Christopher Lee, born on this day in 1922, had an amazing career of fantastic performances and remains the greatest villain actor in film history. He was the last classic horror star and Wamg thanks him for all the monster memories.
Christopher Lee was married to his wife Birgit (Gitte) for 54 years.
Here, according to Movie Geeks Jim Batts, Dana Jung, Sam Moffitt, and myself, are Christopher Lee’s ten best roles.

It’s only fitting that The Curse Of Frankenstein, the film that truly began England’s Hammer Studios’ theatrical run of full color gothic horror epics, should team their greatest stars, Peter Cushing as Baron Victor Frankenstein and Christopher Lee as his monster. This was the first big screen incarnation of the monster after Universal’s 30’s and 40’s classics with Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, and, of course, Boris Karloff. Because the Jack Pierce make-up is owned by that studio,...

Hammer’s first color Gothic horror show recovers its charnel house luster in the Wac’s ambitious ‘surprise’ restoration. The severed heads and Peter Cushing’s blood-smeared costumes are back to their crimson best again, and with the improved image Terence Fisher’s taut direction really grabs us, extracting maximum impact from Jimmy Sangster’s ‘did you see that?’ shock moments. The show seemed incredibly graphic and violent in 1964 so it must have been a jaw-dropper for audiences of 1957 — our parents can’t have known what their kiddies were watching. The Warner Archive Collection really delivers for collectors — the extras here are as thorough as those offered by the ‘usual suspect’ boutique outfits that fixate on classic horror.

The best of all Hammer horror pictures finally comes to Region A Blu-ray, with a bright transfer made to look like original Technicolor prints. This is where Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing came into their own as international stars, as the undead Count Dracula and the no-nonsense vampire killer Van Helsing. It’s the bridge between old-school gothic horrors and the modern age of sex and gore, and it’s as exciting as a breakneck action serial.

The day monster kids have dreaded for some time has arrived. Mournful, nostalgic, and melancholy – it’s the end of an era for more than one generation of horror fans. It seemed like Christopher Lee would live through all eternity, but unlike some of the characters he played, there’s no bringing him back to life this time. He made it to 93 and went out on a high note, appearing in the final Hobbit film just this past winter. He had an amazing career of fantastic performances and remains the greatest villain actor in film history. Rip to the last classic horror star and thank you for all the monster memories.

To mark the release of Hammer’s The Quiet Ones (in cinemas now – our review here) we look at some of Hammer Films’ greatest scary moments! That Hammer’s power to shock has diminished over the years is no surprise. An ever-increasing permissiveness and escalating developments in special effects mean that films so terrifying that they threatened the security of your very soul back in 1956, now make an ideal afternoon viewing companion to a pot of tea and a hot buttered crumpet. Horror movies have spent each of the last 100 years trying to outdo a previously existing outrage, so the limitations of 1960s special effects teams are often made laughable by the sophistication and realism of 21st century blood-letting.
However, there is still something inexplicably chilling about Hammer films at their best; something primal about the unease they create. The ‘Bad Man in The Forest,’ usually represented by Christopher Lee,...

The film career of legendary English actor Sir Christopher Lee began in 1948 and continues to the present day. Lee is best known for his roles in horror films, especially the string of seven Dracula movies he starred in for Hammer Studios between 1958 and 1974, but be may be best known to younger audiences for his roles in the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films. Almost all of the roles that Lee has played have been villains and here, according to We Are Movie Geeks, are his ten best.

This week saw the release of a new book that details the life and career of horror legend, Peter Cushing. Titled, Peter Cushing: A Life in Film, we have an exclusive excerpt that talks about The Curse of Frankenstein, and multiple photos from the book:
“Peter Cushing was an unforgettable presence in cult cinema of the fifties, sixties and seventies, and remains one of Britain’s best-loved film stars. Cushing made a huge impact in the groundbreaking television adaptation of Nineteen Eighty-Four, and went on to find international fame as Baron Frankenstein and Doctor Van Helsing in the most acclaimed films from the Hammer house of horror. During his lengthy career, Cushing also played Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes and Grand Moff Tarkin, the villain of the original Star Wars.

John Carpenter, lovingly referred to by horror buffs as The Prince of Darkness, has written and directed some of the most iconic sci-fi/horror films of all time, including my personal own faves "Halloween" (1978) and "The Thing" (1982).
Carpenter’s new film "The Ward" -- his first in over a decade, since 2000's "Ghosts of Mars" -- is a delicious psychological slasher flick with creepy Gothic horror elements (they shot in a real late-1800s asylum) and a disturbing Jared Harris, son of the late Richard Harris, as the suspiciously circumspect head psychologist.
The protagonists are four attractive (surprise!) young female inmates (Amber Heard, Mamie Gummer, Danielle Panabaker and Laura-Leigh) who are unrelentingly subjected to terrifying bumps and jumps in the night. Think "Shutter Island" meets "Sucker Punch."
Given Carpenter’s lifelong horror bent, we asked for a list of his favorite horror films. Not surprisingly, they are all classic movies...
