- With more than 20 years as a Cameraman and Technical Co-Ordinator, Derek Grover has become the pre-eminent resource for24P high definition production in network television and feature films.
In 1999 Panavision recruited Mr. Grover to assist in the introduction and utilization of their Sony / Panavision hybrid 24P HD cameras. And the design and development of what has now become the state-of-the-art 24P High Definition multi-camera production system for all major studios in North America.
Derek facilitated the first 24P HD productions for Columbia Tri-Star Television, Paramount Television, Warner Brothers Television, New Line Cinema, Warner Brothers Films, Touchstone Television, MTV Films and Comedy Central.
Mr. Grover's expertise continues to be sought after by every studio production department and during the '03-04 production season he was responsible for 22 television pilots and assisted in transitioning 30% of network primetime shows from film to High Definition cinematography.
In 2005 Derek was technically responsible for the first major motion picture to employ the Panavision Genesis camera, Panavision again entrusted Mr. Grover to insure this multi-million dollar movie would come-off without a hitch and set a benchmark for future digitally photographed features using the state-of-the-art Genesis HD camera system.
In addition to his numerous production credits, Mr. Grover was integral in the creation of the professional classification of Digital Imaging Technician for the Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600. He is also a columnist for HighDef Magazine and has been interviewed by many national news organizations about the financial, aesthetic and technical aspects of high definition production.
