A new episode of the Revisited video series has just made its way online, and with this one we’re celebrating the birthday of the late, great director Tobe Hooper by looking at one of his more underrated horror films: the 2004 release Toolbox Murders (watch it Here)! You can hear all about it in the embed above.
Toolbox Murders is technically a remake of the 1978 film The Toolbox Murders, but it’s very different from the source material. Written by Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch, this one has the following synopsis: Young couple Steve and Nell move into a once fashionable, but now decaying, apartment block in Los Angeles, and soon realise that a number of young female residents have met unusually violent deaths. Before long, Nell makes some disturbing discoveries about the building’s manager and her fellow tenants.
The film stars Angela Bettis, Brent Roam, Marco Rodríguez, Rance Howard,...

You have to respect the workmanlike filmmakers who keep working in our beloved horror department. Say what you will -- be it kind of critical -- of the films of Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson. but there's always something to be said for indie-friendly horror freaks who simply keep churning out the movies. (Their better efforts include Autopsy (2008) and their early and underrated remake of The Toolbox Murders from 2004, although Mortuary, Night of the Demons, and Fertile Ground have their fans as well.)
And hey, the latest collaboration between Gierasch (director) and Anderson (co-writer) is a solid little combo of good ol' occult-based horror nastiness and an appreciable dose of downbeat film noir moodiness. While it has a few solid moments of straight scares and impressive gore, Fractured works best as a low-key character piece that feels like a respectful homage to The Outer Limits or Alan Parker's Angel Heart.

You’ve got to love the fact that the press junket for Adam Gierasch’s latest extreme horror film was held in a bar – in the middle of the day. (Not only was press allowed to imbibe, the open tab certainly was encouraging of vice.)
As the jukebox played and the fermented juices flowed, I sat down with Gierasch and company to ask a few questions about Fractured (formerly, Schism).
The movie’s main male stars – Callum Blue and Vinnie Jones – were not able to attend the event, but that’s okay... we had the lovely and talented actresses, Nicole Laliberte and Ashlynn Yennie, to chat up.
Laliberte plays wild sex kitten Marlena, while Yennie takes on the tamer (though no less-clothed) character of Brandy. It’s interesting to think that maybe the roles would have been reversed. “I got the script and there were two female characters. One was...

Fractured, formerly known as Schism, isn’t really a horror movie. It has a bit of an identity crisis, much like its lead character. Other traits it shares with its lead: It has problems with women, isn’t very captivating, and fails to make much of an impression. Filmmakers Adam Gierasch (co-writer/director) and Jace Anderson (co-writer/producer) have made far better features than this, including the 2009 Night of the Demons remake. Sadly, based on their latest effort they are not progressing. Fractured is shaky and jagged and feels like something from a first-time filmmaker. Callum Blue stars as Dylan, only that’s not his real name. Since waking up from a coma of more than 2 years, he has no memory. He leads a quiet, boring life and is a cook at a restaurant in New Orleans. He sleeps with Brandy (Ashlynn Yennie) from time to time, who notes that...

Don't be deceived by the cover art for Fractured and its "Vinnie Jones is out to get everyone in an effort to rescue a family member" nature. The film, out today from Seven Arts Entertainment, is actually quite Shock-worthy in the sense that it's a Jacob's Ladder/Angel Heart-esque, grisly journey into darkness. It's the latest film from director Adam Gierasch (working from a script he penned with Jace Anderson) and it stars Vinnie Jones, Callum Blue, Ashlynn Yennie and Nicole Laliberte.

CBS Films is developing an original superhero film called Split, which comes from screenwriters Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch (Night of the Demons, Fertile Ground).
According to THR, the story centers on "a young woman who, having spent most of her life bouncing between foster homes and institutions, is surprised when she is sought out by an identical twin she never knew existed. She also discovers that she and her sister have powerful abilities and must go on the run to keep their secrets hidden from threatening mysterious forces."
It's actually kind of nice to see an original superhero movie being made. A lot of studios aren't really taking the risks to make original films these days, so I think it's great when it happens! What do you think of the concept?

It may be Monday, but demons still want to party, and as producer Kevin Tenney told us this morning, they're preparing to do so in a splatter-filled sequel to the 2009 remake of his 1988 cult classic Night of the Demons. Read on for more!
"It’s been too long since something unspeakable has happened with a tube of lipstick," said Tenney (pictured), "and I think it’s time to change that with Night of the Demons: After-Party, which will be the funniest, bloodiest, nastiest Night of the Demons yet."
Joining producer Tenney for the sequel will be director Anthony Hickox (Waxwork, Hellraiser 3), who will direct from a script by Sean Tretta (Death of a Ghost Hunter, The Prometheus Project), and actress/horror veteran Tiffany Shepis, who will star. Gabe Bartalos (Leprechaun, Basket Case 2 & 3) will handle make-up and special effects, and Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th, House), will score the film.

Adam Gierasch (Night of the Demons, Autopsy) is in post-production on his latest film, Schism, and we spotted some sales art for the thriller at the American Film Market. Written by Gierasch and Jace Anderson, the film stars Callum Blue, Vinnie Jones and Ashlynn Yennie.
Blue plays Dylan White, who leads a normal, if boring, life. Having woken from a coma 8 months before with absolutely no memory of who he is or where he's from, he's looking to start again with as little drama as possible. He has a job that takes no effort and a girlfriend that gives the right amount of commitment to fit easily into his purposefully empty life. He is just fine with rolling along, going with the flow, until he begins unexplainably sliding between our world and another dimension; a world filled with unimaginable horror sand one in which he has no control.

Vinnie Jones is doing what he does best in this selection of new stills from Adam Gierasch's ('Fertile Ground', 'Night of the Demons') new thriller 'Schism'. Callum Blue ('Secret Diary of a Call Girl') plays recent coma victim Dylan who is trying to untangle his lost memories with terrifying results. Jones ('The Midnight Meat Train') is slashing and gun-weilding his way to answers in the new selection of snaps which also feature peeks at Blue and sexy co-star Ashlynn Yennie who appeared in Tom Six's 'The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)' and its equally f#cked up predecessor. Gierasch co-penned the script along with Jace Anderson. Check the new images and extended plot synopsis below....

Adam Gierasch directs and co-writes this psychological jolter, alongside partner Jace Anderson (the two also handled entertaining genre efforts, Autopsy and Night of the Demons). For those who dig a more grindhouse visual effect, this one may really sate the appetite: the entire picture was filmed on Super 16, which could prove to look damn cool. Callum Blue (Colombiana), Vinnie Jones (Midnight Meat Train), Ashlynn Yennie (The Humman Centipede), Nicole Laliberte (Dinner for Schmucks) and Jon Eyez(Texas Killing Fields) make up the featured ensemble.

The first images from Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson's new flick Schism are here, and just as we predicted, they're filled with perversion, lunacy, and overall mayhem. How we love this duo. Huzzah!
Written by Adam Gierasch and his partner Jace Anderson (both of whom teamed for Night of the Demons and Autopsy), with Gierasch once again in the director's chair, Callum Blue ("Smallville"), Vinnie Jones (Snatch, Midnight Meat Train), and Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede) are all set to star.
Schism follows "Dylan White," who works as a cook in Baton Rouge, and his girlfriend, "Brandy". Things are great for our duo until strange events prompt him to seek out the truth about himself -- following clues, Dylan discovers that he has a dark past in New Orleans. Can he right his past wrongs and find redemption for his sins?
Look for more on this one as we get it!

Earlier this year, director Adam Gierasch stepped back behind the camera for Schism, a new film he penned with Jace Anderson (the duo previously gave us the Night of the Demons remake and Autopsy).
The film stars Vinnie Jones (Midnight Meat Train), Callum Blue (Smallville) and Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede, Human Centipede 2).
The synopsis goes like this, you can find the pics inside... Having woken from a coma 8 months before, Dylan White is leading a normal life. Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson are our kind of sick. Known for making flicks that are riddled with perversion, lunacy, and overall mayhem, we couldn't have been happier when their latest project, Schism, was announced last October. Speaking of which... the train is getting ready to leave the station with a damned fine cast already attached.

Two of our favorite filmmakers, Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson, have another project brewing that's guaranteed to be laden in perversion, lunacy, and overall mayhem. That is, in fact, part of the reason why we love them so much!
Word has come down the horror pipleline that Gierasch (pictured right) and Anderson are reteaming for Schism, which begins lensing next month in New Orleans for Dark Arts and Seven Arts Entertainment.
Even cooler, the film is being shot on Super 16 so you know it's gonna look really friggin' cool. Schism follows "Dylan White," who works as a cook in Baton Rouge, and his girlfriend, "Brandy". Dark Arts, a division of Seven Arts Entertainment, is moving forward on two genre productions. The first is Schism from director Adam Gierasch, who penned the script with Jace Anderson. This duo previously gave us Autopsy , Night of the Demons and Fertile Ground . Dark Arts will also start production on Thicker , which is based on the short film and festival favorite of the same name. The feature will be directed by Terry Nemeroff and will star Leslie Zemeckis, Peter Facinelli, Guy Pearce and John Goodman. This film follows a brother and sister who go to great lengths in an attempt to recover an inheritance that their recently deceased mother was buried with. We'll hopefully have more details on Schism very soon.

Write/director Adam Gierasch proves he's got more range than I expected with this effective slow-roaster of a haunted house yarn. Well lensed with classy photography and muted performances by its relatively unknown cast (though TV fans may recognize Leisha Hailey), Fertile Ground turns on the creepy about twenty minutes in and refuses to let go. Let's put it this way: I just watched Haunting in Connecticut on Netflix in the same week and this was better.
When Emily Weaver has a miscarriage, she leaves the City with her husband Nate for the rural comfort of Nate's family home in New Hampshire. There, isolated, Emily learns she's pregnant again. Title: Fertile Ground Directed by: Adam Gierasch Starring: Gale Harold, Leisha Hailey and Chelcie Ross Running Time: 95 minutes, Rated R After Emily Weaver goes through a gruesome miscarriage, she and her husband Nate decide to move to a rural town where his family’s ancestral home is located. As they are settling in, Emily begins to have horrifying visions and ghostly encounters. Part of the DVD extras has the story-boarding, which I thought was brilliant to show the viewer how they plotted out their beautifully filmed cinematography. It really was great for a modest budget horror film. The commentary by director Adam Gierasch, writer Jace Anderson and lead actress Leisha...

More After Dark Originals news! How do you like it, how do you like it?! Here’s another fun interview with husband and wife writing team Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson discussing Fertile Ground, which Gierasch directed from Anderson’s script.

Gierasch: “It’s a big, big, big departure for me, because it’s like one of those early-70’s ghost stories like Julia (which was based on the Peter Straub book The Haunting of Julia); it’s like Burnt Offerings…it’s similar to The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. It’s sort of a very out-of-time, ghosty story that’s really more of a drama about a woman and her relationship with her husband and the loss of a child.”
Chris Haberman: Where did the inspiration for the story come from?...
