Eric Kripke is gonna catch ’em all. “The Boys” showrunner has slowly but surely been casting the stars of the iconic CW series “Supernatural,” which Kripke created, on his R-rated Amazon Prime Video superhero drama. And he’s got one “very big one” he’s eyeing to bring on in Season 5, even if it’s for “a single episode” — Jared Padalecki, a.k.a. Sam Winchester.
“He’s been busy the last few years, so schedules haven’t worked out,” Kripke told Variety in an interview Thursday, referring to Padalecki’s starring role on the CW’s “Walker,” which was canceled earlier this week after four seasons. Padalecki starred alongside Jensen Ackles on the CW’s “Supernatural” for 15 seasons, from its debut on what was then the WB in 2005 through its series finale in 2020.
“But now, unfortunately, [‘Walker’] got canceled — but the good thing is he’s free,” Kripke said.

Crimson Peak may be the quintessential Guillermo del Toro film, as it compresses his fetishistic attention to detail into a single looming set where creaking floorboards, scores of dying moths, and the frequent intrusions of mutilated ghosts are just pieces in the giant dollhouse where the director merrily plays. The combination of gothic ghost story and harlequin romance doesn’t break new ground for either genre, but the intensity of Brandt Gordon’s art direction and Kate Hawley’s costume design reinforce the innate connection that period romance and horror share in how these genres so purely express their most profound ideas through ornate style.
Amusingly, the focus of the film’s first act—the gamesmanship of high society’s courtship rituals playing out in well-lit parlors—is no less tense than the story’s eventual retreat into the dark confines of Allerdale Hall. The most dominant sound effects in...

The days are getting longer everywhere, except Palm Springs, where darkness is on the ascent each May. That’s when the city plays host to the Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary May 9-12 with a program of a dozen classic films from the 1940s and ’50s. Great directors like Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Rossen, Andre de Toth and Anthony Mann and stars like Humphrey Bogart, John Garfield, Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Ryan will have desert dwellers and visitors alike eager to blot out the sun for four days, culminating in the festival’s customary Mother’s Day crime spree.
As always, the festival is curated and hosted by a face familiar to any serious modern-day noir aficionado, Alan K. Rode, one of the principals of the Film Noir Foundation and a co-host of the Noir City festival every April in Hollywood. Rode’s Noir City cohort,...

The Boys has been collecting cast and crew members from Supernatural like they are Infinity Stones. It started off with showrunner, Eric Kripke, who was the mastermind behind both the series; which was followed by Jim Beaver and Jeffery Dean Morgan, who appeared in the trailer for the fourth season. Ever since Jensen Ackles showed up in the third season of the superhero satire, fans of the hit CW series have wondered when the other half of the Winchester brothers will arrive.
Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in a still from The Boys
It would seem that they will not have to wait too long. Recently, Jared Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester, gave an interview where he commented on the matter. The actor revealed that he has been asked about it before. However, one core aspect of the Prime Video series has made him hesitant; the nudity.

This article contains spoilers for the Gen V finale and The Boys comic.
With the bloody first season of Gen V now over, Amazon Studios has released first look posters for the next chapter in this universe, The Boys season 4. Season 3 of The Boys and Gen V have both been building toward an important presidential election, and these images hint at who may end up winning.
The images are simple – the first shows Homelander (Antony Starr) standing triumphantly as confetti rains down upon him while the second shows Butcher (Karl Urban) staring down at the aftermath of the celebration, clearly disappointed in the results.

“The Boys” Season 4 will pick up where “Gen V” Season 1 left off, just ahead of an in-universe presidential election. And from the looks of the first promo images released by Amazon for the new episodes of “The Boys,” the Vought supes led by Homelander (Antony Starr) are going to have a good Election Day, and Billy Bucher (Karl Urban) and The Boys are going to be left crushed by defeat.
Amazon has not yet set a premiere date for “The Boys” Season 4, but confirmed through these photos it will stream in 2024.
See the pair of first-look photos below, which feature Homelander, who is backing vice presidential candidate Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and her running-mate presidential candidate Robert Singer (Jim Beaver), standing stoic and triumphant while red, white and blue confetti rains down on him. Meanwhile, Butcher is solemnly starring at a confetti and balloon-covered floor.

This article contains spoilers for "The Boys" and "Gen V."
Back at the beginning of "Gen V" season 1, I wrote about lead Marie Moreau's (Jaz Sinclair) blood-bending superpowers. Thus far, the characters have spoken of her powers with slight disgust, as if they're uniquely gross. As it turns out, there's been another blood-manipulating Supe in "The Boys" hiding in plain sight: Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit).
Introduced in "The Boys" season 2, Neuman first seemed like a good person, helping to rally the public against the Vought corporation and their out-of-control super "heroes." Then, in the finale "What I Know," it turned out Neuman and the mystery Supe who had been remotely blowing up people's heads all season were one and the same. Neuman is actually a double agent for Vought and the adopted daughter of CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito). During season 3, she throws Edgar under the bus, allies...

Slasher movies have been around for decades, and they excel because you have a group of people stalked by a killer, only to have the story end within 90 minutes.
Slashers on TV take things in a different direction, with the story being told over a longer arc.
That doesn't always work, but some slashers have delivered on their promise.
Because we're TV Fanatics, we've rounded up some of the best slashers to hit the small screen.
Check them out below.
Slasher
Slasher has had many homes during its time on the small screen.
It started its life on Chiller before moving to Netflix and currently airs on Shudder, where it enjoys continued success.
It promised lots of death and questions about the killer's identity.
It lived up to that promise.
However, we'd be remiss if we didn't recommend the original season and Guilty Party.

It’s been another wild month on the podcast, ping-ponging between genres and time periods. After kicking off the year with Richard Shepard’s twisty The Perfection, Trace and I ventured back to the mid-90s for an AIDS-era dissection of Todd Haynes’ Safe. In the film, Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) is the wealthy daughter of Buffalo businessman Carter Cushing (Jim Beaver). She’s courted by struggling entrepreneur Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston), much to the chagrin of her long-time friend Dr. Alan McMichaels (Charlie Hunnam). After the murder of her father, Edith travels to Allerdale Hall with Thomas and his brooding, sexually queer sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain), but she is almost immediately confronted by crimson apparitions, poisoned tea and plenty of secrets in the cellar. Brendan Fraser was on hand to play the iconic hero George Bailey — originally portrayed the Jimmy Stewart — while Christina Applegate brought wonderful charm playing Mary Hatch, a role first inhabited by Donna Reed.
Meanwhile, Jk Simmons lent his inimitable gruffness to portray the villainous Mr. Potter (originally played by Lionel Barrymore). Also, the character of the lovable guardian angel Clarence, first played by Henry Travers, was read with charming earnestness by Seth Rogen — who admitted in a Q&a after the event that he’d never seen the film.

Deadwood Creator David Milch Says It's A Waste Of Time To Feel 'Betrayed' By The Show's Cancellation
Here's a challenge. Read a random "TV shows canceled too soon" listicle floating around the internet. A series that will be on every single one (at least any that was written with a little bit of taste) is "Deadwood," HBO's gone-too-soon western.
The series ran a respectable three seasons (36 episodes) on HBO from 2004 to 2006, but ended inconclusively. The cast and crew also had more to tell. While everyone eventually got the chance to conclude the story with a two-hour wrap-up movie in 2019, "Deadwood: The Movie" was an epilogue, not a full new season of material.
Set in the eponymous South Dakota town during the 1870s, "Deadwood" was Shakespearean — literally, for most of the dialogue was written in iambic pentameter (and bounced from tragedy to farce just like the Bard's work did). The show was fairly faithful (but not bound) to history, with real men as the two leads: lawman Seth...

The show was fairly faithful (but not bound) to history, with real men as the two leads: lawman Seth...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to join The Boys in an unknown role.
The Grey’s Anatomy star will be a recurring guest star on the hit Prime Video superhero series, which recently released its third season.

He is not the only actor to have featured in both projects – fellow Supernatural cast-members Jensen Ackles and Jim Beaver have also made appearances in The Boys.
Back when the first season of The Boys was released, Morgan voiced his support for the series on Twitter.

Eric Kripke continues to pull in his Supernatural friends to fill out Prime Video’s The Boys, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan being the latest Supernatural veteran to sign up for the incredibly twisted, comic book-inspired series. There hasn’t been any official confirmation of who Morgan will play, however, he did tweet out his excitement over being a part of the mini-Supernatural reunion.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s a huge fan of The Boys and has been looking forward to the opportunity to reunite with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke for a while. Kripke told EW in May 2022 that the idea of bringing in Jeffrey Dean Morgan was still very much on his mind. It was all a matter of scheduling which was complicated when Morgan committed to starring in a The Walking Dead spinoff with Lauren Cohan.

‘The Boys’ Season 4 Adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Mystery Role, Marking Another ‘Supernatural’ Reunion
Soldier Boy’s daddy is joining “The Boys” for its fourth season — kind of.
In a move that is sure to bring joy to the “Supernatural” fandom, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been added to the cast of the Amazon superhero series for Season 4, marking yet another reunion between an alum of the long-running CW series and its creator Eric Kripke, who is now showrunner of “The Boys.”
“Walking Dead” star Morgan will be a recurring guest star on the fourth season of “The Boys,” with details about his character being kept under wraps for now.
On The CW’s now-ended “Supernatural,” Morgan played John Winchester, the demon-hunting father of Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki), whom he taught the “family business” from a very early age following the death of their mother Mary (Samantha Smith) at the hands of a yellow-eyed demon in the series opening moments.

It goes without saying that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) are the heart of "Supernatural." Throughout its 15-season run, the monster-slaying brothers were the face of the CW series: its story begins and ends with them, saving people, hunting things and living up to their family legacy. But its also true that they couldn't have saved the world from multiple apocalypses without a little help from their friends.
As the seasons progressed, what began as a story about two brothers searching for their father became a beautiful example of the power of found family. It's hard to remember a time before Castiel (Misha Collins) was a core part of their team and, while he's only introduced in the last couple of seasons, Jack Kline (Alexander Calvert) later becomes a crucial addition to their family.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “The Instant White-Hot Wild,” the Season 3 finale episode of “The Boys.”
Jensen Ackles knows a thing or two about playing men who have less-than-healthy relationships with their fathers following his 15 seasons starring as Dean Winchester on The CW’s “Supernatural” and his role as toxic-masculine superhero Soldier Boy on the now-concluded third season of Amazon’s “The Boys.”
But which of the two Ackles characters — one who did everything his demon-hunting father John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) asked of him and his brother, Sam (Jared Padalecki), and the other who went so far as to have a corrupt company inject him with a chemical that gave him super powers in an attempt to win his father’s approval — had the bigger “daddy issues” complex?

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “The Instant White-Hot Wild,” the Season 3 finale episode of “The Boys.”
“The Boys” ended its third season Friday with a finale that included multiple character deaths, changes in alliances and cliffhangers so huge that even Starlight would have a hard time flying down from them safely. Luckily for the Amazon Prime Video series, fans have grown accustomed to this madness and likely knew they were in for a wild ride when they tuned into the Season 3 finale.
But for the sake of underlining how much went down in the episode, here we go: Homelander (Antony Starr) kills Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell); the Deep (Chace Crawford) kills Robert Singer’s (Jim Beaver) VP pick and the slot goes to secret supe Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit); Starlight/Annie (Erin Moriarty) flies with just a little assistance from Hughie (Jack Quaid); Queen...

This article spoilers up to The Boys season 3 episode 5 and minor spoilers for all of Supernatural.
Jensen Ackles played Dean Winchester for 15 years on Supernatural – and he’ll be doing so again, in voice-over, for CW’s The Winchesters this autumn. Of course, Ackles is a professional actor and entirely capable of playing more than one character, and like his co-star Jared Padalecki he did other things during Supernatural’s run as well. But still, that length of time inhabiting one character is bound to have an effect on an actor’s choices. In fact, it can be a real bonus in creating a new character, even one as different from Dean Winchester as his new character on Prime Video’s The Boys, Soldier Boy.
The Boys isn’t totally unrelated to Supernatural, as it was developed for television by Eric Kripke, the creator of Supernatural and showrunner for its first five seasons.

CBS has canceled comedy series “B Positive” after two seasons.
Executive produced by Chuck Lorre, “B Positive” starred Annaleigh Ashford as Gina, a hard-partying woman with a checkered past who, on a whim, decided to offer up her kidney to a former high school acquaintance, Drew (Thomas Middleditch), a recently-divorced therapist and single dad undergoing kidney failure.
During the process, Gina discovers that the happiness she’d been seeking all along could be found in the form of giving, so upon inheriting a surprise windfall of money from a patient at Valley Hills, the assisted living facility where she works, she decides it’s time to make a big change in a positive direction.
The first season of the multi-cam comedy premiered Nov. 5, 2020, with the second debuting Oct. 7 of last year.

Hollywood is rallying behind Bruce Willis after the actor’s family announced on Wednesday that he will be stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with the cognitive brain disorder aphasia.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the announcement read. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
The announcement sparked an immediate outpouring of support for Willis, who broke out on the ABC series “Moonlighting” before transitioning into film with the iconic action film “Die Hard.” From there, Willis became one of biggest movie stars in the world with films including “Pulp Fiction,” “The Sixth Sense” and “12 Monkeys.”

Anyone familiar with B Positive boss Chuck Lorre’s other comedies knows that he’s not afraid to take big swings. Take, for instance, when Mom, which began as a story about a recovering drug- and alcohol-dependent single mother, morphed into a show about a group of women — a chosen family, really — who were bonded by their shared demons and a desire to overcome them. Or more recently when United States of Al, a series about a U.S. Marine and his Afghan interpreter, shifted gears to address the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.

Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys” received five 2021 Primetime Emmy nominations on Tuesday for its second season, including the much-coveted nod for Outstanding Drama Series. And in a complete contrast to his genre-busting superhero TV series, creator and showrunner Eric Kripke is filled with the most conventional emotions an honoree can hold on a day like today.
“Amazon definitely put forward a really badass campaign. And in our internal conversations, we would say, ‘You know, if you scratch beneath the surface of the superhero thing, there’s a lot going on here that feels worthy of some recognition,'” Kripke told TheWrap just a couple hours after the Television Academy revealed the list of nominees for its 73rd awards show. “But no, I never expected this at all. I mean, at the end of the day, I was really hoping we’d get some technical Emmys, because my team is just doing incredible work.

Comedian Robert “Bo” Burnham’s fourth standup special “Inside” began streaming on Netflix May 30 and plenty of viewers have nothing but praise for the show.
In true coronavirus pandemic fashion, Burnham’s special was filmed and performed entirely in one room. NPR called it “isolation theater.” It’s basically an exploration of what happens inside the mind of a comic who’s forced to do standup for really no one but himself for a whole year — and the mental toll that the coronavirus has taken on all of us.
Actor Jim Beaver said he was surprised by the special: “I just watched Bo Burnham: Inside on Netflix. Brilliant, frightening, beautiful, disturbing stuff. I was expecting a pretty good comedy special. I wasn’t expecting this. This is something entirely different, something entirely new. It’s dark. Great songs. It may be genius.”
