As far as investigators go, Jim Rockford (James Garner) is a bit of a departure from the mostly-polished (Columbo excepted) detectives of television's first decade. A slouchily dressed detective who lived in a trailer and served time in San Quentin, Rockford was cool — if not always collected. "The Rockford Files" ran for six seasons on NBC beginning in 1974 and was later resurrected for a series of '90s TV movies. In that time, audiences were introduced not only to Rockford, but to a cast of supporting characters including his truck driver dad Rocky (Noah Beery Jr.), LAPD pal Becker (Joe Santos), and the con artist Angel (Stuart Margolin).
Garner passed away in 2014, and only a few "Rockford Files" castmates are still with us today. Those who are still around include notable recurring guest stars like famously mustachioed "Blue Bloods" star Tom Selleck, Egot-winning multi-hyphenate Rita Moreno, and "Happy Gilmore" director...

Nicolas Cage has well and truly become one of those bankable stars once again. Don’t get me wrong though I don’t mean bankable as in he can bring in the box office dollars, I simply mean that you can always bank on going into a Nicolas Cage movie with little to no clue what kind of performance he is about to put in or even what the hell type of flick your about to watch. I mean seriously, the last three Cage movies I have watched saw him go from being a master Jiu Jitsu alien fighting badass; to a janitor; to a pig-owning chef. Nobody checks boxes quite like our man Nic Cage!
All of a sudden though people...

Neon has released the trailer for “Pig,” which follows Nicolas Cage on a rescue mission to find his swine friend.
Cage’s character, Rob, is a truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregonian wilderness and enlists the help of a truffle salesman (Alex Wolff) to search for his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped.
While speaking to Variety’s Marc Malkin on the “Just for Variety” podcast, Wolff said that Cage became one of his “best friends” and “one of the most loyal people in my life” after working on “Pig” together.
“We talk almost every few days,” he said. “We text all day and he FaceTimed me like two days ago, and we really support each other and help each other with things. We started making the movie when we were both going through very similar personal things in our life and we bonded over it immediately...

"I'm looking for a truffle pig. Someone stole her." Neon has unveiled a trailer for the highly anticipated new Nicolas Cage movie titled Pig, which has been on the schedule for a while but hasn't premiered just yet. The film follows a truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregonian wilderness who must return to his past in Portland in search of his beloved foraging pig after she's kidnapped. Pig is directed by Michael Sarnoski and stars Nicolas Cage, Alex Wolff, Adam Arkin, and Gretchen Corbett. The Italians usually use dogs for hunting truffles in Alba, but pigs are also just as common and have great noses, too. This looks like Nicolas Cage as a vegan John Wick getting back at the bastards who stole his prized truffle pig. Take them down!! This looks especially gnarly, and I can't wait to see it. I love how soft this trailer is,...

Nicolas Cage is a truffle hunter on a mission to find his missing pig in the first trailer for Michael Sarnoski’s “Pig.” The film is being released stateside by Neon and co-stars Alex Wolff, Adam Arkin, and Gretchen Corbett. Cage produced the film alongside Pulse Films, BlockBox Entertainment, Valparaiso Pictures, and Cage’s Saturn Pictures. “Pig” was filmed in fall 2019 but the movie’s release was on an extended hiatus due to the pandemic. Neon is releasing the film this coming July. The script is based on a story by Sarnoski and Vanessa Block, who is also a producer on “Pig.”
The film’s synopsis from Variety reads: “Cage stars as a reclusive truffle hunter in Oregon whose prize hunting pig is kidnapped, forcing him to return to old stomping grounds in Portland and confront his past.”
“What began as a very personal project has transformed into a labor...

Here we are in the thick of summer, and I haven’t even tackled the most sacred of small screen horror, the apex of ‘70s paranoia, the invasion of killer African bees! Boy oh boy did this one gain some traction in the decade, with at least four films (big and small) feeding off this particular frenzy. The Savage Bees (1976) proved so successful for NBC that they came out with a sequel two years later; but people will remember this one for its strong performances, solid science (I guess), and bonkers ending.
Originally airing on Monday, November 22nd as the NBC Monday Night at the Movies, The Savage Bees was up against The ABC Monday Night Movie while CBS trotted out Maude/All’s Fair/The Andros Targets. As I’ve only heard of one show in CBS’ lineup one can assume that the Peacock rustled all the feathers that night.

Animal horror was big in the 1970s, and it’s not just the fault of Jaws. Environmental concerns carrying over from the previous decade were seeping into the American consciousness and, by extension, the American genre film.
Pesticides, pollution and ever-increasing concerns about nuclear power funneled their way into a slew of eco-horror movies in which mankind’s incessant tampering with the environment led Mother Nature to retaliate in the form killer animals, insects and fish, often mutated to gigantic size and always ready to kill. Titles like Grizzly and Night of the Lepus and Kingdom of the Spiders and The Swarm were de rigueur for ‘70s horror, and while the genre has never really gone away — every year sees a few new killer animal films (and that’s not counting the SyFy Channel nonsense like Crocosaurus) — it reached its zenith during that decade. Now as part of their Summer of Fear,...

Earlier this week, Scream Factory revealed they are releasing The Food of the Gods and Frogs next summer, and now the distributor has horror hounds looking forward to a creature feature season when school lets out, as four more titles have been brought onto the Blu-ray docket, pitting humans against a prehistoric reptile, a mutated octopus, killer ants, and a devilish king cobra.
From Scream Factory: “Since our announcement earlier this week of our double-bill of Food Of The Gods & Frogs went over so well with the majority, we thought it would be exciting/surprising if we followed it up and revealed Four more “Animal-Creature attack” films coming sometime next Summer for the first time on the blu-ray format! So without further ado…

TV series remakes aren't typically very successful, and NBC's planned redo of The Rockford Files is facing a really big critic in Tom Selleck. Meanwhile, NBC keeps forging ahead with casting the pilot.
The Rockford Files originally ran on NBC for six seasons back in the 1970s, until star James Garner was so physically exhausted that he had to leave the show. He starred as Jim Rockford, a private detective who didn't see himself as a hero, and seemed to be looking more for the money than the glory. His costars on the show are Noah Beery Jr. and Joe Santos, while Stuart Margolin, Gretchen Corbett, James Luisi, Tom Atkins, Bop Hopkins, Pat Finley, Isaac Hayes, and one Mr. Tom Selleck play recurring characters.

It looks like NBC has found their Jim Rockford for their remake of the 1970s TV show. Actor Dermot Mulroney has been signed to follow in the footsteps of James Garner.
The Rockford Files ran for six seasons on NBC, from 1974 until 1980. James Garner stars as Jim Rockford, a private detective who's more interested in getting paid and staying out of trouble than being a hero. Of course, he usually ends up doing do the right thing. Costars include Noah Beery Jr. and Joe Santos. Recurring characters are played by Stuart Margolin, Gretchen Corbett, James Luisi, Tom Atkins, Bo Hopkins, Pat Finley, and Isaac Hayes.
The original series stopped in 1979 in part because Garner was physically exhausted from the grind of the show. That didn't stop him however from reprising the role in eight TV movies in the 1990s for CBS.
