Opening with an abortive hero’s narration, a flurry of neon, and defenestration via harpoon, writer/director Macon Blair’s re-imagination of Lloyd Kaufman’s legendary shoestring superhero spoof is an energetic good time that nevertheless proves why Mainstream and Tromaville are worlds apart.
Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) radiates put-upon single dad energy as Winston Gooze, a nobody janitor who struggles to keep his moody teenaged stepson (Jacob Tremblay) happy when he’s not mopping up toxic waste for Bth – an irresponsible corporate behemoth with its tentacles in everything from private insurance to banking to “proprietary, cutting edge, bio-boosters” for the health/beauty conscious consumer. When he’s diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, Winston crashes a benefit for Bth overlord Bob Garbinger (Kevin Bacon) in a bid to beg him for the means to beat his disease. Lloyd Kaufman’s 1984 horror-comedy “The Toxic Avenger” is, in its own trashy way, a classic. Classic enough to spawn its own mini-franchise, at least, as well as prop up the fortunes of Kaufman’s company, Troma Entertainment, for multiple decades. And you don’t mess with the classics, which is why it’s just as well that writer-director Macon Blair throws it all out but the toxic waste in his new reboot.
Compared to Kaufman’s proud juvenilia, the point of view in this rebooted “Toxic Avenger” is downright mature. Peter Dinklage stars as Winston, a janitor at a sinister corporation called BT Healthstyle in the town of St. Roma’s Village and a single stepfather to sensitive preteen Wade (Jacob Tremblay). Wade’s mother died of cancer a few years earlier, and Winston dutifully cares for her son while getting little emotionally in return. He’s broke, meek, and lonely,...

The name Bryan Johnson may not ring a bell, but odds are you’ve already seen the man shirtless, posing with a vial of his son’s blood. The 46-year-old tech millionaire has made the rounds time and again on social media for going to extreme lengths to curb the effects of aging in a longevity project called Blueprint, which he calls an “algorithm” for preserving his body.
Johnson takes more than 100 supplements a day, submits himself to constant medical assessments, keeps to a strict diet that prohibits any food after 11 a.

Tech millionaire Bryan Johnson’s anti-aging health regimen, “Project Blueprint,” has become the subject of countless media profiles for its severity. The venture capitalist takes more than a hundred supplements a day, eats only between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., has experimented with receiving blood-plasma transfusions from his teenage son, and reportedly spends $2 million a year on efforts to optimize his body. He painstakingly documents these routines and their results on social media.

For many, Kevin Smith is a filmmaker who once upon a time made great movies while others have stuck by his side through thick and thin. With the well-reviewed Clerks III wrapping up the story 30 years in the making, it is time we take a look back at one of the most iconic careers in independent film history and we find out just Wtf Happened to Kevin Smith.
But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began for Kevin Smith on August 2, 1970 in Red Bank, New Jersey. Smith has said that seeing his father struggle with his job working at the post office made him vow to never work a job that he hated, but never really thought there was a future for someone like him in the film industry despite his love for movies. Smith would make friends with people such as future Comic Book...

San Francisco, Aug 12 (Ians) US billionaire Bryan Johnson who spends $2 million per year on a controversial regimen to fight back the ravages of time, said he would drink alcohol for breakfast every morning.
During an appearance on Seven Bartlett’s ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast, the 45-year-old tech guru — whose desire to restore his organs to those of an 18-year-old — stated that he would begin each day with three ounces of wine, reports The New York Post.
Johnson also said that he cut out the morning drinking because he couldn’t spare the calories.
“I got rid of it because it was too expensive from a calorie perspective,” Johnson was quoted as saying.
He added that he couldn’t fit the 71 calories into his “calorie budget” for the day, so he woke up and began his day with a cold-pressed juice he calls the “green giant” and 60 pills.

The new DC Universe won’t just roll out on the big screen as a number of television projects are also in development. One of those projects is Creature Commandos, an animated series which features a black ops team consisting of monstrous prisoners formed by Amanda Waller. While speaking with Collider (before the SAG-AFTRA strike), David Harbour teased the Creature Commandos is “wildly funny.“
“I didn’t know what it was when it was sent to me; I met with James, and he sort of laid out a lot of stuff,” David Harbour says. “It’s really exciting. He considers it some of the best stuff he’s ever written. It’s hilarious, and the character is great. I think it’s been announced that it’s Frankenstein, and it’s a very colorful, terrific character. New Delhi, May 23 (Ians) In a bizarre case, an American multi-millionaire in his 40s is attempting to reverse ageing using blood plasma transfusions from his teenage son, media reports said. With the plasma transfusions from his 17-year old son, Bryan Johnson, 45, claims to have the skin of a 28-year-old and the lung capacity of an 18-year-old, the Sun reported.
Previously, he received blood transfusions from healthy, anonymous donors who were carefully screened to ensure they had an ideal body mass index and were free of diseases.
In the process, one litre of blood from each participant is removed and converted into liquid plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets via a high-tech machine.
It is then injected into Johnson’s veins which he believes will rejuvenate and repair his old blood and keep him looking and feeling young, the report said.

Nearly 30 years after its cinematic debut, I assure you, the Quick Stop is open once again thanks to "Clerks III." After trying to manifest this project in a number of different ways since the release of the second film in 2006, fan-favorite filmmaker Kevin Smith is finally presenting the third chapter in Dante Hicks and Randal Graves' story in a theater near you. And interestingly enough, this movie brings the New Jersey native all the way back to his first chapter as the characters that kickstarted his career back in the early '90s are now making their own movie about working in a convenience store.

Exclusive: Hilary Swank film Speed Girl has found its writing team.
The feature, which comes from Balcony 9 Productions, will be written by Ford v Ferrari screenwriter Jason Keller and his writing partner Bryan Johnson.
Keller, who will also exec produce, also previously wrote Snow White film Mirror Mirror and Sylvester Stallone’s Escape Plan.
Swank is to play Janet Guthrie, a pilot turned racecar driver who smashed barriers to become the first woman to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500, in the film.
Set in the 1970s when the fight for women’s rights was gaining speed, Guthrie made a bid for the Indianapolis 500 in 1976 despite relentless opposition from the racing establishment and the men she hoped to race against. Janet qualified for the race in 1978 where she finished in the top ten, destroying many widely-held stereotypes about female drivers. What do you do when the plug is pulled permanently on your TV show, with just a handful of episodes to go? How do you wrap up over a decade of storylines and characters in twenty-five minutes? How do you mark the end of an era? That was the dilemma facing the makers of Byker Grove, the occasionally-gritty teen drama about a Tyneside youth club when it was finally axed in 2006. The show had been a tea-time institution, running on BBC One every autumn since 1989 The last episode of the eighteenth and final series went out on December 10th, fifteen years ago this week.
The show’s final story has gone down in history as one of the all-time bonkers meta TV endings. In the episode, titled ‘Deus Ex Machina’, the teenage Grovers learn that they’re characters in a TV show, manipulated for the entertainment of an omnipotent writer,...

For almost all of us, being stuck in our homes has led to mass amounts of boredom. For those like myself, not being able to go to the movie theater is a huge change from what we’re used to. Luckily, a number of films that came out just before the Coronavirus pandemic broke out have gone quickly to Video On Demand, allowing audiences to still indulge in their offerings. One such title is Impractical Jokers: The Movie, one of my favorite comedies of 2020 so far, and a perfect tonic from all of the world’s stress right now. Film wise, there are few options more determined to put a smile on your face than this one. For those who still don’t know about this team, a quick refresher is in order for you. The Impractical Jokers are Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn (Q for short), and Sal Vulcano.

I don’t watch a lot of television. Seeing well over 300 movies a year will do that to you, as you might imagine. However, when I do opt for TV over a film, it’s almost always something silly to just sit back and enjoy. One of the few programs I always make time for is Impractical Jokers, the long running TruTV show that has built up a dedicated following over the years. This week, the four Jokers head to the big screen for Impractical Jokers: The Movie. To honor that, today we’ll be doing a slightly different Spotlight on the Stars piece, opting to highlight, yes, the Impractical Jokers. The Impractical Jokers are, of course, Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn (Q for short), and Sal Vulcano. The four have been friends for decades and came to prominence with YouTube videos initially, before getting the show, which has...

Kevin Smith recently announced on his recent SModcast episode that AMC has canceled Comic Book Men after seven seasons and 96 episodes. Snith hosted the series, which was filmed in Smith’s New Jersey comic book and collectibles shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. The series featured Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Ming Chen, and Mike Zapcic, and they talked about all kinds of geeky things!
When talking about the cancellation of the show, Smith said that it was "the moment that every Comic Book Men fan dreaded." He went on to say:
"When you got a TV show, you live in fear of the moment that our little TV show just faced. Comic Book Men — our series that has been on AMC for seven seasons, 96 episodes, shot at Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey, starring Walter, Bryan, Ming, and Mike, and occasionally myself,...

The week is strong with the Hollywood idea that one good movie will keep your career going endlessly. M. Night Shyamalan in back this weekend with The Visit, a fairly goofy-looking found footage horror flick about grandparents gone wrong, and now Kevin Smith is teasing the production of Mallrats 2.
Apparently, the film will be shooting in January, and Smith has found his mall. The Exton Square Mall in Pennsylvania will, for whatever reason, be the home to a slew of returning actors. The story goes that Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, and many more will be in the film, with Smith, naturally, returning as Silent Bob.
Here’s what Smith had to say on Facebook –
We found our Mall, y’all! This January, the @extonsquaremall in Exton, Pa will star in #Mallrats 2! @jayandsilentbob are coming to Chester County!

When Kevin Smith's "Comic Book Men" returns to wrap up its third season on AMC on Sunday (Feb. 9), he and the guys will be welcoming a guest star of high geek proportions.
In the premiere, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash is throwing a big bash to celebrate Superman's 75th anniversary and they've gotten none other than Supes himself, Dean Cain, to attend the festivities.
Can we just say: Bryan Johnson dressed as kryptonite is pretty perfect.
Check out a teaser for the big event below, though AMC tries their hardest to keep Cain's appearance under wraps. Why? Who knows.

One customer gets more than he bargained for when he tries to sell an oversized collectible on "Comic Book Men." "Comic Book Men" is set at Smith's New Jersey comic book store, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. Currently in its third season, the AMC reality show details the antics of Smith and his friends Chen, Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson and Mike Zapcic as they meet and geek out with the various customers and people who come into the store. The last two weeks have been amongst the busiest in my entire life. As a result, my New York Comic Con coverage for this site has been non-existent. Now that my friend’s wedding is over, the Orlando Film Festival has come to a close, my extravagant musical puppet wedding proposal was a huge success and I am now back in New York, it is finally time to get my Nycc experience online.
Thursday has always been a preview day at Nycc defined by shorter hours, smaller crowds and few panels/signings. Oddly enough, I have never attended on a Thursday but it was always my plan to make it this year. That was until Wednesday October 9th when I received an invitation from Universal to attend a junket for Curse Of Chucky. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Child’s Play the new sequel and the Nycc panel, they...

Best Beard — Winner: Huckleberry Huckleberry/Mountain Monsters 44.1% Willie Robertson/Duck Dynasty 33.7% Robert Munson (Mark Boone Junior)/Sons of Anarchy 9.8% Hart Fortenbery/Deep South Paranormal 5.8% Aaron Kaufman/Fast N’ Loud 2.7% Todd Hoffman/Gold Rush 2.1% Bryan Johnson/Comic Book Men 1.9% Percentages may not total 100 due to rounding. Kevin Smith, the director of Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma and many others is also the owner of a comic book store in Red Bank, New Jersey, called “Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash”, and this television show follows the guys who run the store – Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen (pictured above with Smith).
The idea behind the show is almost a comic-book themed Pawn Stars where the staff of the Secret Stash barter with clients who come into the shop to sell various comic book related items, such as books, toys, games and even the odd pair of “underoos”
This, the second season of the show, contains sixteen episodes, with each beginning with round-table style discussions lead by Kevin Smith as he talks to the staff of the store, Walt, Ming, Mike and Brian (each episode of the show is accompanied by a companion podcast, titled The...

I left my local comics shop this week with a large stack of comics and decided to read Cryptozoic Man #1 first – and it turned out to be the comic I finished last. About halfway through the comic I set it down, utterly frustrated with the amateurish writing and abysmal storytelling, and read every single other comic I had before returning to finish this off, feeling the beginning of a headache coming on as I did. Cryptozoic Man #1 is the worst comic of the week and is definitely a contender for worst comic of the year.
The comic is by Bryan Johnson and Walter Flanagan, two of the “stars” of AMC’s reality TV series Comic Book Men, as indicated by the logo in the top corner of the cover. In the last season, the Comic Book Men pitched Cryptozoic Man to Dynamite who agreed to publish it and, as the third season is about air,...

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes unleashed the first trailer for their new animated adventure Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! This is what Jay & Silent Bob fans get while we wait for Smith's final film Clerks 3. Maybe some of the more hardcore fans will like what they see in the animated film, but it really kind of just fell flat for me, and did nothing to make me want to see the movie. It just seems like there was a lot of recycled stuff from Mallrats and Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back. But maybe some of you will look past that stuff, and enjoy what you see. Here's the synopsis...

Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) made a lucrative career in making films and whoring merchandise for the slacker, the geek, and yes, the common store clerk. But in recent years Smith and his entourage have become accessible to his fans through a variety of podcasts or “Smodcasts,” the most popular featuring with Smith with film producer and friend, Scott Mosier. Now Smith is taking the Smodcasts and relying on his loyal fanbase to turn the tube to AMC and their latest reality-tv show, Comic Book Men, produced by the people behind L.A. Ink, to shine a light on the world of running a comic book shop.
For those unaware, Smith owns a shop, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in his hometown of Red Bank, N.J. and it is where the show is staged and the subjects are those who stand in front of and behind the counter. The...

So, you’re considering checking out Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men on AMC (right after The Walking Dead season 2 return), but have no idea what to expect. Here are five quick tidbits on the new series that may make you hate or love the new show from Smith (and a strange appearance by Gollum from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey).
1 – Kevin Smith is barely in the shop.
If you were looking to see a show that was pure Smith in action, think again. This pilot focuses more on the store workers and less on Smith. The Executive Producer only appears inside the podcast room where the group discusses events from the week. It’s a live podcast in every sense of the word.
2 – These guys love comics, well most of them do
Walt Flanagan is the store manager of The Secret Stash and has been a friend of Smith’s since high school.

It took a full 30 seconds for the cast of Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men to make their first penis joke. Immediately, we realized the show would do little to dispel any of the stereotypes associated with comic store owners and staff.
AMC's new reality show chronicles the life and times of five people working at the New Jersey comic book store "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash." Cutting between shenanigans at the store, a roundtable podcast, and the pursuit of rare collectibles, Comic Book Men promised on the surface to provide a unique look into the often-misunderstood world of pop culture collectibles.
Unfortunately, despite some promise and a few clever elements, the show was too slowly paced to capture the viewer's interest. While the pilot episode contains some wit, and at least a few laugh out loud moments, for the most part it leaves you wondering if there was...

Earlier today the 2011 Sundance Film Festival competition line-up was announced [1], and quite a few people observed [2] that the list of announced films did not include Kevin Smith's Red State. So does that mean that Smith's indie horror film didn't make it into the festival which launched his first film Clerks? Is that even possible? Some might remember that the Park City-based film festival didn't accept Smith's last foray into horror, a movie titled Vulgar about a party clown who gets gangraped (Smith produced, Bryan Johnson directed). Could Sundance have been turned off by Smith's idea to hold a public auction for his film in the theater at the conclusion of the first film festival screening [3]? Did Red State really get snubbed by Sundance? Nope... Kevin Smith's Red State will make its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in one of the out of competition categories. Smith confirmed...
