A memory jogged by a teapot from an old lover quickly turns into an adventure of discovery for Mary Beth Higgins (Constance Brenneman) and her newfound friend Wanda (Cathy DeBuono) as they hit the road in Wanda's soup truck. If that sounds like the set-up for a madcap comedy, that is to do it an injustice. Also, to miss the point.
Along Came Wanda does have its madcap moments, many delivered by Wanda herself in her role as 'disruptive element'. However, it truly is a lot more thoughtful than that. Also, a bit New Age, a bit late hippy.
It has its comedy moments: but mostly it is about the Journey, with a capital 'J'. First, there is the literal journey, as Mary Beth is on the verge of finalising her divorce. She needs time to explore her new life post-marriage. How better than on a road trip with Wanda?...

Title: Crazy Bitches Director: Jane Clark Starring: Samantha Colburn, Cathy DeBuono, Andy Gala, Liz McGeever, Victoria Profeta, Guinevere Turner, Nayo Wallace, Mary Jane Wells Can a movie be a tonal train wreck if its narrative never really leaves the station? And is there a baseline qualitative bar a project has to clear in order to qualify as either feminine empowerment or subversion? These and other ancillary questions nag at a viewer during ”Crazy Bitches,” written and directed by Jane Clark. After all, a title like that and a narrative slug-line that promises victims “killed by their own vanity” would seemingly augur some type of pleasantly wink- and nudge-filled genre romp. Alas, this [ Read More ]

“Each one of the girls dies a gruesome death, and the killer takes a trophy … things it turns out each girl was most stuck-up about.”
That’s the premise of this slasher horror-comedy with the pull-no-punches title of Crazy Bitches.
Written and directed by Jane Clark (who previously made the gritty, Lukas Haas drug drama Meth Head), the indie film is set for a debut at the Lgbt festivals Frameline (June 26) and OutFest (July 17).
The story tracks a reunion of former sorority sisters and their “one fab gay guy” friend as they head out for a getaway in a prototypical cabin in the woods.

Jill Bennett and Cathy DeBuono have something in common with Angelina Jolie. Just as "Salt" was originally written for a man, Bennett and DeBuono's Web series, "We Have to Stop Now," was initially written for a heterosexual couple. Bennett and DeBuono, together in real life for more than two and a half years, say they turned to the Web when projects for out lesbians seemed to be drying up. The series, written by theater veteran Ann Noble, is about a couple of therapists who write a book on marriage. It's currently airing its second season, with Season 1 having recently secured distribution through Wolfe Video on DVD. Back Stage caught up with Bennett and DeBuono to discuss creating content when all else fails, balancing acting with producing a Web series, and advice for out actors and couples who work together.Back Stage: What prompted you to turn to the Web...

Riddle me this. What do you get when you combine over 10,000 happy lesbians, daily pool parties, nightly dance parties, and enough alcohol to keep Amy Winehouse occupied for five days? If you answered, "I don't know, but where do I sign up?" you wouldn't be the first. Actually, what you do get is the largest lesbian event in the world: The Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs, California.
The desert extravaganza that's been described as "Lesbian Spring Break" is more than gay girls gone wild. I've been to three Dinah's and can tell you it's not for the weak, the straight, or the easily shocked. You haven't lived until you've seen topless girls hanging off a hotel balcony, swinging a blow up doll and waving to Leisha Hailey.
A new feature length documentary, Out in The Desert, promises an insider's look into, not only the dreamy dykes, debauchery and drama,...

And Then Came Lola is a sugar rush of a lesbian movie.
Starring Ashleigh Sumner, Jill Bennett, and Cathy DeBuono, and directed by Ellen Seidler and Megan Siler, it plays out like a twisty, lighter Run Lola Run with a massive dose of queerness.
Lola (Sumner) is a laid back photographer who’s on the verge of a romantic breakthrough with her new girlfriend, Casey (Bennett), who is the straitlaced Bert to Lola’s Ernie. As the film begins, we witness a fantastic sex scene between the two dissolve into a dream, as Lola’s phone interrupts her reverie. It’s Casey, and she needs Lola to pick up a set of all-important prints for a crucial business meeting with Danielle (DeBuono), who also happens to be Casey’s ex-girlfriend.
Lola runs out the door — quite literally — and encounters a tragic-comedy of obstacles keeping her from being punctual the one time she needs to be.
