It's hard to believe that A24 is over 10 years old, but the company has quickly become one of the best contemporary distributors. Few distribution companies have developed their own recognizable aesthetic or are able to sell pricey hipster-style merchandise. But A24's curation of independent film has stoked the flames of cinephiles' passion for bold visions and imaginative stories. Their commitment to creating a platform for independent filmmaking feels refreshing in the glut of superhero and IP-driven releases. A24 has launched the careers of some of our most innovative filmmakers, including Greta Gerwig, Barry Jenkins, Alex Garland, Ari Aster, and Robert Eggers while bringing directors such as Harmony Korine and Sean Baker to a wider theatrical audience. But for every "Moonlight" or "Hereditary," there are other A24 films that have not been quite as well-received. Even though they have bad Rotten Tomatoes scores, they are still worth watching for all...

"All of this was part of a bigger story." Hob has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled MoviePass, MovieCrash, another of these "rise and fall" business stories, this one about something that really hits close to home. MoviePass was a movie lover's dream, offering access to movie theater tickets at a discounted monthly subscription rate when it launched in 2017. However, the co-founders, who had built the pop culture phenomenon from scratch, were cast aside and forced to watch from the sidelines as new executives seized control. Produced by Mark Wahlberg, the doc film follows the meteoric rise and stranger-than-fiction implosion of theatrical movie subscription service MoviePass, and how they crashed & burned. This doc profiles all of "the key players who, in peddling a false narrative and seeking to fly too high, created a wild ride that ended with hundreds of millions of dollars in lost value and...

The MoviePass moment was an extraordinary one. Between 2017 and 2018, the company offered a service that granted subscribers admission to one theatrical movie per day for $9.95 per month. At the time, it felt too good to be true, because the business model seemed like it made no sense. And it didn’t – the service flamed out in spectacular fashion by 2019 after burning through hundreds of millions of dollars.
The story of MoviePass’ dramatic rise and fall is the subject of “MoviePass, MovieCrash,” a new documentary that premieres on HBO and Max on May 29.
HBO released a trailer for the documentary today, which promises a “Fyre Fraud”-style look at what went wrong. It’s a story of hubris, excess, and betrayal, and as a moviegoer, it will make you nostalgic for a moment in the relatively recent past that feels so long gone but was so fun while it was happening.

The rise and fall of theater subscription service MoviePass is captured in new HBO documentary “MoviePass, MovieCrash.”
Dubbed “the Netflix of the movie theater” in the trailer, MoviePass was founded by Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt in 2011 before former CEOs Mitch Lowe and Ted Farnsworth allegedly utilized fraudulent business tactics; the duo were charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a 2022 lawsuit. The lawsuit additionally named ex-MoviePass Vice President Khalid Itum as a defendant, with Itum being accused of submitting false invoices for the company.
MoviePass filed for bankruptcy in 2020 after launching a $9.99 per month subscription in 2017 allowing people to see a movie a day. Upon moving to the $9.99 one movie per day model, subscriptions went from 20,000 to 100,000 users within two days, ultimately capping at more than 3 million subscribers in 2018. Yet the company still lost more than $150 million in 2017 alone. MoviePass filed for bankruptcy in 2019.

Back in 2009 veteran director Michael Bay created the iconic film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Being a sequel to the 2007 film Transformers, the 2009 film had to be bigger and better than the previous one and that is what Bay was hoping for.

"Vanishing Point" isn't exactly a mainstream classic, but for a portion of moviegoers who like to see cars go fast and people do drugs, it's pretty much unmissable. Based on that description alone, it makes sense that the cult film's audience grew when it was directly referenced in Quentin Tarantino's 2007 road slasher film "Death Proof." Other directors who are major fans of the film include Edgar Wright and Steven Spielberg, who once told Entertainment Weekly it was one of his favorite movies.
The 1971 film didn't feature many stars, but did include a handful of actors who would become famous for other projects in the years following the film. Cleavon Little, who played radio DJ Super Soul in the film, went on to star in Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" three years later, while actress Charlotte Rampling, who was Oscar nominated for her work in "45 Years" in 2016, apparently appeared as...

Intro: It’s a story we’ve all heard before. A group of friends stray off the beaten path and end up having to fight for their lives. This has served as the set-up for many classic horror films and thrillers. Back in the early ‘90s, director Stephen Hopkins used it as the set-up for an action movie that has an awesome cast. Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jeremy Piven, and Stephen Dorff play the friends fighting to survive. Denis Leary is the leader of the criminal gang out for their blood. Unfortunately, not a lot of people went to see the movie when it was released… but they did make the soundtrack a hit. The movie is called Judgment Night, and it’s time for it to be Revisited.

In the post-apocalyptic future where mankind has been reduced to mute, feral packs of humans and all of our skyscrapers have grown over with greenery, there isn't much use for money. But until that future inevitably comes, studios need cash to make movies like "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," and they need those movies to generate even more money so that the whole hairy cycle can continue.
Fortunately, "Kingdom" is so far living up to the standards of its ancestors with an estimated opening weekend of $52-55 million, after grossing $22.2 million from Thursday previews and Friday ticket sales (per Deadline). That's roughly in line with early box office projections, and also on par with "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" ($54.8 million) and "War for the Planet of the Apes" ($56.2 million). However, it falls short of two other entries in the franchise: "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,...

Has there ever really been a lousy Planet of the Apes movie? Not really. Yet, it’s often unheralded when we talk about the great franchises. So, let’s look at the series as a whole, with this Planet of the Apes movies ranked list (from worst to best). And don’t worry – you’ll get to have your say tomorrow with a poll I’ll be publishing, so check back for that.

Who knew that French author Pierre Boulle’s slim, satirical 1963 novel, Le Planete des Singes, would lead to one of the most successful science fiction franchises of all time? Consisting of 10 films (to date), two TV series , comic books (including a magazine series from Marvel), toys, games, merchandise and more, Planet of the Apes remains one of the most enduring and unique sci-fi sagas in cinematic history.
The success of the original film, 1968’s Planet of the Apes, led studio 20th Century Fox (which finally made the movie after years of development and stalling) to launch a series of sequels. That wasn’t necessarily unheard of back then, but those sequels—which include Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)—told one complete story, unlike anything done on film before.

This article contains spoilers for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
At the end of Planet of the Apes, the human astronaut who strove to understand the strange, simian-occupied planet made a shocking discovery. Horror overwhelms him as he struggles to make sense of the honored American monument before him, now barely recognizable.
Of course, that description can refer to the twist ending of the 1968 sci-fi classic, in which Charlton Heston falls on his knees at the sight of a decimated Statue of Liberty, realizing that he has been on a post-nuclear Earth the whole time. However, it also describes the less loved 2001 Planet of the Apes, directed by Tim Burton. In that film, Mark Wahlberg’s astronaut makes it back to the past only to find an ape version of the Lincoln Monument.
On a narrative level, the ending of 2001 Apes makes no sense, not even to Burton.

Seth Macfarlane’s foul mouthed Ted will be back for a second series. Here’s what we know about Ted season 2:
TV spin-off Ted, based on the Seth Macfarlane films of the same name, has proved so successful that Peacock has commissioned a second series. The motion capture means that the show is labour intensive and expensive to make – according to some estimates, the budget is pushing $10m an episode – so it could be a while before it hits the screen.
Ted (the TV series) is a prequel set in 1993 which follows the adventures of the titular bear (voiced by Macfarlane) and his 16 year-old best friend John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham).
The seven-episode series debuted in January, and was a big deal in the UK as well as the US; according to Deadline,...

Why Was Donny Sympathetic towards Martha in Baby Reindeer?(Photo Credit –Netflix/YouTube)
In the show Baby Reindeer, When Donny first sets his eyes on Martha, he feels pity. In his own words, he felt sorry for her just by looking at her condition. Feeling sad about someone without even knowing what is going on with them can be complicated, but seeing Martha’s overall appearance, Donny could not help it. This feeling of pity leads him to offer her a cup of tea, which sets the foundation stone of all the hell that eventually breaks loose.
Why Does Donny Keep Being Involved With Martha?
Throughout the show, the viewers are bound to wonder why Donny is so sympathetic towards Martha, even when she harasses him and those close to her beyond the gates of hell. However, a little insight into Donny’s character helps us understand the situation better.

Ryan Gosling Gives The Fall Guy 2 Update(Photo Credit –YouTube)
The Fall Guy has successfully managed to keep the audience entertained with its amazing action and comedy sequences. Directed by David Leitch, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in the lead roles. The jokes about the movie started with the Barbenheimer collaboration as Ryan was a part of Barbie, and Emily starred in Oppenheimer. These movies clashed in theatres last year and were the most talked about.
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starrer is a tribute to all the stuntmen who risk their lives to perform the breathtaking and high-octane action sequences. It helps one understand what goes behind the scenes to make these action movies such a remarkable watch. It’s also a love story between Ryan and Emily’s Colt and Jody. The film has a happy ending, but will there be a sequel? Well, Ryan is giving us hope.

In the great debate of Bear or Man, Peacock chooses Bear! After giving a green light to Seth MacFarlane’s Ted as an event series, the wise-cracking, weed-smoking bear, and undeniably lovable bastard son of Snuggle is bringing more comedy to the streaming network. Peacock is bumping Ted up to an ongoing show with MacFarlane reprising his role as the aforementioned stuffed bear that comes to life.
The renewal packs the bong after the Ted prequel series premiered on Peackock four months ago. The show launched to banger ratings in January, remaining at the top of the U.S. charts for two months after its debut. Peacock says it’s the platform’s most-watched series in the United States, and its popularity extends to other territories like the U.K., Australia, and Canada.

Peacock may be struggling on the revenue front, but that's not keeping it from bringing back one of its most successful shows for a second season.
At the beginning of 2024, Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" TV series (watch the trailer) became Peacock's most watched original series ever. On top of that, the streaming adaptation of the big screen comedy from the "Family Guy" creator actually took the #1 spot on the Original Streaming Comedy charts in the United States for over two months. But "Ted" was a massive hit outside of the U.S. too, making waves in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. That's more than enough for a second season of "Ted."
If you missed "Ted," here's the synopsis for the first season:
In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it's 1993, and Ted the bear's (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He's now living back home in Framingham,...

Starring Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, and Robyn Cara as Gilbert Power, Dove, and Emmy, respectively, the show keeps audiences on the edge of their seats while also tickling their funny bones. Since the series revolves around a true-crime podcast, people might wonder if Bodkin is based on a true story. Let’s find out!
What is the True Story Behind Netflix’s Bodkin?
Bodkin is not based on a true story. Though the series is centered on true-crime podcasters, its events and plot are entirely fictional. The show is a satire on how some podcasters get way too dramatic while discussing a true crime and blur the lines between facts and fiction.

Undaunted by the disappointing showing for Universal’s “The Fall Guy” this past weekend, Disney and 20th Century are releasing “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” the next installment of the popular franchise that began way back in 1968 with the sci-fi classic starring Charlton Heston, into over 3,900 theaters this Friday. The first Planet of the Apes movie under the Disney regime after absorbing Fox hits theaters this weekend with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes poised to do $50M+ domestic, and $130M WW.
After the dull opening of Universal’s Fall Guy, Jesus, God, Saint Mary and Joseph, let’s hope those projections stay steady. Apes plans to pull in the under 35 guy demo in a way that Fall Guy did not. Presales stateside of around $3.1M, in line with what was the 3-day of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning ($54.6M), indicate a $50M-plus debut. That start in U.S./Canada isn’t far from the $56.2M opening of Matt Reeves’ 2017 movie, War of the Planet of the Apes, and that would be considered solid. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ has the advantage that it’s opening at a time with less competition than War of the Planet of the Apes.

It’s been decades since Martin Scorsese was proclaimed one of the best directors of all time — and to this day he doesn’t lose the ground having proved his status with last year’s masterpiece Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone.
However, artistic genius often goes hand in hand with stubborn and intractable nature — and Scorsese’s ex colleagues from Warner Bros. had a big chance to see this with their own eyes.
Back in 2006, Scorsese released his epic crime thriller The Departed — the film eventually got to be commercially and critically acclaimed classic of the genre, earning almost $300 million in the box office with the initial budget of $90 million and taking home four Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing.
To many people’s surprise, the almost 20-year-old film to this day remains Scorsese’s one and only directorial win.

Mark Wahlberg is often seen without tattoos nowadays, but this wasn’t always the case. The actor’s body used to be marked everywhere with tattoos in his younger years. Wahlberg regretted inking his body as he’d gotten older, and he tried to make sure his kids wouldn’t repeat his mistake.

Wahlberg found out the hard way that removing tattoos is much more painful than getting them. The actor had been inking his body since he was 11-years-old. So when he decided to get rid of them, he had a lot of tattoos to deal with.
“I had, like, eight or nine. They went all the way around my neck, my stomach, my arms, my back, my leg,” Wahlberg once said on The Late, Late Show with James Corden.

Although generally known to play no-nonsense, tough characters with a Boston-accented sarcastic sense of humor, Wahlberg has also developed a flair for portraying historical figures in biographical dramas over the years.

It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Netflix is pivoting to lower-budget filmmaking projects, moving away from the high-octane big-budget action flicks, the New York Times reports. That would be a piece of great news for filmmakers as it opens up more opportunities to screen your next project on the Netflix platform.
Netflix and independent filmmaker Enough with the mega-budget projects
The story begins with Mark Wahlberg. According to Bi in 2020, Netflix paid Wahlberg a whopping $30 million to star in “Spenser Confidential,” which clocks in at 24 on the highest-paid film roles of all time. Critics panned the action thriller, an adaptation of Robert P. Barker’s 2013 novel “Wonderland.” It scored a dismal 36% on Rotten Tomatoes despite the hefty investment. That caused some turbulence in the screening giant, in which Netflix’s previous film chief, Scott Stuber, left the company in January following clashes with bosses over what kinds of films to produce. Before Stuber’s exit, Netflix...

Halle Berry became a big name after a string of supporting roles in the 90s with the superhero film X-Men in 2000. Berry played the iconic X-Men character Storm and it is arguably her most popular role. However, she would also be remembered for playing one of the most iconic Bond girls in 2002’s Die Another Day.
Halle Berry played Storm in multiple X-Men films
Berry starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film, and her role as Jinx was different from others in the past as she helped move the plot instead of being reduced to a damsel in distress. However, Berry faced an embarrassing moment during an intimate scene with Brosnan in the film.

At the turn of the millennium, humanity was brought face-to-face with the world of the apes, beginning with the Planet of the Apes. The Mark Wahlberg starrer created waves back in 2001, laying down the foundation for a franchise that would never turn back. Even more than two decades down the lane, fans still continue to love the story. And a big testament to this is the hype around the upcoming entry in the series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. There will be one notable absence though – the absence of Andy Serkis.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes immortalized Andy Serkis’s Caesar Andy Serkis nailed it as Caesar
The year is 2011. Rise of the Planet of the Apes has just hit the theatres. Another entrant in a story that already had a host of buyers, the flick would go on to amass over $480 million at the Box Office.
