Spoilers ahead for X-Men ’97.
Despite the raucous criticism that arose in the aftermath of Bryan Singerʼs atrocious fourth film (X-Men: Apocalypse) in his X-Men directorial biography, nothing seemed to go right in the mutant universe until Beau DeMayoʼs X-Men ʼ97.
Other than a few good scatterings here and there from Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and James Mangold (The Wolverine), the Foxverse suffered and lagged under the curse of franchise sequels. Bryan Singerʼs exit after X2 took the life out of the X-Men universe until he appeared again in 2014 armed with the futuristic and brilliantly paced script of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
X-Men ʼ97 [Credit: Marvel Animation/Disney+]In hindsight, even though the 2014 film baked the already confusing timeline into an even greater mess, it was still a high point for the mutant universe considering what was to come soon after.

From co-directing the pulse-pounding John Wick and seamlessly transitioning to headlining major projects like Deadpool 2, David Leitch’s trajectory in the film is nothing short of remarkable. Playing Brad Pitt’s stunt double in a number of movies, including Fight Club, Leitch began his career in Hollywood as a stunt and fight coordinator.
Needless to say, his enlightening journey with his producer wife, Kelly McCormick, is just as enchanting as the films they make. Not so recently, when the dynamic duo spilled the beans about the casting experience of Deadpool 2, including the role that Brad Pitt almost graced, we got a rare glimpse into the ‘what-ifs’.

In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Leitch and McCormick admitted the fact that Pitt nearly played the role of Cable in Deadpool 2.

In a galaxy far, far away, no one can hear you scream…Sigourney Weaver — who is certainly no stranger to sci-fi — is reportedly in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to be the first new Star Wars film in seven years by the time it arrives in 2026.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Sigourney Weaver is possibly near a deal to become part of the Star Wars Saga with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is huge and exciting news for fans of both. And considering her history in the sci-fi and fantasy genre – Alien franchise, Ghostbusters, Galaxy Quest, Avatar, etc. – she would absolutely be a natural addition.
The next few years will be crucial for Star Wars, with a new set of movies that will further build on the franchise and the series that the studio has invested in. As far as The Mandalorian & Grogu goes,...

Shawn Levy has an impressive list of credits to his name, including Night at the Museum, Free Guy, and Stranger Things. Deadpool & Wolverine will be his biggest movie to date, but it isn't the first time a Marvel project has hit the filmmaker's radar.
Levy worked with Hugh Jackman on Real Steel and Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project, meaning he was already good friends with both actors.
However, before Reynolds pitched him on helming what was then Deadpool 3, Levy had already passed on the chance to take charge of 2013's The Wolverine!
"On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3," he tells Empire Online. "And I remember him saying, 'I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.' And my response was, 'I’m not gonna fucking say no,...

When Shawn Levy was offered the chance to direct Deadpool & Wolverine, he quickly signed on not just because he loved the character but because of a major regret.
“On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3,” Levy told Empire. “And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.’ And my response was, ‘I’m not gonna f***ing say no, are you kidding? It’s a hard and immediate yes, sir!’”
For Levy, the opportunity to direct Deadpool & Wolverine allowed him to make up for turning down The Wolverine a decade prior. “When we were making Real Steel, Hugh was looking to do The Wolverine, and he asked me if I wanted to do it,” Levy said. “And like a moron, I said, ‘No’. Because...

Nobody expected Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of Wolverine when he announced that he had hung up the claws after James Mangold's Logan, and the chances of a third Deadpool movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth seemed pretty slim when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox back in 2019.
Even so, both actors will return as their respective characters for this summer's Deadpool and Wolverine, and fans are wondering if we will see more of Wade and Wolvie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line.
Empire put the question to Reynolds and Jackman during an interview for the latest issue of the magazine.
“I’m very nervous talking to you,” responded Reynolds. “I’ve never been so scared of what’s coming out of my mouth,” added Jackman.
It's obviously a jokey response that allows them to avoid a direct answer, but still, we'd say...

Streets have gangs. High schools have cliques. Some movie sets, apparently, have “camps” — some sort of a mix between the two. Elisabeth Moss recently revealed how the filming of her, Winona Ryder, and Angelina Jolie’s 1999 movie saw the actors split into two factions that were, surprisingly, based on the film’s script.
Tale of Two Camps: Ryder vs. Jolie
Recently, Elisabeth Moss sat down with the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast and talked about the filming of 1999’s Girl, Interrupted. Moss was around 15 or 16 years old at the time, and she was excited to work with such huge stars like Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie; she did not, however, anticipate that the two actresses’ star power would tear the cast into two cliques that wouldn’t vibe with each other.

Hugh Jackman is set to return as Logan/ Wolverine in the upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor had already retired from playing the character after 2017’s Logan and a rich history dating back to the first X-Men. However, he couldn’t resist being in a film with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and thus came back to the role for the film.
Despite stating his retirement with Logan, Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine
The trailer and the promotional stills have fans excited, and seeing Jackman back as his most iconic character is an absolute treat. With some pointing out the lack of his iconic cowl, a still of Jackman from the film has been edited by fans to their liking. He has collaborated with an array of star directors, and is currently at work on James Mangold’s Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. He explains why US film-making is like the army, and British cinema is more like a factory job
Phedon Papamichael is sitting in a sparse hotel room in New York, huddled in a puffer jacket and glancing at the window as his fingers play with an unlit cigarette. He’s in town shooting A Complete Unknown, the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet – and today, at least, he seems to be channelling its subject.
The film, he says, at the moment largely involves “travelling to every corner of New Jersey on a bus”. For Papamichael, king of the road movie, this is a very good thing.

Elisabeth Moss recently appeared on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast while promoting her new FX series “The Veil” and reflected on the “intimidating” but exhilarating set of James Mangold’s 1999 drama “Girl, Interrupted.” Moss was around 15 years old when she shot the movie and starred as Polly “Torch” Clark, a burn victim who suffers from schizophrenia. The cast was headlined by Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, the latter of whom won an Oscar for her performance. Because of the tension that exists between their two characters, Moss said the film set became naturally divided into two camps.
“There were two kinds of camps. There was the Winona Ryder camp and the Angelina Jolie camp. … Off camera, but based on what was on camera, based on the script,” Moss said. “I was in the Winona Ryder camp. The Angelina Jolie camp was really cool. I was intimidated by the Angelina Jolie camp.

We’re deep into 2024 territory as of the time of writing, but our good friends and Deadline have decided to go back to last year and reveal the biggest box office bombs of 2023. It was a short trip down memory lane, but it was done properly because all the numbers were finally in, and there was enough time to objectively interpret the facts and numbers before us. This is why we decided to report on this list.
The list contains five titles and we are going to reveal them to you, as well as all the relevant numbers. Long story short, out of the five titles on this list, four belong to Disney/MCU and one to Warner, so it seems that Disney is undoubtedly the biggest loser of 2023, especially since some of the titles in question are major ones. Have you ever wondered what might happen if the DNA of two of the most vigorous characters in the Marvel Universe came together? Although Wolverine is widely recognized for being a recluse, nomad, and man who would be better off without romance, Logan’s numerous offsprings demonstrate that his lethal abilities are too great to be limited to a single generation.
Although many X-Men fans still have a soft spot for the original films, one of the main criticisms leveled is that they seemed to focus more on the two lead actors in each series than on the actual X-Men. The earlier flicks functioned more as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, while the later ones functioned more as Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique.
Nevertheless, the fact remains that while fans genuinely adore these two characters off-screen, the same cannot be said for their son.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Kevin Feige Advised Hugh Jackman Not To Return After Logan; New Still Released
There was a lot of excitement when it was announced that Hugh Jackman would be reprising the role of Wolverine for a team-up with the Merc With a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) in Marvel Studios' Deadpool movie, but not everyone was fully on board.
For many fans, James Mangold's Logan was the perfect send-off for Jackman's take on the iconic mutant, and there was a perception that bringing the character back would only cheapen his emotional farewell.
As it turns out, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige felt the same way!
“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige recalls to Empire. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.’”
Feige came around to the idea when it was explained that Jackman would be playing a different Variant of Wolverine for this movie, which was confirmed in the recent trailer.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The superhero movie renaissance has had a few absolutely perfect casting choices, and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is one of them. He might be taller than his comic book counterpart, but Jackman's performance as the brawny, growly, metal-clawed mutant was crucial to the success of the original "X-Men" movie trilogy. It's no wonder that his Wolverine has had three solo spin-off movies, including the critically acclaimed final chapter, "Logan." It's equally unsurprising that Jackman has been unable to resist returning, despite saying farewell to the character, for the upcoming threequel "Deadpool & Wolverine."
"For five years, I was really honest when I said, 'I'm never playing that part again, I promise you,'" Jackman has previously insisted. In a new interview with Empire magazine, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige revealed that he once urged Jackman to stick to this conviction:

There was no mention of it during Lucasfilm's splashy Star Wars Celebration last year, but The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first Star Wars movie released theatrically since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.
Arriving in place of The Mandalorian season 4, the hope is that Din Djarin and The Child can restore the franchise to its former glory on the big screen (with the Rey-led movie next up for Lucasfilm and James Mangold and Dave Filoni's efforts somewhere on the twin-sunned horizon).
We recently learned that The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released on May 22, 2026, and a shooting update has been shared today by Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com).
"I talked to two different cats, both believe that filming is actually going on in May for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu," they explain. "In May there will be filming done. I’m not saying it’s May 1st,...

Hideo Kojima, as far as video games are concerned, is no less than an auteur and legend in the field. Each of his video games is more of an experience filled with nuanced themes and lessons ranging from philosophy to warfare. His Metal Gear series, in particular, despite being based on conflicts and the role of technology in society gives an engaging narrative touching upon morality and political-social commentary.

Marvel Studios has a history of hiring some of the most talented directors in the film industry. From the Russo Brothers and James Gunn to Taika Watiti, James Mangold, and even Sam Raimi, their lineup is certainly impressive. All these directors have helped create masterpieces, bit by bit helping the superhero franchise become what it is today.
Marvel has had excellent directors
Knowing how many big-name directors have been a part of the franchise, many fans were not surprised when certain rumors started to float around the internet—rumors regarding the director of the upcoming and highly-anticipated Spider-Man 4.
Unfortunately for those who believed and wanted the whispers to be true, an insider seems to have shut these speculations down very quickly with a rather rude awakening.

The superhero genre has traditionally been family-oriented. Often light-hearted and ending with a moral message, PG-13 is what most of these films aim for. However, every now and then there comes an R-rated superhero flick that completely blows off adult minds, forcing them to be hyped like kids again. And the Deadpool series did just that.
A still from Logan
However, Deadpool wasn’t the first R-rated superhero movie, and it certainly won’t be the last. Most of the time, R-rated movies earn much less than their PG counterparts, and just like Deadpool, that rule is occasionally broken. As in the case of Logan, which successfully clawed through its family-friendly genre to present a bloody masterpiece.

For over two decades, Patrick Stewart has been synonymous with the iconic role of Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, in the X-Men franchise and the MCU. His portrayal of the wise and powerful mutant leader has left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide.
However, when it came to reprising his role in the 2017 film Logan, Stewart couldn’t shake off concerns about potentially being typecast as an elderly character.

James Mangold’s Logan is one of the most respected and critically acclaimed works surrounding the character of Wolverine. Hugh Jackman gave the performance of his life, and the story and script helped him through every step of the way. Although the film’s premise could not have been more beautiful and fans adored the direction the film took, many expected the story to follow the comic book series, Old Man Logan.
A still from Logan
While it did take some inspiration, the story is unique enough to have little to no proper source material. Many fans were surprised by such an approach, as the comic’s story was one of the most tragic and dark ones. It paints the picture of a barren world, having been ruled by villains for too many years.
While many would have chosen this story itself, Mangold revealed why he did not take such an approach.

Daisy Ridley shot to fame as the leading protagonist Rey in Star Wars’ sequel trilogy. She shared screen space with newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, as well as Star Wars veterans such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford in the films. The films were divisive in their responses, with creator George Lucas himself not being a fan.
After Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, which ended Rey’s arc, Ridley has been keeping busy with other projects and has also begun a career as an executive producer. However, she will be returning as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film. Ridley mentioned that she almost manifested a Rey-centered film right before meeting with LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy.

For decades, the Mad Max franchise has brought the outer reaches of chaos and imagination within the audience’s reach. From the brain of George Miller was born an apocalyptic wasteland that can neither be defined as dysfunctional nor dystopian since Mad Max has always existed within a framework of structured madness.

With Imperators, War Boys, Crow Fishers, and Buzzards populating and running wild on the wasteland, the world of Mad Max is devoid of limits. As such, to continue to explore such a world would mean breaking down its mystical elements and essentially making it redundant. The best solution in such a scenario is to quit while one’s still ahead and keep the legacy of Mel Gibson, George Miller, Charlize Theron, and Tom Hardy intact.

From Marvel cameos to Wade Wilson breaking the fourth wall, and Wolverine dropping F-bombs, the second trailer had something for everyone, with more fans now joining the threequel hypetrain. The new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine also gave us a proper glimpse of Hugh Jackman’s Logan in his classic yellow spandex, who looks better than ever as Wolverine.
But despite a plethora of references, there was no sign of Dafne Keen’s X-23 from Logan in the trailer. However, per Insider, not only will she be incorporated into the story, but she’ll reportedly be the one to break the news of her Wolverine’s sacrifice to this variant.

Wolverine is the best at what he does. And what he does is self-loathing and swear words. At least, that’s what we see in the latest trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, courtesy of a returning Hugh Jackman seemingly as the only surviving X-Man from his universe.
The third Deadpool movie has long promised to be an R-rated reunion for 20th Century Fox mutants and a way to bring the X-Men into the MCU, so far the teasers are delivering just that. The first trailer was a cameo-fest full of Deadpool‘s supporting cast and other Fox characters, as well as a few Fox X-Men villains. The second trailer continues this trend, but focuses more on Wolverine. Along the way, we get some deep Marvel winks, many of which fly by so quickly that it takes enhanced senses to catch them.

Deadpool is back and more meta than ever, but this time he's bringing some serious backup. For the first time since Disney acquired rival studio 20th Century Fox (along with their entire catalogue of pre-existing IP), the upcoming "Deadpool & Wolverine" is now setting its sights on no less a prize than the Marvel Cinematic Universe ... and no less an icon than Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. It's the team-up movie that nobody saw coming, especially after 2017's "Logan" seemed to officially and definitively close the book on Jackman's portrayal of the character. The reaction to the newly released trailer for Marvel's sole theatrical release of 2024 only further proves that interest in this threequel among both fans and casual audiences alike remains at a fever pitch. But what about those who feel strongly that the beloved member of the X-Men ought to have stayed retired -- or perhaps undergone a recasting,...

Before Ryan Reynolds sliced his way into box office lore with Deadpool’s razor-sharp wit, another beloved actor was only a claw’s length away from making R-rated comic book history. Yes, Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold intended to immortalize The Wolverine as the first mature audience-oriented spectacle in the X-Men universe.
Consider this: it is 2013, and the cinematic world is enthralled by PG-13, effects-laden marvels like The Avengers, whose paint is still drying on its vibrant canvas.
Even though Fox steered the ship towards safer waters, could anyone have predicted how Mangold’s unrealized vision would paradoxically give The Wolverine a cutting edge that allowed it to cut through the din of its competitors?

The actor has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now and has a slate of high-profile projects in the pipeline. Chalamet has reportedly decided to use his own singing voice in the biopic instead of lip-syncing to Dylan’s songs. The actor had also flexed his vocal cords in last year’s musical comedy Wonka. If Criterion24/7 hasn’t completely colonized your attention every time you open the Channel––this is to say: if you’re stronger than me––their May lineup may be of interest. First and foremost I’m happy to see a Michael Roemer triple-feature: his superlative Nothing But a Man, arriving in a Criterion Edition, and the recently rediscovered The Plot Against Harry and Vengeance is Mine, three distinct features that suggest a long-lost voice of American movies. Meanwhile, Nobuhiko Obayashi’s Antiwar Trilogy four by Sara Driver, and a wide collection from Ayoka Chenzira fill out the auteurist sets.
