Nelson Coates has been reelected president of the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800. Coates, who ran unopposed, was first elected to the post in 2015.
“I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to continue leading the Art Directors Guild – one of the most creative and influential Locals in the entertainment business,” said Coates, the production designer on Crazy Rich Asians and Apple TV+’s The Morning Show. “Championing the talents of our 3,000 members, addressing the unprecedented industry challenges and changes brought about by the pandemic, fostering member diversity, equity and inclusion, and striving to keep Adg members at the forefront of technological advances are but a few of the many areas of continued focus. I am excited about the direction of the Adg and look forward to what we can accomplished over the course of the next three years.”

"These were pieces made for the first Thor movie for costume designer Alexandra Byrne. I didn't do much on the show as I was only on it for a week or two. The two pieces represent Odin in ceremonial gear as well as more casual clothing. I wanted to make the ceremonial gear very 'Kirby-like' in it's feel. Everything ridiculously wide and vast. All elements point to Odin's face. I also wanted to relate him to the traditional Thor elements (like the disks on his tunic) to tie him to his son. I did the piece in photoshop combining pieces that were digitally hand painted, some photographic elements, and elements from previous versions done by other artists." - Benton Jew Concept Art by Benton Jew Concept Art by Daphne Yap >"Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, "Thor", which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to...

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

Back in 1997, producers Avi Arad and Gale Anne Hurd were working on a live-action "Hulk" movie, in which the massive character would battle terrorists, the military, Brian Banner and insect men. Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) was attached to direct, but eventually dropped out. Hurd's husband Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher) was brought on to replace Johnston and make his directorial debut. Unfortunately, the project fell apart. Now, concept artist Benton Jew has unveiled some of the drawings and illustrations he put together for that movie. Check them out below, in addition to storyboards for Edward Norton's "The Incredible Hulk" and illustrations for Ang Lee's "2003" Hulk" movie, which originally was supposed to star Billy Crudup (Watchmen). Many of you may not know this, but director Ang Lee originally wanted Billy Crudup to play Bruce Banner in his Hulk movie. He was attached to the project but ended up dropping out for some reason. He was later replaced by Eric Bana who actually ended up being great in the role.
Concept artist Benton Jew did some character designs for Crudup's Hulk before he dropped out. It actually ended up looking pretty silly--then again, he never really got a chance to dive into it.
The artist also released some concept art for another Hulk movie that was being developed in 1997, before Lee came on as a director. It was being produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man) and Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead). Joe Johnston (Captain America) was going to direct but dropped out and ended up being replaced by Hurd's husband, Jonathan Hensleigh, (who had never directed a...

Concept artist Benton Jew has worked on a wide variety of films, and actually started work at George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic. Since he had done work on every Hulk film except for The Avengers, Jew decided to share some old concept art as well as an interesting look at Billy Crudup as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Yes, this almost happened. At one time, Crudup was attached to play the green machine in Ang Lee's vision then dropped out because according to Jew he had reservations about...
