Last year, we heard that Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss would be launching a new production company with Gary Hamilton (so the company is appropriately called Simmons/Hamilton Productions), and the first project they had given the greenlight was a shark thriller called Deep Water – with Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin attached to take the helm of the film! That film has since made its way through production, and a couple days ago we learned that the cast includes Aaron Eckhart of Harlin’s The Bricklayer, Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), Molly Wright (Netflix’s True Spirit), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road), Kelly Gale (Plane), singer and actor Li Wenhan, who is a member of the Chinese-Korean K-Pop group Uniq, and Nashi (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms). Now a first look image has made its way online, and it shows the characters played by Eckhart and Wright.

This is not a drill: the man who made "Deep Blue Sea" is finally making another shark movie. The most interesting wrinkle? Gene Simmons of Kiss fame is producing the movie from director Renny Harlin, which is titled "Deep Water." How did we get to a place where Simmons is working with Harlin? Let's discuss.
According to Variety, Simmons has launched a new production company with Gary Hamilton of Arclight Films, aptly titled Simmons/Hamilton Prods. They're aiming to make a handful of action/thriller movies a year, and first up is "Deep Water," which will see Harlin getting back in the ring with some big sharks for the first time since 1999 when he made arguably the second-best shark movie of all time with "Deep Blue Sea." What will this new film be about? The synopsis reads as follows:

Kiss rocker Gene Simmons and Gary Hamilton, Chairman of sales and production company Arclight Films, have launched a new production company called Simmons/Hamilton Productions.
The production banner will produce 25 movies over an initial five-year period, with a focus on action, thriller, and genre titles. In a statement announcing the news, the company said it is backed by a “multi-billion dollar fund manager” who is providing slate financing through a “revolving finance facility.” Arclight Films’ CFO Brian Beckmann was responsible for closing the slate funding deal. All films created under the banner will be produced by Simmons and Hamilton.
The first greenlit project is Deep Water, a survival thriller directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2). Scheduled to go into production later this year, the pic tells the adventurous tale of an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from LA to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters.

Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss must have been a big fan of the 1999 shark thriller Deep Blue Sea, because he has just launched a new production company with Gary Hamilton (so the company is appropriately called Simmons/Hamilton Productions), and the first project he and Hamilton are giving the greenlight is a shark thriller called Deep Water – and they have hired Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin to take the helm of the film!
According to Variety, Simmons/Hamilton Productions intends to develop, finance, and produce 25 movies over the next 5 years, with “a focus on action, thriller and genre titles with global franchise potential.” A multi-billion dollar fund manager is providing the financing for their development slate through a revolving finance facility. I don’t even know exactly what that all means, but it sounds good. They’re aiming to make theatrical product that can kick-start franchises.

Over 20 years after the release of Deep Blue Sea, director Renny Harlin is headed back into shark-infested waters with the upcoming Deep Water, Variety reports this afternoon.
Renny Harlin’s Deep Water will be the first project from a new production company launched by Gene Simmons (Kiss) and Gary Hamilton, titled Simmons/Hamilton Prods.
Variety reports, “The standalone banner will produce 25 movies over an initial five-year period, with a focus on action, thriller and genre titles with global franchise potential.”
Deep Water tells the tale of an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from Los Angeles to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks drawn to the wreckage.

David Mamet is going to need more than a motorcade with the cast he has lined up for his upcoming JFK movie Assassination. Reports have come out that the film will star Al Pacino, John Travolta, Viggo Mortensen, Shia Labeouf, Rebecca Pidgeon, and Courtney Love. That’s one Academy Award winner, two Oscar nominees, a BAFTA winner, Mamet’s wife, and Courtney Love! (We kid–Love is a fantastic actress and was robbed of a nod for The People vs. Larry Flynt.)
As per Deadline, Assassination “will retell the fateful murder of John F. Kennedy from the mob’s point of view, reimagining his death as a hit ordered by Chicago mob kingpin Sam Giancana as payback for JFK’s attempt to undermine the mob after they helped get him elected.” The script is co-written by Mamet and Nicholas Celozzi, who is actually Giancana’s grandnephew, which should elevate the authenticity.

It’s been 15 years since Redbelt, the last theatrical feature from David Mamet, and time has not been kind to the writer-director. Like many in his generation, his mind has been fully Fox News-ified to the point where I had thought his 2008 feature might be his last film (not discounting his HBO outing in 2013) and his potential funding has dried up. That hasn’t been the case, however, as his next project has been announced ahead of production beginning this fall and it will be sold at the Cannes market.
Set in 1963 and scripted by Mamet and Nicholas Celozzi, Assassination is set during a “crucial justice hearing against organized crime, when the head of the Chicago mob orders the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, creating a deadly conspiracy while altering the fate of a nation.” With a cast featuring Al Pacino, Viggo Mortensen, John Travolta, Shia Labeouf, Rebecca Pidgeon,...

Oscar winner Al Pacino (The Godfather), Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (Green Book), Oscar nominee John Travolta (Pulp Fiction), BAFTA winner Shia Labeouf (Honey Boy), NBR Award winner Rebecca Pidgeon (Heist) and Golden Globe nominated singer and actress Courtney Love (The People vs. Larry Flynt) are set to star in the thriller Assassination, we can reveal.
The film, which Arclight is launching for the Cannes market, is to be directed by Pulitzer Prize-winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet (Wag the Dog) from a script he co-wrote with Nicholas Celozzi.
Assassination will retell the fateful murder of John F.
