear up," Us Weekly quotes him as saying. "And yet, with dignity and tenacity, they got up and worked every single day, and put up with a whole lot of mess because they hoped for something better for their kids.

Though years have passed since their 2005 divorce, Steve Harvey's ex-wife Mary has recently come forward to slam him in a series of YouTube videos and an appearance on the Tom Joyner Morning Show on Monday morning.
Mary says that Steve's infidelity still troubles her. "The reason I've been silent this entire time is because I did take into consideration what it would do to both of our families and our community," she tells Joyner. "But keeping quiet hasn't served me physically. It hasn't served our son. I have suffered physically because of it. I'm not in good health right now."
Mary alleges that Steve was unfaithful and that his current wife, Marjorie Bridges, was his mistress.
Not only a comedian and host, Steve has written several relationship books, including "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," and Mary believes that he owes an apology to women who have...

As we reported several weeks ago, comedian Doug Williams, who is the co-creator and Executive Producer and former Host of the Martin Lawrence 1st Amendment Show on Starz, stepped aside as the Host of the show as it begins filming its fifth season.
At that same time, our sources disclosed that the show’s producers were thinking about replacing Williams with a new female host that would bring a different flavor to the show. Today we found out what that flavor is as our sources have told us that the New host of the show is comedian Sheryl Underwood!
Underwood, a former host of Bet’s Comic View and current radio personality of the Tom Joyner Morning Show and The FOXXhole, is not unfamiliar to hosting and is expected to bring a different spin to the show.

Columbia, S.C. — South Carolina pardoned syndicated radio host Tom Joyner's great-uncles Wednesday, nearly a century after they were sent to the electric chair for the 1913 murder of a Confederate Army veteran.Officials believe the two men are the first in the state to be posthumously pardoned in a capital murder case.Black landowners Thomas and Meeks Griffin were executed 94 years ago after a jury convicted them of killing 73-year-old John Lewis, a wealthy white veteran living in Blackstock, a Chester County town 40 miles north of Columbia. Two other black men were also put to death for the crime."This won't bring them back, but this will bring closure. I hope now that they rest in peace," Joyner said. "This is a good day."Joyner, who lives in Dallas, and his attorney made a presentation to the state parole and pardon...

Comedian Gary Owen has inked a holding deal with Tyler Perry's company to star in a possible spinoff of Perry's hit sitcom "House of Payne."
On "Payne," Owen recurs as Zach, one of the barbers in the barbershop featured in the series, which airs in syndication and on TBS.
Owen's stint on "Payne" stems from a chance meeting with Perry last year on radio's "The Tom Joyner Morning Show."
In addition to the pact with Perry, Owen recently teamed with Martin Lawrence for a single-camera interracial family show based on Owen's comedy. That project has been set up at Starz.
Owen, the only white man to host Bet's "ComicView," has appeared in such films as "Daddy Day Care" and "Little Man."
He is repped by Icm and managed by Lisa Suzanne Blum and Coral Compagnoni of Modus Entertainment.

Now that 2008 has drawn to a close, Back Stage thought it might be fun --- and illuminating --- to look back at all those New Year's resolutions actors made at the start of last year. Did they do what they vowed, or did their best-laid plans get waylaid? Did they fulfill their goals, or were those "auld acquaintances" soon forgot and never brought to mind? Growing Your CareerChioma Nwosu resolved, at the start of 2008, to make inroads into the voiceover market, and she's happy to report she scored a hit. "Since January, I've been on The Tom Joyner Morning Show's radio drama It's Your World," she says. Nwosu also achieved her second goal for the year: to appear on a television series as a guest or co-star. When we spoke, she'd just returned from six days of filming in Argentina for the new series Estate of Panic and couldn't wait...
