- DirectorShawn LevyStarsBen StillerRobin WilliamsOwen WilsonLarry spans the globe, uniting favorite and new characters while embarking on an epic quest to save the magic before it's gone forever. And another year at the movies start! As always, I start mine with reminiscences from last year. Living in Brazil is like this, you wait most movies to screen a month later in comparison to other countries. This one started screening exactly on the very first day of 2015. Saw it just now, on January 2nd at the 8:30 pm screening.
The third and, I believe, final act from the Night at the Museum series is a nice send off to start the new year. We had the presence of the entire cast from the other two movies, a funny story, it was way, way better that the mediocre second movie. We also counted with the presence of Ben Kinsley, Ricky Gervais, Dan Stevens and a very funny cameo from Hugh Jackman and Alice Eve as themselves. Oh, the cast from the first movie were there as well, I couldn't help but say "Mary Poppins!" when I saw Dick Van Dyke again! Anyway, the story clearly gives us signs that now it's really over, I don't know, but anyway, it was a nice and funny send off from these great characters. Worth to watch.
Oh yeah... Robin Williams will be dearly missed! Rest in peace, buddy! God bless your soul for all the funny moments you gave to us along the years.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorDan GilroyStarsJake GyllenhaalRene RussoBill PaxtonWhen Louis Bloom, a con man desperate for work, muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.I just saw this amazing movie now, on January 10th at the 9:15 pm screening.
Goodness gracious, what a fantastic flick!!!! What a strong and courageous commentary on society!! Think about it!! Do you watch extreme TV?? Well, you certainly watch the morning news, right? Imagine extreme TV on the morning news, eating your milky Cheerios with your kids and all... this guy on the movie is the guy who would provide it. The commentary imposed on the script is genuinely amazing, with its strong criticism on society that feed extreme TV with the higher ratings on the weekly audience. The intertextuality with the voyeurism on TV is courageous, bold, agressive. Picture Jake Gyllenhaall as the audience, his camera as the pictures. Take this movie now as a train wreck, would you remove your eyes from it? Of course not!! You'll keep watching, because that's what we do! Which leads me to the second great commentary on the movie that is, what would you do to climb the stairs of your success? Would you harm other people? Maybe even kill them? Would you trespass anyone's proprierty? What would you do? This movie has a clever script and a breathtaking plot that will discuss these questions with you. Highly recommended and unmissable!!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorAndrey ZvyagintsevStarsAleksey SerebryakovElena LyadovaRoman MadyanovIn a Russian coastal town, Kolya is forced to fight the corrupt mayor when he is told that his house will be demolished. He recruits a lawyer friend to help, but the man's arrival brings further misfortune for Kolya and his family.I saw this movie on January 25th at the 10:30 pm screening.
What an incredible and powerful commentary on society! Don't go to this movie waiting for explosions, special effects and such! This is loosely inspired by Thomas Hobbes in his romance Leviathan, in which he defends that mankind is its worst enemy. In other words, we are directly responsible for our future. It's a powerful commentary on a corrupt society where a disfunctional family tries to convince a corrupt mayer not to disappropriate their land. With that said, goes the Bible challenge that God makes to Job in the middle of a storm: "can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or press down his tongue with a cord?" Absolutely recommended!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorMorten TyldumStarsBenedict CumberbatchKeira KnightleyMatthew GoodeDuring World War II, the English mathematical genius Alan Turing tries to crack the German Enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians while attempting to come to terms with his troubled private life.Saw this one on January 27th at the 10:30 pm screening.
This was unexpectedly incredible! Some weeks ago I barely knew Cumberbatch, started to know him after checking Sherlock on Netflix. Now, he's one of the most amazing modern actors to me and I'll start following his career enormously. This movie is equally incredible, dealing with intolerance, war games and a genius who created what we call today, computers. I have a considerable list of homossexual known people who I admire, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Rob Halford, Ian McKellen, Pedro Almodóvar, but now Alan Turing just made into that list. Worth watching this movie, being since now, one of my favorites for the 2015 Oscar.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorTim BurtonStarsAmy AdamsChristoph WaltzDanny HustonA drama about the awakening of painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.Saw this new Tim Burton offer on February 4th, at the 8:05 pm screening.
I went to this movie completely in the dark. Also, I was expecting to be disappointed with this new Burton movie, considering his most recent filmography. Turned out I was overwhelmed. Great movie in every aspect. They say that true inspiration is in the soul of the artist and it's impossible to copy or duplicate. For Margaret Keane, that goes double as true. Wonderful cinebiography, worth checking out!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorAlejandro G. IñárrituStarsMichael KeatonZach GalifianakisEdward NortonA washed-up superhero actor attempts to revive his fading career by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway production.Saw this great piece on February 8th at the 10:30 pm screening.
What a wonderful movie I just saw! Filled with metaphors, intertextuality, it screens as a play and shows a magnificent story of an actor coming to terms with his past. The idea of relevance and fame in the movie is discussed with cleverness and sophistication. Unmissable!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorPaul TibbittMike MitchellStarsTom KennyAntonio BanderasBill FagerbakkeWhen a diabolical pirate above the sea steals the secret Krabby Patty formula, SpongeBob and his friends team up in order to get it back.Saw this one on February 14th at the 8:15 pm screening.
Wow, I DID have fun!! Oh boy!! I feel like a small little brat again! I had so much fun that I'm barfing rainbows! Can't go wrong with Spongebob Squarepants, oh boy, what a funny evening! Go watch this cartoon with your kids, right now and have tons of fun!!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsChanning TatumMila KunisEddie RedmayneA young woman discovers her destiny as an heiress of intergalactic nobility and must fight to protect the inhabitants of Earth from an ancient and destructive industry.Saw this on February 18th at the 6:30 pm screening.
First of all, sorry for my quick comments now, guys, I'm having very limited time for them.
Long story short: bad sci-fi, cliche, silly and with horrible dialogs. Only positive feats are the soundtrack, the action and the visual spectacle, that's it. Not recommended.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsBradley CooperSienna MillerKyle GallnerNavy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle's pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home with his family after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds that it is the war he can't leave behind. This one I saw on February 18th too, at the 8:50 pm screening, right after the Wachowskis film, so, double feature for today.
Long story short: awesome, fantastic depiction of the human condition and another great Eastwood cronicle about the american odissey. Gotta check this one!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.Everyone mark this! I just saw The Shining, yes, Kubrick's classic today, on February 21st at the 11:10 pm screening! It started 15 minutes late, but OK.
I thought I would never have the opportunity to check a classic movie like this on a big screen! Turns out that an event here in my city that exhibits classic pictures just screened the classic Kubrick flick. I already knew the movie, watched thousand times in my life and knew what to expect but the sensation to experiment it on the big screen was just gorgeous! What a classic!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorTheodore MelfiStarsBill MurrayMelissa McCarthyNaomi WattsA young boy whose parents have just divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic war veteran who lives next door.Saw this one on February 22nd at the 6:10 pm screening.
Good return from Bill Murray to the main roles, but passable comedy. Anyway, I reccomend it, being a great fan of Murray.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonMarty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown.Saw a great classic today, on March 4th at the 8:20 pm screening.
I can't even describe my excitement on watching this great classic! I can finally tell my kids and grandsons in the future that I saw this great piece of classic movie on the big screen! I'm really overjoyed!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsColin FirthTaron EgertonSamuel L. JacksonA spy organisation recruits a promising street kid into the agency's training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.Saw this one on March 17th at the 4:15 pm screening.
After some long time out of the cinema, well, at least not watching anything really new, but whatever, I'm back to the theaters! And with great style! I just saw Kingsman, one of the best spy stories I saw in recent years! Great acting, awesome plot, dynamic, funny, entertaining, like a good ol' James Bond classic! Unmissable!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorGlenn FicarraJohn RequaStarsWill SmithMargot RobbieRodrigo SantoroIn the midst of veteran con man Nicky's latest scheme, a woman from his past - now an accomplished femme fatale - shows up and throws his plans for a loop.Saw this one on March 22nd at the 6:15 pm screening.
OK, I guess, I really enjoy Will Smith, but I believe he's been through some bad projects recently. This is a little better, but still not enough, hope to see him engaged with something really worthy of his talents next time.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorTommy Lee JonesStarsTommy Lee JonesHilary SwankGrace GummerThree women who have been driven mad by pioneer life are to be transported across the country by covered wagon by the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy, who in turn employs low-life drifter George Briggs to assist her.Saw this one on April 5th at the 9:30 pm screening with my brother.
Great work by Tommy Lee Jones, I really enjoy this actor, and this second directorial work from him is really beautiful. Worth the watch!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorDan FogelmanStarsAl PacinoAnnette BeningJennifer GarnerAn aging rock star decides to change his life when he discovers a 40-year-old letter written to him by John Lennon.Saw this one on April 20th, at the 7:00pm screening.
Nice and emotional movie with Pacino inspired in real facts. Not one of Pacino's greatest, but definitely a must see.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonAfter visiting 2015, Marty McFly must repeat his visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985...without interfering with his first trip.So I saw this one on May the 3rd, at the 11:20 am screening. Yeah, I believe it's one of the fewer times I saw something at the movies in the morning... go figure!
Anyways, I'm just so grateful to have the opportunity to see a movie so beloved to me at the cinema, years after its release. I remember back in 1990, the third one was the only one I could watch with my parents on the big screen. I was 10 years old, back then. I believe it won't take too long for them to screen the third part as well, and trust me, I'll be there. Also, if there's anybody interested in my opinions, I invite everybody to access my blog: acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br and check out my content. It's in portuguese, but I did the courtesy to put a translation tool on the right bottom of the page for non-speakers, its translation is a little sloppy at times, but I hope it helps those who want to take a look at my texts. Feel free to visit me anytime. Anyway, great classic movie, as strong as it was back in 1989 and I can't wait to see part three at the cinema anytime soon.
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.Saw this one on May the 9th at the 8:15 pm screening.
Another great Marvel movie. A lot better than the first Avengers. Lots of improvements and a stellar cast returning to their roles again. Can't wait for the next one!
UPDATE: Just saw the movie again today, May the 10th, at the 9:20 pm screening with my brother, not because I was planning to, but because my brother wanted to see it with me. Anyway, I had great fun again, really a fun ride. Excelsior!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorGeorge MillerStarsTom HardyCharlize TheronNicholas HoultIn a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.I just saw this incredible comeback on May 17th at the 7:10 pm screening.
First things first: Mel who? Just joking! But man, wow! What an incredible comeback from George Miller in his Mad Max franchise! Asolutely amazing! Don't lose this fantastic movie on the cinema! It's just epic!

Nice movie, fun, optimist, I really enjoyed this last one, the optimist look, I think we need that more in science fiction today. Great watch!
(http://acienciadaopiniao.blogspot.com.br) - DirectorDanny BoyleTim Van SomerenStarsJonny Lee MillerBenedict CumberbatchAndreea PaduraruChildlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the Creature determines to track down his creator.Just saw this magnificent play today, on June 7th at the 3:30 pm screening.
My God! Just... just... mesmerizing! Mesmerizing! Absolutely grand, magnificent! I'm still thinking about it! The movie here in my town had two exhibition days, one for Cumberbatch as the Creature and another for Miller as the Creature. Unfortunately, I just could attend to the second one, but sure as heck, I'm going to look over Cumberbatch's take on the creature as well futurely! I'm still in awe from what I saw! Absolutely unique! I'm sure that Mary Shelley would be astounded with this performance as well!

Nice. Good movie, nothing special or as good as the Cameron classics, in fact, it's still far from those Cameron movies in terms of quality, but at least it manages to be better than the other previous movies without Cameron.
