Severance is “Back to work.” Director and executive producer Ben Stiller took to Instagram this morning to confirm that the Apple TV+ drama series had returned to production after a months-long delay due to the Hollywood strikes.
Stiller’s Instagram post, captioned “Back to work,” features a black-and-white photo of star Adam Scott running through what appears to be a hallway at Lumon Industries.
Severance had paused production on Season 2 in May when the WGA went on strike, which was then followed by the SAG-AFTRA walkout. With both strikes long resolved, production is now back on course.
From creator and writer Dan Erickson and Stiller, Severance stars Scott as Mark Scout, who leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself...

Welcome back to Lumon.
“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

"Severance" season two seems to have hit another snag. Production on the show's next installment has screeched to a halt in New York amid the ongoing writers' strike, Deadline reported on May 8.
Just a few days earlier, star Zach Cherry had confirmed that filming was in progress and said "things have been going good" in a May 4 interview with Entertainment Tonight. While Cherry didn't give away much information at the time, he said that when reading the second season's script, "My reaction was the same as my reaction was to the first script in season one, which is, 'This is good!'"
"Severance" season two may have already experienced some setbacks, as in late April, Puck News reported that it had been delayed partly due to animosity between showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman. After a report claimed that behind-the-scenes issues were delaying Season 2 of Severance, executive producer Ben Stiller cleared the air on Twitter, saying the Apple TV+ series’ sophomore outing is on schedule with the “same target air date we’ve always had.” Stiller’s tweet on Friday, April 28, came after Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reported (per The Daily Beast) that Season 2 was behind schedule because of script issues, increased production costs, and tension between co-showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman. Belloni claimed Erickson, the creator of Severance and a first-time TV producer, and Friedman, a veteran TV writer, and producer, “ended up hating each other on the first season” and that Friedman even quit the show before Stiller roped him back in for Season 2. Also involved in the production, according to the report, is House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, who’s helping plot the trajectory of Severance’s second and third season.

Writers had to share the spotlight with independent filmmakers and sound designers last night, but they’ll have it all to themselves tonight when the 75th annual Writers Guild of America awards are officially unveiled.
The WGA Awards took place in concurrent ceremonies tonight at New York’s Edison Ballroom and Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza. The Writers Guild of America West (Wgaw) and the Writers Guild of America, East (Wgae) labor unions represent writers in motion pictures, television, cable, digital media, and broadcast news.
Michelle Buteau was hosting from New York and said she felt “luckier than Pete Davidson’s dick” to be presiding over the ceremony. Her raucous monologue included lines such as, “Tom Cruise is more of a ‘Bottom Gun’ than a ‘Top Gun.'”

Sunday’s 75th Writers Guild of America Awards will conclude the guild season (and a four-guild kudos weekend). Will they portend good things to come at the Oscars for the winners?
“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” written by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, and “Women Talking,” written by Sarah Polley, are projected to win the Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay prizes, respectively. The caveat, of course, is that neither is facing its top Oscar competition at WGA due to the guild’s eligibility requirements. Martin McDonagh‘s “The Banshees of Inisherin” script, which won the Golden Globe and BAFTA, is Awol in original, as is Oscar nominee “Triangle of Sadness.” And BAFTA’s adapted screenplay champ “All Quiet on the Western Front,” written by Edward Berger, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell, is ineligible, along with Oscar nominee “Living.”

All of the cast members announced for the HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films) up to this point have been for female roles – which makes sense, since the show is going to be about “a mysterious order of women”. But now Deadline has broken the news that the show does have a male lead among its characters, and that role is going to be played by Travis Fimmel (Raised by Wolves).
Diane Ademu-John, who previously worked on The Haunting of Bly Manor at Netflix, Empire at Fox, The Originals and The Vampire Diaries at The CW, and Medium and Crossing Jordan at NBC, is the showrunner on Dune: The Sisterhood. Watson plays Valya Harkonnen, with Henderson starring as Tula Harkonnen, also known as the Harkonnen Sisters. Together, these women have risen to power in the Sisterhood, a secret organization of women who will ascend to become the Bene Gesserit.

When the creatives behind Apple TV+’s singular sci-fi drama Severance stopped by Comic-Con on Thursday, they offered little in the way of hints as to Season 2 story, honing in instead on the assorted challenges of bringing the breakout series to life.
The first challenge to grapple with—both on the page and on set—was one of tone. During the conversation moderated by actor Patton Oswalt, creator-writer Dan Erickson noted that as singularly strange as Severance did wind up being, the original pilot script was even “more acid trip-y”—featuring, for example, a pair of disembodied legs running down one of the show’s long white hallways. And it was elements like this that would eventually need to be pared back.
One major challenge, for Severance‘s actors, was to carefully calibrate their performances with tone in mind—grappling correctly, to start, with the world-building show’s strange dialogue.

The “Severance” team is hard at work writing Season 2 of the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ drama — so hard at work that they need to avoid fan theories in order to properly carry out the task of telling the Innies and Outies of the second season as they envision them.
“I was warned not to go on Reddit, on the subreddit for this show, at all. And I held off for about six minutes and then I went on and I was just on it every day. It’s kind of addicting,” “Severance” creator Dan Erickson said during the show’s Comic-Con panel Thursday.
“Sometimes they have ideas that are better than what I thought of,” he added with a laugh. “But eventually I had to pull back from that, because as we’ve gotten more into writing Season 2 in recent weeks, it’s that thing of infinite options.” Erickson loves “Severance” fans’ takes,...

The “Dune” prequel series at HBO Max has brought Johan Renck onboard to direct the first two episodes.
Renck will also serve as an executive producer on the show, currently titled “Dune: The Sisterhood.” It was ordered straight-to-series at HBO Max in June 2019. Previously, “Dune” director and co-writer Denis Villeneuve was attached to direct the pilot for “Dune: The Sisterhood,” but his work on the “Dune” sequel film will prevent him from doing so.
The show is set 10,000 years prior to the events of “Dune” and follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.
Renck won two Emmys for his work on the critically-acclaimed HBO limited series “Chernobyl” — one as an executive producer when the show won best limited series and another for best directing for a limited series, as he directed all five episodes.

Johan Renck, the Emmy Award-winner behind HBO series Chernobyl, is to direct the first two episodes of Dune: The Sisterhood (w/t).
The series, which serves as a prequel to the films, was originally handed a straight-to-series order in 2019 by HBO Max. At the time, Denis Villenueve, who directed and produced 2021 film Dune: Part One, was set to direct the pilot.
However, Renck, who is currently finishing up sci-fi feature film Spaceman with Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano, will take over that mantle and will also exec produce.
Renck began his career in music videos, including David Bowie’s final two videos for Blackstar and Lazarus. He has directed pilots for series including Vikings and Bloodline as well as episodes of Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. He also directed all episodes of Sky series The Last Panthers featuring John Hurt and Samantha Morton.

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers for the finale of “Dispatches From Elsewhere.”)
As the spooky, surprise-filled ride that was Jason Segel’s “Dispatches From Elsewhere” came to an end for viewers last month with a finale that actually incorporated some of those viewers. The final moments of the AMC series closed with a compilation of more than 100 self-recorded videos featuring people saying a crucial line from the show: “I am [insert name here], and I am you.”
Now the way Segel and the “Dispatches” team got these clips — made by people who did not originally know that they were going to be used in the show — was in true “Dispatches” fashion: through an alternate reality game (Arg).
“From when the show was greenlit, Jason already had this in his head that he wanted to sort of share the experience that he had when he came up with the show when he first encountered this game,...

How Jason Segel Reconciled 2 Parts of Himself With That Very Meta ‘Dispatches From Elsewhere’ Finale
(Warning: This post contains major spoilers for the “Dispatches From Elsewhere” finale.)
Jason Segel ended up quite literally becoming himself with the final “spooky and surprises”-filled episode of his AMC limited series “Dispatches From Elsewhere.”
During the trippy drama’s finale, which aired Monday, Segel was no longer playing Peter — the character we’d come to know and love over the first nine episodes — but portraying a very true-to-real-life version of himself, an actor fans have come to know and love over the last two decades.
This transformation from Peter to Jason happened via a young Clown Boy who came to lead Peter away from “Team Blue” — comprised of his girlfriend Simone (Eve Lindley) and good friends Janice (Sally Field) and Fredwynn (Andre Benjamin) — to give viewers yet another big reveal in a show that’s been packed with twists from the start: the story you’ve been watching...

The mysteries continue on the penultimate episode of Jason Segel’s “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” as Janice and Simone discuss why Simone’s relationship with Peter didn’t work out and come to find Peter not being “ready” wasn’t their only obstacle.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from Monday’s episode, titled “The Creator,” Janice (Sally Field) and Simone (Eve Lindley) have a heart-to-heart chat about what could have been between Simone and Peter (Segel), who seemingly fell in love while playing the “game” they now know to be fake — or is it? — but couldn’t survive beyond one date in the real world.
“You two seemed so good together,” Janice says to Simone, as the two take a walk.
