Mark Wahlberg has led one too many daunting projects that are spread across multiple genres, with video game-based action pieces being among them as well.
Like his 2008 action/crime from Irish director John Moore, Max Payne, for one to count, which may have received lukewarm reviews but was quite a successful piece when it comes to its box office scores, especially in the US.

Needless to say, Wahlberg performed epically in the movie; to the point where, perhaps, no one could play the character in live-action better. That said, even Moore thought through this very perspective before making the movie.
If anything, the filmmaker just may have even canceled his $80 million movie, perhaps, had the actor not signed on to star in it.

For his directorial debut, Michael Sarnoski gave us something unexpectedly emotional: a tale of Nicolas Cage desperately tracking down his lost prized pig. But for his Pig follow-up, Sarnoski is taking a real leap – stepping up in scale and scope, and wrangling a bigger budget, in A Quiet Place: Day One. Following up John Krasinski’s films about an attack from audibly-enhanced aliens, Sarnoski’s prequel will take us back to ‘Day One’ of the invasion – first depicted in small-town form in A Quiet Place: Part II, and now transposed to one of the biggest, loudest places on Earth: New York City.
While the stage is set for an all-out cacophonous monster attack movie, Krasinski hand-picked Sarnoski for the job because of Pig’s subtleties. “When [Krasinski] first brought me onto the project, his directive was, ‘Can you bring some of that Pig touch to the A Quiet Place universe?’,” Sarnoski tells Empire.

Written by Michael Nilon and directed by Benjamin Brewer, this terrifying post-apocalyptic horror thriller premiered at South by Southwest this past March. It stars Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins and Sadie Soverall.
In a near future where earth has been decimated by an undisclosed catastrophe, Paul (Cage) barely escapes alive from the city alongside his infant twin boys. Years later, Paul and his teenage sons Joseph (Martell) and Thomas (Jenkins) are living in a remote farmhouse miles away from their nearest neighbours at Rose Farm. During the day, the boys and their father work the land and gather provisions, but at night the threesome are under siege from killer creatures that roam the land.
The trio’s quotidian life of humdrum chores and trying to survive each night at a time, is thrown into chaos when Thomas, the more rebellious of the two brothers, fails to return before nightfall one evening.

The Star Wars prequels cast Hayden Christensen as the tragic character Darth Vader. His performance made a huge fan out of Nicolas Cage, who Christensen would end up working with in another film.

Cage and Christensen worked together for the first time in the 2014 film Outcast. But Cage was already familiar with Christensen’s work years before their collaboration. In a resurfaced interview with IGN (via Contact Music), Cage confided that he’d been keeping an eye on Christensen since his Star Wars days. The prequels were typically criticized back in the day for some of the acting. But the movie star was more than impressed by what Christensen brought to the table.

While the Marvel side of things struggles to hold on to a strong footing, Disney can go back to developing other franchises in the superhero genre. One of the films that the studio can revive as a major franchise would be the 2005 film, Sky High. It was directed by Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell and starred Michael Angarano and The Flash star Danielle Panabaker in the lead roles.

Mitchell revealed that Disney had plans to develop a sequel film and a spin-off series in the Sky High universe earlier. He even fleshed out concepts for a sequel and shared that he was still interested in working on the project.

A Quiet Place: Day One has unveiled its latest poster, and fans hail it as a clever depiction of the movie’s plot. The poster features a burning New York City, probably due to the alien invasion, with alien pods falling from the sky. However, at a closer look, the poster depicts a sound waveform that goes silent, accurately capturing what happened in ‘A Quiet Place’ universe on Day 1 after the alien invasion.

Exclusive: After wrapping production on his suspenseful romance Fate, starring Faye Dunaway, Harvey Keitel and Andrew McCarthy — a film currently in search of domestic distribution — director Jonathan Baker is gearing up for production in 2025 on Icon, which will be his final film.
Blending American immigration history with rock and roll, the film is about a soul that moves through a hundred years until it reaches its destiny as a rock star, using one family’s saga through immigration and musical history as its backdrop. Baker wrote the script with his Fate collaborator Michael Buhlman, with production to kick off in 2025. He’s also expected to produce for his Baker Entertainment Group.
“I’ve waited my entire life to share this story,” Baker told Deadline. “This narrative of Icon is crucial to America, highlighting the significance of immigration and how it shaped our nation. Our past is integral to our identity.

'National Treasure' director Jon Turteltaub has given a promising update about a third movie. The 60-year-old filmmaker directed both previous pictures in the action-adventure franchise and has now revealed that a script is being penned by a "good writer" in the hope of a third film being made.Jon told the National Treasure Hunt podcast: "It's being written. That doesn't mean it will be finished and be great, but if it's being written it will definitely be momentous when we read it. We all know what's in it."But there's a very, very good writer writing it right now who tends to write really good movies. If the script comes out close to good and you can see the finish line from where you are, we're making the movie."Turteltaub expects Nicolas Cage to return as historian Benjamin Franklin Gates along with other cast members for the third...

Nicolas Cage fans must have been overjoyed by the recent update of his hit Disney movie franchise National Treasure. After 17 years of the release of the second installment in the franchise, a potential National Treasure 3 is reportedly in the works which will bring back Cage as Benjamin Franklin.

National Treasure 3 will make the franchise a trilogy and the success of the upcoming movie will determine if more installments can be added. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the National Treasure franchise was a commercial success although the response from critics was not celebratory. Still, the franchise deserves one more installment. Also, Cage’s return would create the astonishing buzz as Hugh Jackman did following his return as Wolverine.

Nicolas Cage deserves at least one more installment to his action adventure National Treasure franchise. However, even after 17 years of the release of the second installment, the updates on the movie franchise have been vehemently silent. While most fans want National Treasure to be a trilogy, Cage would need an addition of one more movie to complement that.

National Treasure has been quite a success, but Disney somewhat moved away from the movie series. While the studio put the Cage’s franchise into a coma, a new Dinesy show, National Treasure: Edge of History, was at work but not featuring Cage. After one season, the show was canceled. Now, fans finally have a positive update on the original franchise.

"The world is coming to an end, and how does one best manage the emotional rollercoaster?" Paramount has debuted a first look featurette for the sci-fi prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, arriving in theaters very soon at the end of June this summer. This making of promo features the cast explaining this story being set in New York City at the start of the alien invasion when the creatures first arrive. Lupita Nyong'o stars as a woman named Sam in NYC caught up in all of the apocalyptic mayhem. As every street goes quiet, she is thrown together with a man named Eric. With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together. And she has a cat. The cast also includes Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and Denis O'Hare. To top it off, this is directed by the same filmmaker who last made Nicolas Cage's Pig movie.

"The Rock" contains some of the best action scenes of director Michael Bay's entire action-laden career, and for my money, it's also one of the filmmaker's best overall movies. Ed Harris' villain is an all-timer, Bay hadn't yet fully given in to all of his compulsions as a visualist, and he's working from a terrific, tightly paced script with an excellent premise and a great ticking clock element. Plus, the film helped cement Nicolas Cage as an unlikely action star, and featured a perfectly gruff performance from the legendary Sean Connery.
By 1996, Connery knew how to wield that legendary status extremely effectively. He was fully aware that a generation of Hollywood executives had grown up watching him play James Bond, who was arguably the coolest character in movies. So when Bay needed help on "The Rock" set fending off a studio executive who was supposed to deliver some bad news about the movie's financing,...

Bret Easton Ellis’ series at HBO is inching closer to reality. HBO has tapped Kristoffer Borgli to direct the series adaptation of the Ellis book “The Shards.”
Borgli, who directed last year’s “Dream Scenario” starring Nicolas Cage and 2022’s “Sick of Myself,” is attached to direct and serve as an executive producer on the series that’s currently in development at HBO.
Ellis published “The Shards” just last year, and the series per its official logline is “set in the early ’80s and tracks a group of privileged Los Angeles High School friends as a serial killer strikes across the city.”
But what makes “The Shards” ripe for an adaptation is that it’s a pulpy and sexy yet sprawling and unwieldy piece of fiction featuring much of Ellis’ own biography. While it follows the murders of a serial killer known as The Trawler with great detail, it also...

Even the best filmmakers in history take big, ambitious swings and completely miss the mark at times. In the case of Brian De Palma – the supremely talented New Hollywood director behind such all-time great classics as Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, Scarface, The Untouchables, Carlito’s Way, and more – many consider his most glaring cinematic blemish to be tone deaf adaptation of The Bonfire of the Vanities in 1990. However, if general moviegoers and De Palma fans knew about the crushing production woes relating to the ending of his uneven 1998 crime thriller Snake Eyes, perhaps they’d reassess their opinion.
Indeed, the original ending of Snake Eyes is so drastically different than what transpires at the end of the theatrical cut that it’s nearly impossible to judge the movie’s intentional merits versus the final product. Of course, the grand irony about the brutally botched ending of Snake Eyes is...

The String Diaries was published a decade ago and is a supernatural thriller following a family that come into possession of diaries handed down from mother to daughter since the 19th century. Lloyd Jones’ debut extends from the present day to Oxford in the 1970s to Hungary at the turn of the 19th century, tracing back to a man from an ancient royal family with a consuming passion.

Val Kilmer has many iconic projects to his name. Whether it was 1986’s Top Gun, 1991’s The Doors, or 1993’s True Romance, the actor somehow shone bright in every role he played on the screen. He even starred as the Batman himself in Tim Burton’s Batman Forever (1995). Clearly, Val Kilmer’s filmography is filled to the brim with some of the most unforgettable titles of all time.
Batman Forever (1995) | Tim Burton Productions
Despite all this, Val Kilmer has one regret in his exceptional career – not building himself a particular identity in the film industry, as many actors have done. Giving an example of actors like Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks, Val Kilmer deep dived into this major regret.

Sometimes horror filmmakers go far from merely scaring the audience by shocking images and loud sounds and turn their films into pure art. These visuals are often beyond the imaginable limits as they both please the eye and creep you out even more.
Here are 7 horrors, picked by Reddit due to their outstanding visual part.
1. The Cell (2000)
Indeed, this sci-fi horror “was a visual feast”, as voiced by Redditor @Matthew-_-Black. The story of a comatose serial killer put in an experimental virtual reality treatment in order to locate his last victim is here enhanced by sleek futuristic design elements.
2. Mandy (2018)
Nicolas Cage’s flick about an enraged man on his journey towards bloody revenge is full of spectacular depictions of a nightmarish cult life and their supernatural and psychedelic experience. It’s highly praised for its unique red-colored visual style.
3. Suspiria (1977)
“It's so vivid and colorful,” admits @BrokeFartFountain about Dario Argento's cultish film.

Saturday Am: This weekend at the Memorial Day box office, the film industry seems to be questioning its existence, ready to jump out of a window. How can a genius, George Miller-directed tentpole prequel to the multi-Oscar winning Mad Max: Fury Road with great reviews and 4 1/2 stars PostTrak exits not be working?
The entire theatrical business is destined for streaming, oh, no! People will forever stay on their couches!
As Cher said to Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck as she smacked him in the face: “Snap out of it!” It’s not really right to make Furiosa, or Garfield, for that matter, the proxies of the Memorial Day box office.
Furiosa is still on track for $31M-$33M. For clarity purposes: The last time a film grossed in this vicinity was the 1980s with Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, we stand corrected: It’s the lowest No.

David Guglielmo doesn’t have an acting background, but he has an empathy and understanding for actors that serves him – and others – as a casting director. It might come from his background as a writer/director, which he notes is a form of performance in many ways. “When you’re writing, you’re every character. You’re feeling those emotions and traveling with them,” he notes. “And when you direct, you have to speak the langue of actors, to understand where they’re coming from and what they need.” He adds that nothing compares to a great performance. “Even if you watch a movie that’s a little rough around the edges, if the acting is there, it’s going to pull you in. And it can be one of the most powerful experiences you can have in art.”

Few periods on the calendar mean more to cinephiles than the two weekends in May occupied by the Cannes Film Festival. Since its founding in 1946, the French festival has been a launchpad for some of the most artistically significant films of all time. The Palme d’Or is one of the most coveted film awards on the planet, and the festival’s ability to balance subversive arthouse work with major Hollywood premieres has led many to view it as the world’s most significant celebration of cinema.
The 2024 lineup featured a mix of buzzy premieres from New Hollywood titans like Francis Ford Coppola and Paul Schrader alongside exciting new works from emerging directors. Between the Main Competition, Un Certain Regard, special screenings, and sidebars like the Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week, the onslaught of new films can be overwhelming for anyone who isn’t able to give the festival their 24/7 attention.

When the universe offers a sign — and the sign comes straight from the lips of Nicolas Cage — you can’t ignore it.
That, in essence, is how 31-year-old guitarist Ben Katzman found himself on Survivor. The paperwork sat on his desk, but Katzman was racked with doubt. He’d already lost everything once: his band, his record label, his DIY community. Going on reality television seemed like a potential career suicide. Which is where Cage comes in.

In The Surfer, an exploitation film set to pressure-cook, a mild-mannered man is pitted against a group who even Andrew Tate might find a touch extreme. It’s set in South Australia on fictional Luna Bay, the kind of place where if the heat doesn’t get you, something else probably will. The water shines turquoise-blue but the beaches look like scorched earth. Into this furnace arrives an unnamed man (Nicolas Cage) hoping for nothing more than to view a cliffside property and catch a wave, but the locals have other ideas: “Don’t live here, don’t surf here,” one says, offering about as much hospitality as a switchblade.
The director of this entertaining potboiler is Lorcan Finnegan, an Irish filmmaker who seems acutely aware of the hand he’s holding here: one of the very best things about The Surfer is how alive it is to Cage’s image,...

Network executives once came to the upfronts on a mission to get advertisers excited about a handful of new series coming in the fall. This year, TV’s big players took a T-shirt cannon approach.
Every one of the major presentations during the May 13-15 sprint in midtown Manhattan — NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix — emphasized the breadth of the company’s content offerings. Call it the everything-everywhere-all-at-once strategy for the streaming age.
As always, common themes emerged across the week. “Connections” was the buzziest of buzzwords used by executives pitching their hearts out from the stage. Without question, the song of Upfronts ’24, the one heard at most if not all events, was Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em.”
After sorting through the firehose of shows and spin, here are a few trends that stood out this year.
1) Star-Power Surge
Last year, the writers strike kept boldface names from appearing at the upfronts.

Marvel is looking to a new Vision for its next TV offering.
The Vision character played by Paul Bettany will be at the center of the studio’s first new series order in some time. The untitled show is currently on track for a 2026 premiere on Disney+, with Star Trek: Picard’s Terry Matalas installed as showrunner. A writers room for the series opened this week.
Bettany will reprise his role as Vision, which spans three Marvel films and the WandaVision series (plus voice work on the three Iron Man movies as Jarvis, Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence creation). At the end of WandaVision, Vision’s physical body was brought back to life (with an all-white appearance), with no memories of his previous incarnation; his memories are restored by the spectral Vision Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) had conjured to manage her grief as she put a hex on the town of Westview,...

The director of the last two Godzilla and Kong movies has opted to not return for a third, as Adam Wingard focuses on other projects.
Given that Adam Wingard has a film slate that is dauntingly long, it was always pretty clear that something would have to give. As well as a presumed third instalment in the Godzilla and Kong joined franchise (feel free to join those two names with a Vs or an X or whatever works for you), the in-demand director has a laundry list of other projects.
There’s a sequel to John Woo’s beloved 1997 action movie, Face/Off that we know is in the works. That one seems to be gathering a little pace too, with reports emerging last month stating that both Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are willing to reprise their roles from the original film. Boasting a leading duo of Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer, The Death Of Robin Hood is selling well at the Cannes Film Festival.
Here’s a rather exciting project to emerge from this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Lyrical Media has brought a fully-financed Robin Hood project to the festival, and it’s quite the package.
As well as featuring a story that focuses around the later chapters of one of Hollywood’s most enduring characters, it sports a pretty impressive leading pair. Hugh Jackman will play the ageing outlaw as a ‘battle-worn loner’, a far cry from the charming leader of the Merry Men that most versions of the legend love to portray.
Jodie Comer is also set to appear in an unknown role.
Whether this tale plans to further deconstruct the Robin Hood mythos by avoiding the Maid Marian character remains to be seen, but with Comer onboard...

Nicolas Cage is going to star in the upcoming independent horror film titled Longlegs. While the film looks very modern, it’s actually a throwback to one Old Hollywood icon. Interestingly the director of Longlegs has a major connection to the icon in question.
Nicolas Cage’s ‘Longlegs’ was inspired by 1 of the best directors ever
Longlegs will be directed by Oz Perkins. So far, Perkins is most famous for his films I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House and Gretel & Hansel. During a 2020 interview with Polygon, Perkins discussed Longlegs, saying it was inspired by the work of cinematic legend Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock is remembered for horror films and thrillers such as Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, and North by Northwest. His movies often have good humor and a psychosexual subtext. Hitchcock might be the most acclaimed director of all time, with Stanley Kubrick being his only real rival.

The trailer for Longlegs, Nicolas Cage’s new horror movie, makes it looks like a serial killer film. Interestingly, Cage compared the film to a character from Pinocchio. However, the film was directed by the son of a horror movie legend.
Nicolas Cage said ‘Longlegs’ is about ‘a possessed Geppetto’
Anthony Perkins was a talented actor who appeared in numerous films and television shows, but he will always be most remembered for playing Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Bates was one of the first realistic serial killers to be portrayed onscreen in an American movie. Perkins would reprise the role in three sequels. His son, Oz Perkins, is now a horror director known for the offbeat films Gretel & Hansel and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. He also directed Cage’s upcoming film, Longlegs.

Mike Figgis has been shooting a behind-the-scenes documentary for the past 18 months about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. It’s called Megadoc.
Figgis told me Monday that it’s been edited but there’s allowance for the fact that the film played in competition here at the Cannes Film Festival. He recorded an interview with the cinema titan the other day.
Figgis, who was introduced into the Coppola clan back in the mid 1990s after directing Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas, told me that the documentary is “very much a fly-on-the-wall” and also features conversations with various cast members — Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman, Shia Labeouf — and Coppola’s wife Eleanor Coppola, who shot the footage and directed her own study of her husband’s work for the acclaimed Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, about the making of 1979s Apocalypse Now.

The previous teasers for The Blackcoat's Daughter director Osgood Perkins' next feature, Longlegs, have been very effective in building an aura of unsettling dread around the mysterious horror flick, but this latest trailer really takes things to another level.
Though the movie is still playing things relatively close to the chest when it comes to revealing specific plot details, this footage does give us a little more to go on, as rookie FBI agent Lee Harker (It Follows star Maika Monroe) becomes obsessed with tracking down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families - and might just have supernatural abilities.
Harker has a personal connection to the killer (did she survive an earlier attack?), which leads her down an even darker path and into the world of the Occult.
Say your prayers, check out the new trailer and poster below along with the initial social media reactions, and...

Fred Roos, the Oscar-winning The Godfather Part II producer and longtime executive producer for Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola, died Saturday in Beverly Hills at 89, four days shy of his 90th birthday.
The news about Roos, who won his Godfather Part II Oscar and later was nominated for Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, comes as Francis Ford Coppola is here at the Cannes Film Festival, 45 years after winning the Palme d’Or for Apocalypse Now. Coppola is in town with his $120 million passion project Megalopolis, which had its world premiere last week. Roos is billed as producer on Megalopolis.
The news also comes after Coppola’s wife of 61 years, Eleanor, died April 12. Roos was an executive producer on Hearts of Darkness, her famed documentary about the making of Apocalypse Now that won them both an Emmy in 1992.

After Daddy’s Home 2 and Father Stu, Mark Wahlberg is once again joining hands with Mel Gibson for Flight Risk which will hit theatres later this year. Clearly, Mel Gibson is completely focused on rebuilding his name in the industry after being in the dead center of many controversies in the late 2000s.
Father Stu (2022) | Columbia Pictures
While he has starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in the last couple of films, Flight Risk will have him sitting behind the camera lens and on the director’s chair. The upcoming film’s storyline sure seems promising; however, it looks like they have taken a page out of the script of Nicolas Cage’s iconic 1997 action thriller, Con Air.
Did Con Air Inspire Mark Wahlberg’s Next Film? Nicolas Cage in a still from Con Air (1997) | Touchstone Pictures
