Boston Strangler is a thriller movie starring Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon. It is written and directed by Matt Ruskin.
Good photography, good performances… in a film that wants to be more of a vindication than a thriller and more All the President’s Men than Silence of the Lambs.
That said, Hulu and 20th Century Studios surprise with this very good, excellently set, period production.

Amy Sherman-Palladino was inspired to create The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel by childhood memories of her stand-up comedian father and admiration for early female comics. Her pilot script ended up becoming one of Amazon Prime Video’s most successful series to date: Over the past three seasons, the series has scored 54 Emmy nominations and 20 wins including one for Outstanding Comedy Series for its debut season.
The third episode of Season 4, “Everything is Bellmore,” is the latest installment of It Starts on the Page, Deadline’s annual series that highlights the scripts that serve as the creative backbones of the buzzy shows that will define the TV awards season. The scripts in our series are all being submitted for Emmy Awards consideration this year and have been selected by Deadline using criteria that includes critical acclaim, selecting from a wide range of networks and platforms and a mix of established and lesser-known shows.

“Bloodthirsty,” a werewolf thriller about a rising singer who finds herself in a compromising position, has sold U.S. distribution rights to Brainstorm Media. It will release in theaters and on demand on April 23.
The film, which premiered at the virtual Fantastic Fest Celebration, was directed by Amelia Moses. Wendy Hill-Tout wrote the script with her daughter, songwriter Lowell.
The story centers on Grey (portrayed by Lauren Beatty), a singer who relocates to a remote cabin to work on her second album with noted music producer Vaughn Daniels (Greg Bryk). But as her songwriting progresses, she starts to transform into a powerful, bloodthirsty beast.
Lowell says the film was inspired by her own experiences and the pressure she felt when trying to write a follow-up album to her first record, “We Loved Her Dearly.” Along with crafting the screenplay, she also wrote original music for “Bloodthirsty.”

“This is a time to turn the page,” declares “Working Man” writer/director Robert Jury on what his film ultimately has to say about moving on and coping with loss. “Despite all the loss, the tragic loss we’ve had with disease and job loss and all those things that compound as a result, having that hope, having that optimism, even in the worst of times and places, I think it was important for me to have this resilient message ultimately,” he says. We talked with Jury as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with key 2021 guild and Oscar contenders. Watch our interview above.

Every once in a while, a veteran journeyman actor breaks through at the Golden Globes, notwithstanding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s infatuation with red carpet-ready celebrities. So look out for character actor Peter Gerety to potentially score a bid when the HFPA announces its nominations on Feb. 3, for his heartbreaking turn in “Working Man.” And that could potentially get the ball rolling for him towards an underdog Oscar nom.
It would be the first nomination ever for Gerety, who recently turned 80, and who after working on stage and screen for 60 years has given arguably his most acclaimed performance to date. “For guys like me, meaning, 6’2″, 219, I don’t look like a vulnerable type,” admits Billy Brown. Notwithstanding the actor’s commanding and stoic physical appearance, in “Working Man,” Brown delivers a raw and honest performance as a man who is more than meets the eye, someone that is vulnerable, caring and emotional.
“You’re seeing something that you wouldn’t necessarily expect and you’re finding the vulnerabilities, the openness that we all have,” he says. Watch our exclusive video interview with Brown above.

"It's just something I need to do." Brainstorm Media has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Working Man, the feature directorial debut of an Iowa-based filmmaker named Robert Jury - who also wrote the screenplay and produced this. It premiered at the Kansas City FilmFest last year and also played at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The film is the culmination of a decade long project for Jury. The story follows a factory worker who continues going to his job every day, despite the factory being shut down. "His peculiar decision has a profound effect on the whole community, though his actions yield an outcome that no one ever expected." This stars Peter Gerety as Allery Parkes, the "working man", along with a small cast including Talia Shire as his wife, Billy Brown, & Michael Brunlieb. The indie film received a few rave reviews, saying "it's never pedantic or preachy,...

The title Working Man only deals with one aspect of Robert Jury’s film about the effects of a rust belt town’s last factory closing. Allery Parkes (Peter Gerety) is a “working man,” but his breaking-in to continue working without pay while his neighbors (also laid-off) think he’s gone crazy isn’t a product of compulsion. No, he does this because it’s the best excuse he has to escape home. As the opening prologue alludes with Allery calling his son’s name to no avail, this current version of him suffers from unacknowledged depression. He doesn’t talk to his co-workers anymore and his wife (Talia Shire’s Iola) can barely coax two words out herself. The job has therefore been his reprieve—a solitary task that stopped him from thinking about his loss.
Now it’s gone. Now he must sit at the kitchen table and...

Despite being touted as an impressive streaming performer, Sneaky Pete has been given the axe from Amazon.
Sneaky Pete was unable to grift itself another season on Amazon Prime Video, which has canceled the series.
The series, the co-creation of Bryan Cranston and David Shore, launched on the streaming platform on August 7, 2015. It starred Giovanni Ribisi as Marius Josipovic, a smart, seedy con man who, initially upon his release from prison, dodges a debt to a dangerous gangster (Cranston) by posing as his cellmate, Pete Murphy, using all the stories he’s been told to ingratiate himself to the Bernhardts, Pete’s long-estranged Connecticut-based family, who run a bail bonds business. However, as we witness over the course of three seasons, Marius/Pete instinctually grifts his way out of problems; a practice that’s usually successful, but tends to spawn more problems and compounds others.

“Sneaky Pete” is coming to an end.
The crime drama, which was co-created by Bryan Cranston and starred Giovanni Ribisi, has been canceled after three seasons on Amazon.

The series was primarily set in upstate New York, with much of the action also in and around New York City. It also starred Marin Ireland, Margo Martindale, Peter Gerety, Libe Barer, and Shane McRae.
Blake Masters was the showrunner on season 3, after taking over for Graham Yost. Cranston also executive produced along with James Degus. Sneaky Pete is in a unique position as it enters its third season.
The show does not waste its time getting right back into the swing of things, taking the expected and twisting it into a surprising but inevitable direction.
There's a realigning of sorts, in which its characters are taken down their natural, and uncomfortable, paths.
A looming theme comes to light through the opening hours of the third season: the need to be better. It's on every character's mind as their status quo changes in some form.
The show plays with this delicate balance, stretching barriers while retaining the core the show, something at which it excels.
Marius' past drives his story allowing for his shell to crack a little more. Giovanni Ribisi as the lead gives the show a commanding presence as his character continues to fascinate.
Ribisi plays Marius with a level of discomfort, less assured...

Though director Dianne Dreyer’s “Change in the Air” opens on a shocking, attention-grabbing scene of a desperate elderly man (played by M. Emmet Walsh) deliberately stepping in front of a moving vehicle, the rest of the film takes its sweet time to ramp up to faux profundity about humanity, spirituality, friendship, and forgiveness. The title is not only an allusion to the mysterious young lady (played by Rachel Brosnahan) who changes lives in a quiet suburban neighborhood, but also applies rather morbidly to the literal change that flies from the hand of that suicidal man.
With religious hymns scattered throughout, along with mentions of miracles, Eastern philosophy, and overt metaphysical powers, it’s clear the filmmakers are aiming for the faith-based market. However, the film has about as much resonance as a “Coexist” bumper sticker. Without a compelling, coherent narrative drive, the film’s own spirit sags.

Amazon has ordered a third season of “Sneaky Pete.”
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the TCA summer press tour on Saturday. The official renewal was a foregone conclusion, given that it was announced in March that the series would receive a California tax credit as it relocates its production from New York.
“Sneaky Pete” was co-created by Bryan Cranston and stars Giovanni Ribisi. Its first two seasons were set in upstate New York, with much of the action also in and around New York City. The series also stars Marin Ireland, Margo Martindale, Peter Gerety, Libe Barer, and Shane McRae.
Blake Masters joins as showrunner for new season, taking over for Graham Yost. Cranston also executive produces along with James Degus. Moonshot Entertainment produces along with Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. David Shore also co-created the series and served as the original showrunner before stepping down.

Someone managed to get Detective Frank Pembleton back in the box.
Members of the cast and production team of the critically acclaimed NBC drama “Homicide: Life on the Street” came together at the Paley Center in New York to talk about the distinctive drama that flouted many of the conventions of network TV. The main focus of the show, which ran between 1993 and 1999, was on how Baltimore police detectives passed the time while trying to solve murders. But there were few car chases, shootings or dramatic arrest scenes. “Every episode was like an affront to network television,” noted Andre Braugher, who played Detective Pembleton on the program and came to wider fame while working on it.

For anyone that forgot the strange origins of “Sneaky Pete,” Season 2 is here to remind you of what it could have been, what it is, and why it’s caught in between. He called Cranston the day after his win and they started developing a series…

Early last year, Bryan Cranston and “Justified” showrunner Graham Yost teamed up with Amazon to bring us “Sneaky Pete,” a crime drama about a con man who assumes his cell mate’s identity in order to run from his past. The second season, premiering in March, promises to continue following the journey of Marius Josipovic (Giovanni Ribisi) as he faces the fallout of his new identity.
