Alba
Alba was being mounted back in September of 2019 and yet with no other developments we thought this was still in development so you can imagine our surprise to see the project listed as in post. Dating back to 1992’s Orlando with Tilda Swinton, Sally Potter‘s has pretty much checked off all the boxes in her lengthy career premiering at every major film fest and working with acting royalty. Berlin has been a home base for several of her most recent features including The Roads Not Taken and apparently Javier Bardem and Elle Fanning would have possibly been attached to a project which went into production with an Austin, Texas based Brexit-inspired comedy with cinematographer Robbie Ryan and production designer Carlos Conti on board.…...

A suicidal It specialist and a blind archivist help a dying woman find the child she gave up for adoption in French director Albert Dupontel’s “Adieu les cons,” rechristened “Bye Bye Morons” in the U.S.. If you’re wondering how the iconoclastic Dupontel would incorporate such a trio into a comedy, drama, satire or farce, therein lies the issue: “Bye Bye Morons” tries to be all four of those genres at once, often to its detriment.
The visually inventive helmer, whose films are frequently based on dark and provocative ideas, again uses his anti-authoritarian streak as a blunt instrument, creating a frenetic and labored work that’s long on half-explored themes and short on laughs. That said, Gallic audiences thoroughly embraced the film, which opened days after the first Covid-19 curfew shut down a handful of major French cities in October 2020. Chicago – One of most important counterculture novels in American literature history is “On the Road,” by Jack Kerouac. First published in 1957, the film rights were purchased at the time, but it took over fifty more years to get it onto the screen. Director Walter Salles (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) took on the adaptation.
The history of adapting the book to film is as much of a journey as the characters take in the story. After late 1950s Hollywood couldn’t interpret the radical morality in the book (Marlon Brando was attached to play the lead role at one point), and the rights were reacquired by Francis Ford Coppola in the late 1970s. Problems with several screenplay versions occurred, and it wasn’t until the mid-2000s that the team that produced “The Motorcycle Diaries” – screenwriter Jose Rivera and director Walter Salles – took their own journey with the classic novel, and the...
