Released last year, Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre operated as a sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original classic, with Mark Burnham playing an older version of Leatherface. Shown off at San Diego Comic-Con this week, Hiya Toys is giving that particular iteration of the slasher icon his first action figures, with a few different toys based on the movie coming soon.
First up, Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s Leatherface is getting a mini-sized 1/18 scale action figure as part of Hiya’s “Exquisite Mini” line, which measures just 4.72″ tall and features an impressive 15 points of articulation. As you may recall, this toy was actually first shown off last year, but the planned April 2023 release date was ultimately shifted back a little bit.
Leatherface from the Netflix movie is also getting a bloody variant of the “Exquisite Mini” figure, which features Melody’s decapitated head from the movie’s bloody final moments!

In the grand old splattered hallways of slasher horror movies, few franchises are as up and down and all around as that of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Since Tobe Hooper terrified us back in 1974 with, what is still, one of the greatest and most terrifying, raw and sadistic horror films ever made, there have been numerous attempts to match this landmark original.
Some have drawn cult fandom, some continue to fiercely divide (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation), some are just plain terrible (2017’s Leatherface) or meh (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3: Leatherface) and some are rather underrated if very flawed attempts at taking the lore elsewhere while remaining somewhat true (Texas Chainsaw 3D). But now, ol’ Leatherface faces his next challenge, and most frightening…social media!

The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a movie that was based on the build-up of tension, until it became unbearable for the audience, with an explosion of violence that many don’t forget. Made in 1974, it has had sequels, been remade in many forms through the years and Netflix are the latest to give an attempt to revamp the series with a follow up to the original. The question is, does it live up to the original?

“Texas Chainsaw Massacre” cinematographer Ricardo Diaz knew he would pay homage to the original film while working on the 2022 sequel. Teaming with director David Blue Garcia and Mark Burnham, who plays the iconic movie slasher, Diaz took on recreating Leatherface’s famous dance… in one take.
Diaz spoke with Variety about pulling off that feat in “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” offering insight into the horror film’s cinematography.
What it was like shooting the iconic Leatherface dance, and how did you execute it in one take?
David Blue Garcia and I have a shorthand because of our years-long friendship — we went to film school together — and he also came up in the business as a cinematographer. We essentially speak the same language both technically and artistically. So, collaborating with him was so effortless. Having both come up in independent film, we were also uniquely able to work quickly and create on our feet,...

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is an odd one. There’s about four different timelines despite not that many movies, and although the quality has actually been good (for the most part), none have really got close to the sheer sense of terror that the first movie delivered. As always though, I was very much excited to see the latest movie.
This one is a direct sequel to the original movie and not linked to any other sequels that came before it. A new timeline altogether set in present-day almost fifty years after the original as Leatherface is once again disrupted by a new group of young friends and is soon getting to...

In 1974, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” emerged as one of the most influential slasher movies of all time, and Leatherface entered the pantheon of horror villain greats. After the whopping success of Tobe Hooper’s original, seven films have continued its legacy of haunted houses, cannibal families, and yes, lots of chainsaws.
Feb. 18 marks the arrival of another installment, which is a direct sequel to the 1974 original. Directed by David Blue Garcia and scripted by Chris Thomas Devlin, the story picks up 50 years after Sally Hardesty was the sole survivor of a murder spree carried out by Leatherface and his bloodthirsty family. Melody (Sarah Yarkin) and her younger sister Lila (Elsie Fisher) show up to a remote Texas town hoping to turn it into a haven for young influencers and entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, Harlow also happens to be the hometown of Leatherface (Mark Burnham). When he begins terrorizing the new townsfolk, Sally...

“Texas Chainsaw Massacre” — not to be confused with “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” (1972) or “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (2003) — is the ninth film in the nearly 50-year-old “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” series. It’s also at least the fourth “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2,” and at least the third “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2” that ignores all the other sequels.
Canon? What’s canon? Canon got shot out of a cannon, and into some chain saws. Or, as this franchise sometimes likes to spell them, “chainsaws.”
All you need to know going into David Blue Garcia’s latest installment is that way back in the 1970s, a group of young travelers took a pitstop at the Sawyer family residence, and all but one of them were brutally murdered by that family of cannibals. The only surviving victim, Sally Hardesty, became a Texas Ranger who hunted elusive serial killer Leatherface for decades, but dang it, she never found the guy.

‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Review: Not Even Leatherface Can Rev Up This Thoughtless Modernized Sequel
When I think of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, gentrification, social media and capitalism are not the words that come to mind. However, director David Blue Garcia and screenplay scribe Chris Thomas Delvin decided to bring all of these elements together to create the first entry on my worst-of-the year-list.
This logic-free film stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher and Mark Burnham as the Leatherface slasher. The actors try their best to navigate an unfortunate script, but nothing can save this Netflix movie from caving under the weight of its irrationality.
Three self-righteous Austin entrepreneurs, Dante (Jacob Latimore), Ruth (Nell Hudson) and Melody (Yarkin), and her kid sister Lila (Fisher) travel to Harlow, Texas, in hopes of fulfilling their dream of creating a workspace environment. These people are well aware of the town’s history, but since it’s a relative ghost town, and Leatherface (Burnham) hasn’t killed in years, they...

In David Blue Garcia’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), old man Leatherface (played by Lowlife’s Mark Burnham) squares off against a group of gentrifying Gen Zers who set out to rejuvenate a dying small town in Texas, not realizing their idealistic plans are about to be thwarted by a gruesome generational clash that results in a ton of chainsaw-related carnage and endless bloodshed. But before Texas’ most notorious face-wearing cannibal sets these twentysomethings straight, a blast from his past in the form of Sally Hardesty arrives for a showdown nearly five decades in the making.
When it comes to the Texas Chainsaw movies, this is a franchise where I generally keep my expectations pretty low, as I’m not nearly as emotionally connected to this series the way I am with others. So generally, when it comes to the “worst” TCM movie, I’m still always entertained to some degree...

This Friday, February 18th, Leatherface (played by Mark Burnham) returns in David Blue Garcia’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) which is set to debut exclusively on Netflix’s streaming platform. Written by Chris Thomas Devlin (with a story by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues), this latest Texas Chainsaw follows a group of well-meaning Gen Z folks from Austin who head out to a desolate town in hopes of transforming it into their own little utopia, not realizing that they are about to evoke the wrath of a certain chainsaw-wielding madman who has no patience for their modern-day shenanigans.
During a recent press day for Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Sarah Yarkin who plays Melody in the film, one of the main Gen Zers who is leading the charge in this small-town rejuvenation that ends up becoming one of Leatherface’s primary targets. Some weeks it seems like the streamers really are catering to every demographic. How else can you explain a single week that sees both the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” franchises making long overdue returns? There’s also a new Adam Scott show that makes returning to the office an even creepier experience, a dramatic retelling of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and animated adventures starring Mickey Mouse and Cuphead. See? Every demographic dutifully covered.

Netflix has launched the trailer for the upcoming sequel to the iconic horror film ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre.’
Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. But their dream soon turns into a waking nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer whose blood-soaked legacy continues to haunt the area’s residents — including Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the sole survivor of his infamous 1973 massacre who’s hell-bent on seeking revenge.

Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Jacob Latimore, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, Jessica Allain and Nell Hudson co-star while John Larroquette is returning as the narrator as he did on the 1974 and 2003 films.

"50 years I've been waiting for this night... just to see him again." Netflix has fired up the gnarly official trailer for their new Texas Chain Saw Massacre film. It's officially titled Texas Chainsaw Massacre and will be streaming on Netflix starting this February. After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends that accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town. Much like last year's Ghostbusters, this skips everything else and it plays as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's original 1974 Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Leatherface only gets angry when people come home. This sequel stars Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope, Jolyon Coy. Damn this looks brutal! The bus scene is going to be insane. Lots of blood and gore in here - watch out.

Netflix has released the first trailer for the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie, which brings the iconic horror villain Leatherface squarely into the 2020s.
The film – which hits Netflix Feb. 18 — is a sequel to the original 1974 film and finds a survivor from those original murders seeking vengeance, alongside a group of youngsters who have the misfortune of happening upon Leatherface’s house.
The story is in the vein of other legacy sequels like “Terminator: Dark Fate” and the new “Halloween” that find original characters returning decades later in films that essentially ignore other sequels in the franchise. In the case of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” that includes seven other sequels, reboots and origin prequels over the last four decades.

One of the most impressive directorial debuts I’ve seen so far in 2018 is Ryan Prows’ Lowlife, the viciously entertaining comedic caper that follows a variety of eclectic characters over the course of one day in Los Angeles, including a famed luchador with a temper (Ricardo Adam Zarate), his pregnant wife (Santana Dempsey), a motel owner (Nicki Micheaux) desperate to save her ailing husband, ana a pair of friends (Jon Oswald and Shaye Ogbonna) who see their friendship tested in unusual ways, with mob boss Teddy “Bear” Haynes (Mark Burnham) squarely at the center of it all.
Daily Dead caught up with Prows earlier this week, and he discussed the process of putting together the script for Lowlife with the writing collective known as Tomm Fondle (the group includes Tim Cairo, Jake Gibson, Maxwell Michael Towson, Ogbonna, and of course, Prows as well), the difficulties of pitching his wildly surprising crime story,...

“Lowlife” is not the movie you’d expect from a comedy collective making its first feature: While mordantly humorous, this tale of several lives fatefully intertwining in the dank underbelly of Los Angeles plays its violent, over-the-top events in pokerfaced fashion. Though the backtracking, overlapping episodic structure is reminiscent of “Pulp Fiction,” there’s none of the garrulous snark or fanboy winking Tarantino wannabes customarily indulge in. Instead, this team-written effort by L.A.-based crew Tomm Fondle (of which director Ryan Prows is a member) nicely calibrates a twisty course between straight crime melodrama and black comedy, one that has cult-following potential among adventurous genre fans.
The four chaptered narrative sections rewind to offer backstory, and replay specific action, from different perspectives, though there’s little to no actual repetition. The thing that unites virtually all protagonists is that they’re each eventually imperiled by ties to the ruthless...

With a pulpy, non-linear approach to his narrative, co-writer/director Ryan Prows weaves a felonious web with Lowlife, his pitch-black crime comedy that brings together an eclectic crop of characters for an unexpected ride through the sun-drenched streets of Los Angeles through the course of one day. While the film may garner a few Quentin Tarantino comparisons, rest assured that Lowlife confidently marches to the beat of its own unique drum, making this debut feature from Prows one of the most surprising films I’ve seen so far this year.
Lowlife is centered on a rage-fueled Luchador named El Monstruo (Ricardo Adam Zarate), who feels inadequate living in the shadow of his family’s legacy. His penchant for pain makes him the perfect muscle to work for the depraved mob boss Teddy Haynes (Mark Burnham), who dabbles in a bit of everything, from drugs to organ harvesting to sex trafficking.

An insane trailer for a new film has been released for a movie called Lowlife. This thing looks like a wild and wacky dark horror action comedy. It certainly looks entertaining!
The sordid lives of small-time criminals collide when an organ harvesting caper goes very, very wrong. A Mexican wrestler with rage issues, a felon with a regrettable face tattoo, and an ex-junkie in search of a kidney collide in this wild, blood splattered adrenaline rush.
The movie obviously isn't going to be for everyone, but if you're a little on the demented side, you'll probably like what you will see in this trailer.
The movie comes from director Ryan Prows and it stars Nicki Micheaux, Ricardo Adam Zarate, Jon Oswald, Shaye Ogbonna, Santana Dempsey, and Mark Burnham. Lowlife in select theaters + on VOD starting April 6th this spring.

"Father, show me the way as a spirit of justice." IFC Midnight has launched an official trailer for a wacky horror/action comedy titled Lowlife, which first premiered at both the Fantasia Film Festival & FrightFest last year. From director Ryan Prows, this is about the sordid lives of an addict, an ex-con, and a luchador that collide when an organ harvesting caper goes very, very wrong. Starring Nicki Micheaux, Ricardo Adam Zarate, Jon Oswald, Shaye Ogbonna, Santana Dempsey, and Mark Burnham. This looks all kinds of weird and wacky and absurd and crazy, and perhaps fun? I don't even know. Just watch the trailer. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Ryan Prows' Lowlife, direct from IFC's YouTube: The sordid lives of small-time criminals collide when an organ harvesting caper goes very, very wrong. The underbelly of Los Angeles and following characters who are constantly struggling to survive by barely scraping by can feel pretty stale for fans of crime films. The 90’s explored every nook and cranny of this courtesy of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and the films that tried to benefit off its success. On paper, you’d think that in 2017, a film like Lowlife where it follows characters who have some connection would be celebrating its 20th anniversary. Yet, Lowlife is a new film and it is one of my favorite independent films of the year.
I will admit that having a luchador as a character in your film will always grab my curiosity, you still need to have a good film to hold my interest. A luchador named El Monstruo (played brilliantly by Ricardo Adam Zarate), who is not as big as his father or his brothers and therefore...

Great films often come out of nowhere. Such as the case with Lowlife, a thrilling crime caper directed by Ryan Prows. After its world premiere at Fantasia 2017, the director and his team have a very bright future ahead of them indeed. I spoke with him about making an indie film, what it feels like to be called the "next Tarantino," his cast, and more. Check out the trailer after the interview. ScreenAnarchy: You have a cast of veritable unknowns, which is a huge part of what makes Lowlife work. Mark Burnham, in particular, is terrifying. Tell us about why you cast who you did. Ryan Prows: I’d seen Mark in Wrong Cops, and loved his performance and presence in that film. I think...

An ex-junkie, ex-convict, and luchador enter a fish taco shack … the punch line is a three-pronged adventure through Compton while engulfed by the shadow of a lunatic pimp moonlighting as a black market organ wholesaler. Director Ryan Prows and the rest of his quintet of writers (Tim Cairo, Jake Gibson, Shaye Ogbonna, and Maxwell Michael Towson) bring together a menagerie of monsters, fiends, thugs, and criminals all searching for an escape in their violently heart-warming film Lowlife. Full of heinous acts justified by a universal goal to save the ones they love, every eccentrically drawn character earns our sympathy despite the blood spilled by their hands. With their worlds colliding just as each appears ready to implode, a common enemy unites the hope within to reclaim their honor.

Ryan Prows’ Lowlife is a true-to-form sonofabitch. From frame one, the film smacks of Tarantino hoodishness – but sustainability is key. A larger story is divided into chapters, as Prows navigates this messy grey zone where “decent” people merely hope to survive. Lives collide, all connected by a single taco-slinging underworld boss. There’s vibrant character work and a surprising fluidity in jagged narration, but one segment remains the ugly ducking of this cartoonish Barrio calamity. That’s the only thing bogging down Prows’ big-picture vision, and even at that, remaining cinematics do all the talking.
The fun of Lowlife is experiencing scenes as they come at you, so I’ll be brief and spoiler-free. Necessary information is that Teddy “Bear” Haynes (Mark Burnham) is an asshole you don’t want to mess with. El Monstruo (Ricardo Adam Zarate) swears allegiance to his “Jefe,” but finds himself betrayed but pregnant wife...

Mix the insane violence and weaving vignettes of “Pulp Fiction” with the seedy underbelly of “Breaking Bad,” and you have Ryan Prows’ directorial debut, “Lowlife,” a messy but ultimately interesting look a a group of downtrodden individuals who get mixed up in an organ harvesting scheme.
“Lowlife” is broken into four interweaving vignettes that move back and forth through time, slowly revealing different sides to each character, coloring in the story, and tangling them up even tighter into a web of blackmail, deception, kidnapping, and revenge. And the film’s title can certainly be applied to every character in their own right, as each vignette reveals more about their character and the mess they all have found themselves in.
The film opens with an Ice agent pulling off a sketchy, solo raid of a cheap motel at night. Crystal (Nicki Micheaux), the motel owner, tries to step in and save...

Wrong Cops is a film you feel in your organs. Like the Oizo beats that make up the soundtrack, it pulses with the life force of humanity's birthplace. Those primal urges that shape the evolution of mankind: the struggle to survive, the need to create, looking at breasts.Dupieux's latest oddity has had an interesting journey to the screen. It started out as a series of vignettes, the first of which received a quiet debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. Chapter one features Mark Burnham as Duke, a dirty, weed dealing cop, and Marilyn Manson as David Delores Frank, who is Not a street hooker, because prostitution is wrong. The two have a disagreement over what constitutes good music. Hilarity ensues. It is 14...

Writer/director Quentin Dupieux, the man behind Rubber, has given us his most absurdist film yet with Wrong Cops. It is not so much a movie as it is a collection of sketches about crooked cops who are involved in a number of illegal activities. There is a main through line, however, and it involves an innocent bystander who gets accidentally shot by one of the cops. When they try to figure out the best way to get rid of the body, they find that the wounded man proves to be rather useful, even while he’s bleeding to death.
Despite having a low budget and very little time to make Wrong Cops, Dupieux was still able to bring together a strong cast that includes Marilyn Manson (himself a big fan of Rubber), Grace Zabriskie, Ray Wise and Jennifer Blanc. It also reunites him with Mark Burnham (who plays the...

From its wasted cameos (Marilyn Manson as a moody high school outcast; Eric Roberts as a sleazy Hollywood insider) to its witless queer subplots, writer-director Quentin Dupieux's Wrong Cops is a tedious exercise in self-consciously hip lowbrow comedy.
Focused on the shenanigans of a group of crude, corrupt, inept cops, it's a wack riff on Reno 911. When weed-dealing policeman Duke (Mark Burnham), who sells his product camouflaged in the bodies of dead rats, almost kills a man, he recruits desk cop Sunshine (Steve Little) to dispose of the not-quite-dead body.

Director Quentin Dupieux has brought us some interesting weirdness in his career so far, most notably the tale of a psychotic serial-killing tire in Rubber. Moving to the world of ordinarily animate objects, this year brings us Wrong Cops. Based on the first trailer and poster for the film, it looks a bit like Reno 911! on depressants.
Wrong Cops follows Mark Burnham (Wrong) as a bored officer of the law who spends his time selling drugs and harassing a teenager (played, inexplicably, by Marilyn Manson). His fellow police officers are not much better, though I’m having difficulty actually figuring out the plot based on this trailer. Whatever is going on here – a nearly dead man in the trunk of a cop car, something involving a mix tape, a case full of cash, and a bizarre funeral – there’s one thing that I know for sure: I want to see this movie.
