- Dame Lilian Braithwaite was essentially a theatre actress who made few films. Played Ivor Novello's mother in Hitchcock's "Downhill", but few of her other films are of note. Only made one film after 1932 - "A Man About the House". Knighted as a Dame Commander of the British Empire (D.B.E.) by the King for her services to the arts.
