Timothée Chalamet is making his Martin Scorsese cinematic debut in Scorseses “most difficult” project yet.
The Oscar-nominated actor leads the Bleu de Chanel men’s fragrance campaign for Chanel, with auteur Scorsese helming the latest commercial. Actress Havana Liu Rose co-stars in the sultry campaign that captures an obsessive young love story. The logline reads: “An actor’s conflict between celebrity and staying true to himself. A dialogue between Timothée Chalamet’s artistic sensibility and Martin Scorsese’s virtuosity.”
Chalamet told GQ in conversation with Scorsese that the ad is “not evocative of other commercials […] in a good way,” adding that he didn’t want audiences to “feel like it’s a product.”
Scorsese called helming a commercial an “intense” process. The “Killers of the Flower Moon” director, whose latest feature is three-and-a-half-hours long, explained why making a one-minute ad is even more challenging as a director.

After his epic undertaking of rethinking Irma Vep for a new generation, Olivier Assayas premiered the small-scale Suspended Time at Berlinale earlier this year, but now the French director is back to working on a bigger canvas. He’s unveiled his next project, an adaptation of Giuliano da Empoli’s The Wizard of the Kremlin, with quite a cast.
Paul Dano, his Irma Vep lead Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, Zach Galifianakis, and Tom Sturridge will star in the film, co-written by Assayas and Emmanuel Carrère. Here’s the synopsis: “The story opens in Russia, in the early 1990’s, in the aftermath of the Ussr’s collapse. In a new world that promises freedom and flirts with chaos, a young artist-turned-tv producer, Vadim Baranov, unexpectedly becomes the spin doctor of a promising member of the Fsb (ex-Kgb), Vladimir Putin. Working at the heart of Russian power, Baranov blurs truth with lies,...

Willie Nelson was forced to quite smoking marijuana a few years back due to breathing issues. However, that doesn’t mean the country legend has cut down on his cannabis consumption; he still vapes and eats edibles. He’s also picked up more than a few cannabis recipes over the years, which he and his wife Annie have now collected in a new cookbook.
Willie & Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook is set for release on November 12th via Gallery Books (pre-orders are now ongoing). Spanning 256 pages, the recipe book draws from the couple’s “favorite meals on nationwide tours, at the ranch, at home, and in their favorite cities along the way.”

My screening series Amnesiascope will have its next event on Tuesday, May 28 at the Brooklyn Center for Theatre Research. It was only a matter of time until I showed a film by Jean-Luc Godard, and if it’s so early into the programming cycle we can consider the work itself––to my mind his greatest feature (whatever its status as a rare object) and one that well embodies the creative spirit of the theater space that’s given Amnesiascope a home. This will mark its first New York screening since 2017.
Without revealing the film’s title I’ll say it’s a summit of Godard’s ’80s corpus, yet another self-reflecting vision of a director’s rise and fall, and makes for an essential study of Jean-Pierre Léaud as auteurism embodied. Were that, somehow, not enough, playwright (and Center co-founder) Matthew Gasda will once again mix cocktails that come far...

The past year saw a glut of biopics, and there are many more to come.
On the horizon are movies about Bob Dylan (A Complete Unknown with Timothee Chalamet), Michael Jackson (Michael with Jaafar Jackson), Shirley Chisolm (Shirley with Regina King), and many others.
Biographical pictures can be a vehicle to introduce a star from the past to the younger set, a la Elvis and then Priscilla. Or to bring a lesser-known historical figure like Oppenheimer to the forefront of our consciousness.
Other times, rather than being educational, a biopic can sensationalize a tragedy or scandal, which could leave a bad taste in the mouths of fans. This was the case with the Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson miniseries.
Biopics are not a new genre for Hollywood. They are part of the ebb and flow of popularity. The vehicle is always around, sometimes as a small interest piece and, every now and then,...

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2026, and there’s already talk of a tribute show to mark the occasion. But Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell isn’t sure he wants to do it.
“The management said that if we did it, we’d get the original band back together, have some guest singers, and maybe just do a couple of shows,” Campbell tells Rolling Stone. “But then I always throw my hands up and go, ‘I can’t think about that. I’m not ready to go back and do that.

Quentin Tarantino felt that he could have directed Wes Craven’s Scream. He took some shots at Craven’s version of the story. However, Tarantino admitted that he was terrified by one of Craven’s earlier films when he was a child.
Quentin Tarantino felt Wes Craven stopped ‘Scream’ from achieving its potential
During a 2015 interview with Vulture, Tarantino was asked if he wanted to direct any franchise movies. “I could have imagined doing the first Scream,” he said. “The Weinsteins were trying to get Robert Rodriguez to do it. I don’t even think they thought I would be interested.” For context, Rodriguez has worked with Tarantino on multiple occasions. Most famously, they each directed a film from the double feature Grindhouse.

For anyone wondering whether that was the real Bob Dylan who called into John Mulaney’s Netflix talk show last night: It wasn’t.
Tuesday night marked the third of six installments for Everybody’s in L.A., Mulaney’s very live, very loose, late-night-esque show. One of the standout elements of the format so far is when Mulaney takes viewer phone calls. Anything can happen on those calls, but last night yielded a most unexpected guest.
Sounding off on the episode’s call-in topic of helicopters, a twangy-voiced “Bob in Malibu” complained, “They spook my horses.”
“Bob, what’s your full name?” Mulaney eventually asked.
“Bob Dylan. I’m a recording artist for Columbia,” the caller replied.
No, that wasn't the real Bob Dylan who called into #everybodysinLA with @Mulaney last night. It was SNL's James Austin Johnson (aka @shrimpJAJ). Full story: https://t.co/jIDACSW2fD pic.

He has collaborated with an array of star directors, and is currently at work on James Mangold’s Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. He explains why US film-making is like the army, and British cinema is more like a factory job
Phedon Papamichael is sitting in a sparse hotel room in New York, huddled in a puffer jacket and glancing at the window as his fingers play with an unlit cigarette. He’s in town shooting A Complete Unknown, the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet – and today, at least, he seems to be channelling its subject.
The film, he says, at the moment largely involves “travelling to every corner of New Jersey on a bus”. For Papamichael, king of the road movie, this is a very good thing.

Nashville – I recently had the extraordinary opportunity to attend a performance at The Listening Room Cafe, where I was treated to an unforgettable evening featuring the “Next from Nashville” lineup. The showcase was nothing short of exceptional. Amidst this lineup of talent, one performer truly stood out to me … Zandi Holup.
Zandi Holup and the other performers had acoustic guitars in hand and standing microphones as their sole companions, inviting the audience into their world of music with nothing but their instruments and voices, bridging the gap between performer and listener. All the performers sang original music, effortlessly captivating the audience with soul-stirring melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

Zandi’s profoundly felt vocals carried an aura of authenticity that immediately drew me in. With a style characterized by raw, unfiltered storytelling, Zandi’s music seemed to flow effortlessly from a deep well of personal emotion and introspective thoughts.

Since making its debut at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival, New Life has garnered a lot of attention for its first-time writer/director John Rosman and his potentially apocalyptic chase film. I missed it during its festival run, but on the eve of its American release, I got my chance to rectify that and see if it lived up to its hype.
It starts like a conventional thriller, with a bloodied woman slipping through the streets of what looks like a typical American suburb, trying to avoid being seen. She lets herself into her house and cleans herself up. She barely managed to wash and change before she sees armed men in her kitchen. She lets herself out a window and, since they apparently never learned about guarding a perimeter,...

New York — Linnea Norton spent Sunday at Columbia University jamming on the guitar with other students — a drummer and a cohort of harmonizing singers. They played Appalachian folk music and protest songs by Bob Dylan and John Lennon. The encampment smelled like sunscreen, and students kicked a soccer ball after a teach-in about imperialism. Some had brought their young children.

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. who are shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week, we’re talking to Jordan Schwarzenberger, one of the founders of Arcade Media, a London-based management company that manages YouTube megastars the Sidemen. Schwarzenberger has used skills honed as an agent to help the group of creators move to new levels.
The Sidemen are, in their words, “a group of friends with a few videos online.” Those “few” videos have generated six billion views on YouTube, and spawned chicken shops, a vodka brand, hotel projects, clothes, and a film telling the story of how a group of friends who started out playing video games together became the biggest crew of digital creators in Europe. Their management company is Arcade Media, founded by Jordan Schwarzenberger, Aaron O’Neill and Sam Unwins.

These trainees have both been participants on the Good Shepherd’s Leap programme and these roles – embedded to support service users accessing the charity – form a key part of their recovery journey.

In 1969, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr recorded The Beatles song “Get Back.” In 1972, Ringo Starr released a solo song that had some strikingly similar elements to The Beatles’ hit. He admitted he copied part of the song.
Ringo Starr took inspiration from a Beatles song in his career as a solo artist
Much of The Beatles’ experience recording Let It Be was agonizing. Beatles producer George Martin said the album was such an “unhappy” one that he was surprised the band reunited to record Abbey Road (per The Beatles Anthology). Still, there were some bright spots in the recording process. Starr said they enjoyed working together when they felt they were recording a good track.
“‘Get Back’ was a good track. I felt, ‘This is a kick-a** track.’ ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ also,” Starr said. “They were two fine tracks. Quite simple and raw — back to basics.

Fat White Family are arguably best known for their on-stage nudity and confrontational use of Nazi imagery in their work. Their 2019 album Serfs Up!, however, found the South London provocateurs finally putting as much effort into their music as they have their public antics. On Forgiveness Is Yours, the band continues to hone their songwriting and musicianship, with genre pastiches ranging from psychedelic folk (“John Lennon”), orchestral pop (“Religion for One”), conga-driven disco (“Bullet of Dignity”), and danceable post-punk (“Polygamy Is Only for the Chief”). Think Serge Gainsbourg and Leonard Cohen meets Pulp.

It’s a slow weekend for theatrical releases but a great one for streaming debuts. The hottest title is a surefire Oscar candidate, and the others have become fan favorites with long shelf lives ahead.
The contender to watch this week: “Dune: Part Two“
Denis Villeneuve‘s first “Dune” won six of its 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Original Score and Best Visual Effects. His second, 2024’s highest-grossing movie to date, could show up in many of the same categories next year. Timothée Chalamet probably has a better shot at a nomination for the Bob Dylan biopic he’s currently shooting, and if Zendaya deserves recognition for anything, it’s “Challengers.” But even without acting contenders, “Dune: Part Two” could rank among next season’s biggest players. It’s still in theaters, but you can now ride the sandworm at home by renting or purchasing the film on VOD.

Timothée Chalamet had a dream run at the box office, with his last two films Wonka and Dune: Part Two earning huge numbers globally. The actor has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now and has a slate of high-profile projects in the pipeline. His next project is the James Mangold-directed Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
Chalamet has reportedly decided to use his own singing voice in the biopic instead of lip-syncing to Dylan’s songs. The actor had also flexed his vocal cords in last year’s musical comedy Wonka. A statement from director Paul King about Chalamet’s singing talents might be the reason why Mangold was sure of the Call Me By Your Name star playing Bob Dylan.

What has Bohemian Rhapsody wrought?!
Over the past five years and across nearly a thousand write-ups for The Film Experiences, you might have denoted my slight distaste for biopics. To be fair, "slight" might be an understatement. I bring this up to admit my bias against these projects, often conventional to a fault and dripping with mercenary intent. But even if you're a fan of them, you must admit there's been a disproportionate influx of these productions in the past few years, especially in the context of dramas about musicians. It's likely a consequence of Bohemian Rhapsody's immense success at the box office and with awards groups, generating a thousand copycats that may not reach the depths of its ignobility but still plateau at a level of miserable mediocrity.

Madonna‘s live performances take a lot of inspiration from the theatrical rock of the 1970s, so it makes sense that her “provocative performances” started with one song by The Who. In middle school, she performed one of The Who’s most famous songs in school and was shunned by her peers. Eventually, that sort of controversy would work out in her favor. However, this doesn’t mean Madonna ever looked at herself as cool or a trendsetter.
Madonna said her brothers introduced her to songs by The Who and The Rolling Stones
During a 2009 interview with Rolling Stone, the Queen of Pop revealed that she has a rockin’ side. “Everyone thinks I was born in a disco,” she said. “My older brothers were in the basement listening to The Who and The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, [Led] Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love,’ The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley.'...

The Beatles‘ Revolver is one of several great albums that came out in 1966 and changed the entire trajectory of rock music. Donovan, one of the rock stars who made 1966 a watershed year, discussed why so many musicians made history at the same time. At least one of his comments was questionable at best.
Donovan said civil rights inspired The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’
When people think about the 1960s, they are probably thinking about the period from 1966 to 1969. That era typified most of the artistic and aesthetic elements that defined the decade. Prior to 1966, 1960s music mostly sounded like 1950s music, as evidenced by Phil Spector’s early girl group songs and The Beatles’ bubblegum rock ‘n’ roll tunes.
During a 2016 interview with Billboard, Donovan discussed the musical legacy of 1966. That was the year of Donovan’s Sunshine Superman, The Beatles’ Revolver, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, and Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde.
