The Bau is in the last position any of these agents want to be in on Criminal Minds: Evolution this season: having to rely on serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) for what he says he knows about their current UnSub, known as Gold Star. But they must speak with him, and try to figure out how much he says is true. The hope? Maybe one of the members of the team can get him to slip up. They’ll have ample opportunities. Below, the cast and showrunner Erica Messer share some teases about what’s coming up with that and more as Season 17 continues. The Bau vs. Voit With the team having to use Voit, so far, as the second episode showed, they’ve been going to see him one at a time. Prentiss (Paget Brewster) will get some on-on-one time with him as well, according to Messer, ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 Episodes 1 “Gold Star” and 2 “Contagion.”] Just because the Bau has to work with serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) to catch another elusive UnSub, Gold Star, doesn’t mean they have to like it. But as much as the profilers would love to be the cats in this game, he’s able to toy with them like mice in the first two episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17—and no one more than Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez). After Voit refuses to talk to JJ (A.J. Cook) anymore, it’s Luke’s turn to visit him in prison, and the play is for the agent to pretend to be scared of him, to give him the illusion of power and control. Voit wonders if it bugs him that his entire team is smarter than he is, and off JJ in his ear telling him to pretend his ego is ...

The Bau is coming back for more: Criminal Minds: Evolution has been renewed for another season. This news comes just ahead of the Paramount+ drama returning for its 17th season (the third of the revival) on Thursday, June 6 with two episodes. (The rest of the season will drop weekly.) Paramount+ is keeping Criminal Minds: Evolution on the case for another season.
The streamer has ordered a third season of the drama, a continuation of CBS’ long-running Criminal Minds that features much of the original show’s cast and is headed by longtime showrunner Erica Messer. The renewal comes a day before Evolution’s second season premiere.
The show’s second season (and 17th in the main Criminal Minds franchise) begins shortly after the events of the season one finale (though in the real world, it’s been 16 months since it last aired), with the Bau team investigating what (or who) the mysterious Gold Star is. “As the conspiracy unfolds,” the season two logline reads, “the Bau is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the Bau’s own backyard. When Criminal Minds: Evolution returns for Season 17, it will be doing so without one of its long-time recurring stars. In January, Josh Stewart, who has recurred since debuting in the original run’s second season, wrote on social media that his “days of playing Will Lamontagne Jr. are over.” But how will the show address the absence of JJ’s (A.J. Cook) husband, especially considering how much we saw of them at home together in the first season of the revival? TV Insider asked showrunner Erica Messer just that. “Yeah, we really enjoyed that run last season and then this season again, because it’s only two weeks from last season and it’s sort of a bullet train of a year, we know that he’s on an assignment, just like there’s always another case, just like we always have another case,” Messer explains. “So we’re not...

When Criminal Minds continued with Evolution two years after the original run ended after 15 seasons, it did so with nearly every actor from the series finale: Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), A.J. Cook (Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez), and Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss). Scheduling didn’t work for Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney to reprise their roles as Dr. Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons. But will that change in Season 17? There has been at least one sign pointing to a possible return from Gubler: a photo of Spencer Reid’s nameplate on a desk in a photo shared on Mantegna’s Instagram story (see below). So TV Insider turned to showrunner Erica Messer for answers. As it turns out, unfortunately, we will not be seeing Gubler this season. Joe Mantegna/Instagram “It never worked out for Season 16 and...

Jason Gideon leads one of the best behavioral units in the world. Together they help other FBI teams identify serial killers using psychological profiles. When all the evidence leads to a dead end, Gideon's team, made up of people with very different personalities, goes in search of almost invisible clues.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is poised to be another thrilling season of the successful reboot.
Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for the next chapter of the hit original series, and it looks like the Bau will be pushed to the limit to keep everyone safe.
In the wake of last season’s shocking finale, Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 finds the profilers investigating the deadly mystery of Gold Star.
“As the conspiracy unfolds, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the Bau’s own backyard,” the logline teases.
“The team faces its biggest threat yet and cannot emerge unscathed from the mind-bending consequences.”

The Evolution has just begun. Criminal Minds: Evolution will be back with new faces for its second season — and the 17th Criminal Minds season if you will — on June 6. As Season 2 starts, the Bau team — Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook), Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler), and Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) — is investigating the Gold Star mystery while dealing with the reappearance of Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), the Season 1 antagonist who organized a network of serial killers. Clark Gregg, best known for his starring role in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will play FBI Director Ray Madison in Season 2, according to TVLine. In the new season’s storyline, Madison has brokered a deal to have Voit assist the Bau, following the latter man’s transfer to federal custody. In the teaser below, Voit chuckles as he comes face...

Criminal Minds fans have something to celebrate this week. Paramount+ has confirmed the wildly popular spinoff, Criminal Minds Evolution will be back with all new episodes before we know it. Prentiss, JJ, Garcia & Co will be back in action on the streaming giant this spring. Here’s everything we know so far, Criminal Minds spoilers ahead.
Criminal Minds Evolution debuted on the Paramount streaming giant in early 2022. The spinoff followed the original series, which ended on CBS in 2020. Unlike a lot of today’s spinoffs and reboots, Evolution (also referred to as Criminal Minds Season 16) featured a lot of the original cast members, which is why critics believe it did so well for a reboot.
Criminal Minds – New Episodes Coming Soon!
Fan faves Joe Mantegna, Aj Cook, Paget Brewster, and Kristen Vangsness all returned as members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

We have big news for fans of the Criminal Minds franchise.
Paramount+ announced today that new episodes of its spinoff/reboot series Criminal Minds: Evolution are set to premiere on June 6.
The streamer has also released teaser art, first-look images, and a description of what we can expect from the series.
Evolution was renewed for a second season way back in January of 2023.
But like just about every other project of the past year, its production timeline was pushed back in response to the writer and actors' guild strikes.
"The 10-episode new season will premiere on Thursday, June 6, exclusively on Paramount+. The first two episodes will be available to stream at launch with subsequent new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays," reads a press release issued today.

In early 2024, the cast and crew of Criminal Minds: Evolution have finally begun the active phase of production, and filming has been quietly underway for months. So far, not much is known about the upcoming Season 2, except for the core cast members.
Nevertheless, Paramount never stops teasing us with new updates that, despite their lightheartedness, actually provide a lot of interesting details that fans actively start speculating about. For example, a new set video featuring the cast of Evolution was recently released, and despite its playful tone, the video was surprisingly insightful. It showed us the return of a rather controversial character who is sure to cause a lot of drama at Bau.

Paramount has rebooted Criminal Minds, and starting in November 2022, we were once again immersed in the story of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) agents as they grappled with criminal minds and personal lives. Now, the story has taken an even darker turn, it has been released in a streaming format rather than the traditional TV broadcast one, and the show itself has been subtitled as Evolution. And before we knew it, a new season was already in production (the second season of Evolution and the seventeenth since Criminal Minds premiered on CBS in 2005).
While fans wait in anticipation, the upcoming Season 17 has already had its fair share of details and speculation. Josh Stewart, who has played Will Lamontagne Jr. since Season 2, will be leaving the show, while many are sure that everyone's favorite Spencer Reid will be back, as Matthew Gray Gubler's schedule has finally been cleared, and the...

The Bau is getting an assist from a Desperate Housewives alum.
TVLine reports that Felicity Huffman has closed a deal to guest star during Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2, and her character has ties to the original series.
Huffman is playing Dr. Jill Gideon, described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist who winds up helping the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory.”
If that surname sounds familiar, it’s because she’s the wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), so she has plenty of ties to the team.
Jill isn’t too fond of getting involved with the Bau because of her past, which concludes a “complicated history” with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna).
However, her expertise is needed because the team is struggling to crack open the Gold Star mystery.

Felicity Huffman is joining “Criminal Minds: Evolution” as a brilliant doctor.
Variety reports that the “Desperate Housewives” actress is joining the Season 2 cast of Paramount+’s serialized revival of the long-running CBS crime procedural.
Huffman will guest star as Dr. Jill Gideon. Gideon is described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist.” She’s the ex-wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), the former leader of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. She has a complicated history with her late ex-husband and his Bau successor David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), which makes her reluctant to get involved with the team’s investigation into the murderous and mysterious Gold Star conspiracy. But her skills could be the key to cracking the case, so she agrees to help.
Season 2 of “Criminal Minds: Evolution” is currently in production. The cast includes A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, Ryan-James Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster.

Felicity Huffman will play a ghost from the past in season two of Criminal Minds: Evolution on Paramount+.
The Desperate Housewives alum will guest star as Dr. Jill Gideon, a brilliant biological psychiatrist who also happens to be the ex-wife of Mandy Patinkin’s Jason Gideon from the early years of Criminal Minds.
Though she agrees to help the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory, Jill is reluctant to return to the bureau’s elite team given her complicated history. She soon realizes, however, that her specific skill set could help them uncover another clue to the elusive Gold Star mystery.
Viewers never met Gideon’s wife in the years that Patinkin played him on Criminal Minds. Patinkin left the CBS show after 47 episodes; his character was killed offscreen by an UnSub.

Felicity Huffman has booked a promising role in an upcoming major series: The actress will be a guest star in the next season of Paramount+’s Criminal Minds spinoff Evolution, playing a doctor with deep connections to other lead characters in the franchise.
The role marks the first major network new series opportunity for the Emmy-winning former Desperate Housewives star since her role in a college admissions scandal broke in 2019 (Huffman was previously set to star in a spinoff of The Good Doctor, but last year ABC passed on making it).

Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster was looking like a mainstay on the series before her departure in season seven. The actor once set the record straight on the real reason she left the series.

At the time, many were surprised by Brewster’s exit from Criminal Minds. She was brought on board the team during the show’s second season as agent Emily Prentiss. Brewster seemed poised to become as much of a constant presence on the show as Shemar Moore and some of the other co-stars. But she, along with her Criminal Minds co-star A.J. Cook, were let go from the show.
Speaking with Assignment X, Brewster confided that those behind the series simply wanted to shake up the show. They felt reducing Brewster’s role would’ve added some spontaneity, which Brewster felt was a mistake.

Shemar Moore has had an impressive career, starring in The Young and the Restless and, most recently, S.W.A.T.
With the latter ending its seven-season run this year, the talented actor is opening up about his next move.
Naturally, there are questions about whether he would return to Criminal Minds, where he played Special Agent Derek Morgan for 11 seasons as a series regular and two as a special guest.
Speaking with TV Insider about the final season of S.W.A.T., Moore revealed that an invitation is all he’s waiting for to sign up for an encore.
“I never forget where I came from,” he affirmed, citing his multiple past returns to The Young and the Restless and Criminal Minds.
Moore said his schedule is crazy, so he and the producers must “get creative” to make the magic happen.

Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, Paget Brewster, and Zach Gilford. Green is a former military intelligence officer who served two tours in Afghanistan. However, after several reprimands for drug use and refusal to follow orders, he was dishonorably discharged after posting videos of the aftermath of drone strikes online. In previous episodes, viewers learned that Green’s sister went missing, and he eventually determined she was killed by a serial killer known as Sicarius. Green later infiltrated the serial killer network created by Elias Voit (Gilford) to...

Criminal Minds: Evolution fans apparently will be saying goodbye to longtime cast member Josh Stewart. The actor today posted on X (fka Twitter) that “sadly, my days of playing Will Lamontagne Jr. are over,” adding “You guys have been the absolute best.”
Stewart first appeared as a recurring on the original CBS drama Criminal Minds in Season 2 as Nopd detective William Lamontagne Jr. He went on to appear on at least one episode each season. In the two-part Season 7 finale, Will wed Special Agent J.J. Jareau (A.J. Cook). He appeared in nine out of 10 episodes in Evolution’s first season, revealing to J.J. at one point that he was concerned he had cancer.
“It’s based on a true-life illness that we wanted to honor,” showrunner Erica Messer told Deadline’s sister pub TVLine in a previous interview. “We wanted to plant that seed now.” She went on to say,...

Is it bad that our first thought upon reading which recurring cast member we won’t see again on Criminal Minds: Evolution was to a storyline in the original run’s final season? Production on the new season began on January 16, but someone who won’t be seen in any behind-the-scenes content from set (Kirsten Vangsness shared a video on Instagram) is Josh Stewart, who has recurred as Will Lamontagne Jr., who started out as a detective the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) worked with on a case and eventually became JJ’s (A.J. Cook) husband, will not be back. A fan asked him on X if he would be in the new season, and in reply, he wrote, “No sadly, my days of playing Will Lamontagne Jr. are over. You guys have been the absolute best.” (TV Insider has reached out to Paramount+ for comment.) Our second thought: maybe that...

We've been clamoring for more Criminal Minds since Criminal Minds Evolution Season 1 left us gasping due to its shocking revelations.
Despite scoring a speedy renewal, the long-running drama that morphed into a streaming series a year ago hasn't yet entered production.
Earlier this year, there was word that filming would begin imminently, so fresh episodes were on the air for fans quickly.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes brought Hollywood to a standstill, meaning no new episodes could be produced.
Recently, both guilds reached deals with the AMPTP to fairly compensate writers and actors for their work, clearing the way for production to get underway.
Paget Brewster took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to respond to a fan to give some updates about the show and it's good news.
