So long, "Weird Desk!"
According to THR, the paranormal "Weird Desk," which was ordered to series just last week, has been shelved by ABC.
ABC's "Weird Desk" -- which centered on a top-secret organization that worked above the office of the president, according to Deadline -- was originally set to air in summer 2013 and would have joined new female-skewing soap "Mistresses" and Canadian cop drama "Rookie Blue."
THR reports that the series' sudden halt is probably due to the fact that that "Weird Desk," written by "Stargate's" Carl Binder and "The Librarian's" David Titcher, couldn't be produced fast enough for a summer premiere while keeping the cost low.
What do you think about "Weird Desk" getting yanked from the schedule so suddenly? Sound off in the comments.

Less than one week after greenlighting a new series to join scripted soap Mistresses on the summer schedule, ABC has shelved paranormal drama Weird Desk, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. It is believed that the decision to halt Weird Desk was due to the inability to fast-track the series to begin production in time for a summer launch and at a lower cost, a significant point for an original show airing in the summer months. The 13-episode hourlong investigative series hailed from Stargate's Carl Binder and The Librarian's David Titcher, with Tom Mazza and Maggie Murphy also executive

Exclusive: That was quick — a week after ABC gave a 13-episode straight-to-series order to paranormal investigation drama Weird Desk, the network has put the project on hold. It will no longer be produced for summer as planned, and its status will be revisited after pilot season. While ABC brass had liked the Weird Desk concept and script for awhile, by the time the project got a green light, it proved hard to get production up and running fast enough for a summer launch while keeping the cost low, an important factor for a summer original series. Additionally, I hear there was concern, at Marvel and internally at ABC, that Weird Desk may be similar to Joss Whedon’s high-profile ABC pilot S.H.I.E.L.D., an offshoot of blockbuster vengers franchise. There is speculation about objections from Marvel, one of Disney Co.’s most prized possessions, to the new project. As a result,...

Aside from “Lost” ABC doesn’t exactly have a stellar track record when it comes to TV shows with a supernatural bent. The Disney-owned network hopes to change that this coming summer with a new paranormal procedural with the peculiar title “Weird Desk”.
Deadline reports that ABC has ordered 13 episodes – forget the pilot, this is going straight to series – of an "X-Files"-ish new series entitled “Weird Desk” from “Stargate” TV scribe Carl Binder and David Titcher, writer of TNT’s The Librarian teleplays.
Based on the alleged real-life mysteries from this world and beyond, it centers on the workings of a clandestine organization rumored to be named “Weird Desk.” Working above the levels of top secret and above the office of the President, the unit is the destination for mysterious intelligence rerouted from the CIA and Nsa. After pulling the plug on short lived supernatural series '666 Park Avenue' it seems ABC are pinning their hopes for the Summer of 2013 on a new and extremely familiar sounding concept. 13 episodes have been ordered for 'Weird Desk', a series revolving around a secret organisation that takes all those 'kooky' cases that are a little too out there for the CIA and Nsa. This of course involves supernatural, paranormal and extra-terrestrial cases. So, a tad similar to 'The X-Files' methinks especially as the two leads are played by an 'obstinate, socially inept and brilliant man' and his female partner. Hmmm a Mulder and Scully for the new generation? Are we ready, do we need them? ABC certainly seem to think so. Tom Mazza and Maggie Murphy will serve as executive producers. Carl Binder ('Stargate') and David Titcher will pen the series....

While fans are still speculating about a possible "X-Files" revival, ABC appears to be getting ahead of the trend. According to Deadline, the network has ordered a new paranormal investigation show, titled "Weird Desk," straight to series for Summer 2013.
Here's the breakdown, via Deadline:
Based on the alleged real-life mysteries from this world and beyond, it centers on the workings of a clandestine organization rumored to be named “Weird Desk.” Working above the levels of top secret and above the office of the President, the unit is the destination for mysterious intelligence rerouted from the CIA and Nsa. Tasked with investigating and solving occurrences of the paranormal, supernatural and sometimes extra-terrestrial, “Weird Desk” is led by Morgan, an obstinate, socially inept and brilliant man who would now be dead if it weren’t for his special forces trained partner, Rosetta.

Chicago – Some franchises are best left undiscovered. “Stargate” originally began as a terrible 1994 film from B-movie maestro Roland Emmerich. It took a potentially interesting premise, and used it as an excuse for a lot of uninspired sci-fi warfare. The film, bad as it was, inexplicably spawned two long-running TV shows: “Stargate Sg-1” and “Stargate: Atlantis.”
Fearing that their franchise had become outdated, producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper set their sights on creating a dark, edgy show more apt to connect with modern audiences. Thus, we have “Sg-u Stargate Universe” or as I like to call it, “Stargate: The J.J. Abrams Rip-Off.” It does a great job of being like everything else on television, without ever developing a compelling vision of its own. The show is sure to disappoint longtime “Stargate” fans, while failing to interest viewers who have no idea what “dialing the ninth Chevron” means.

When the producers announced they were working on yet another spinoff of the Stargate franchise, all I could do was sigh. "Stargate Sg-1" was fun enough, except it went two seasons too many. "Stargate: Atlantis" had a wonderful start, but there seemed to be far better job stability on "Earth: Final Conflict," and it simply wasn't worth an effort to invest in many of the characters there. So "Stargate: Universe" ... what areas of the franchise hasn't already been covered in the last 15 years worth of Stargate episodes? Well, Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper and Carl Binder show us in the first seconds of the new series. The stargate is fired up, and instead of watching someone casually walk through the puddle, we instead see someone shoot through it as if they were just shot from a circus ...
