- DirectorDavid YatesStarsEddie RedmayneKatherine WaterstonDan FoglerGellert Grindelwald plans to raise an army of wizards to rule over non-magical beings. In response, Newt Scamander's former professor, Albus Dumbledore, seeks his help to stop him.Not nearly as good as the first but still great! Queenie's arc I didn't like, but the other characters were well fantastic. Let's and Theseus were good additions (and Nagini) I'm not sure how I feel about Grindelwald's revelation/lie at the end.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloThe Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.Disappointing but still best movie of the year. Too much action not enough character interactions. Though what interactions there were, were awesome! Some funny lines too. Had the potential to be great but failed. (And it had nothing to do with the ending.) I'm talking plot. Thor's entire storyline to get a new hammer was boring. It just needed a bit more story.
- DirectorRyan CooglerStarsChadwick BosemanMichael B. JordanLupita Nyong'oT'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past.I heard such great things about this movie, but like all Marvel's movies lately, I was disappointed. (It's better than Thor Ragnarok and Doctor Strange though.)
Fantastic effects and solid acting, but the storyline was lacking.
The flashback at the beginning was confusing. They really needed to be clearer who those people were.
Awesome culture and I love the warrior women!
The best character is his little sister! The technology was also cool. (Sis is in charge of tech.) - DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsTye SheridanOlivia CookeBen MendelsohnWhen the creator of a virtual reality called the OASIS dies, he makes a posthumous challenge to all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune and control of his world.Surprisingly good. I don't remember the book super well but I think the movie was even better!
- DirectorJ.A. BayonaStarsChris PrattBryce Dallas HowardRafe SpallWhen the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Not as good as the first movie but not as bad as I was afraid. From the previews it looked like dinos in a city, but it was a private island. The beginning was really great but the end was just really good. (If that makes sense.)
- DirectorJames WanStarsJason MomoaAmber HeardWillem DafoeArthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land. Not as good as I'd hoped/expected but not bad. Good characters and the touch of humor was nice. A few too many battles but a decent story.
- DirectorChristian RiversStarsHera HilmarRobert SheehanHugo WeavingIn a post-apocalyptic world where cities ride on wheels and consume each other to survive, two people meet in London and try to stop a conspiracy.Good movie but lacking in likeable main characters. Anna rocked! If only our mains had half her personality!
- DirectorAneesh ChagantyStarsJohn ChoDebra MessingJoseph LeeAfter his teenage daughter goes missing, a desperate father tries to find clues on her laptop.Really good! I was hesitant based on the way it's told, through a computer screen, but I hardly noticed and it certainly didn't detract from the movie. Terrific mystery, good characters, best mystery movie I've seen in a long time!
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonHolly HunterSarah VowellThe Incredibles family takes on a new mission which involves a change in family roles: Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) must manage the house while his wife Helen (Elastigirl) goes out to save the world. As good as the first.
- DirectorSteven S. DeKnightStarsJohn BoyegaScott EastwoodCailee SpaenyJake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat.Better than the first. They added characters!
- DirectorJon TurteltaubStarsJason StathamBingbing LiRainn WilsonA group of scientists exploring the Marianas Trench encounter the largest marine predator that has ever existed - the Megalodon.Didn't spend much time on characters but I liked them. Cute humor thrown in and non boring action. Pretty good.
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddEvangeline LillyMichael PeñaAs Scott Lang balances being both a superhero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.A good action scene with the Wasp but the beginning was largely boring. I love personal stuff in super hero movies but it was just dull here. The humor wasn't funny. Too stupid.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsAlden EhrenreichWoody HarrelsonEmilia ClarkeDuring an adventure in the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebel Alliance.Much better than I expected! Cute comedy and I loved the interactions between Han and Chewie. Yes, it was a little long and had a bit too much action but it was enjoyable. A good twist for a prequel too.
- DirectorAntoine FuquaStarsDenzel WashingtonPedro PascalAshton SandersRobert McCall serves an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed, but how far will he go when that is someone he loves?Good, not as good as the first, but still good. Violence got a bit much at times.
- DirectorBob PersichettiPeter RamseyRodney RothmanStarsShameik MooreJake JohnsonHailee SteinfeldTeen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities.Surprisingly good.
- DirectorJennifer Yuh NelsonStarsAmandla StenbergMandy MooreBradley WhitfordAfter a disease kills 98% of children, the survivors develop powers and are declared a threat. 16-year-old Ruby, escapes the government facility and joins a group of rebel teenagers ready to fight the government forces out to get them. Before reading the book I liked it. I wish it ended less to be continued.
- DirectorOtto BathurstStarsTaron EgertonJamie FoxxBen MendelsohnA war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown.Throw away all logic and it's enjoyable. Crossbow machine guns. Jamie Fox was terrific! I wish Robin wasn't so reactionary. He only acts when prompted by others. John starts him being "the hood", Marion gets him to give to the poor, ect.
- DirectorRawson Marshall ThurberStarsDwayne JohnsonNeve CampbellChin HanA security expert must infiltrate a burning skyscraper, 225 stories above ground, when his family is trapped inside by criminals.Brainless but entertaining. I liked all the duct tape. Haha
- DirectorRuben FleischerStarsTom HardyMichelle WilliamsRiz AhmedA failed reporter is bonded to an alien entity, one of many symbiotes who have invaded Earth. But the being takes a liking to Earth and decides to protect it.The beginning was a bit slow but once the symbiote showed up it got a lot better. Not for the reason expected, the effects or action, but because the symbiote was hilarious!
- DirectorTravis KnightStarsHailee SteinfeldJorge Lendeborg Jr.John CenaOn the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. On the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, Charlie Watson discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.Cute movie. Better than I expected. A transformers movie with characters and not all action!
- DirectorShane BlackStarsBoyd HolbrookTrevante RhodesJacob TremblayWhen a young boy accidentally triggers the universe's most lethal hunters' return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled scientist can prevent the end of the human race.Good characters. I appreciated the attempt at levity. They could've done without the kid. Beginning was a bit slow.
- DirectorJaume Collet-SerraStarsLiam NeesonVera FarmigaPatrick WilsonAn insurance salesman/ex-cop is caught up in a life-threatening conspiracy during his daily commute home. Not at all what I thought it was going to be like. Liam's character gets on a train and meets a lady who offers him a bag of money to put a bug on someone's bag. He just lost his job so he takes the money. (And he doesn't know exactly what he's supposed to do at that point.) For the rest of the movie he's trying to find the person on the train while this lady keeps messing with him. You took the money now you have to do it. And they're going to force him by whatever means necessary.
It's supposed to be suspenseful and actiony but I had trouble liking the guy. The whole thing seemed a little convoluted. Why him, what are their motives? Do I care? Not too much. - DirectorBrad PeytonStarsDwayne JohnsonNaomie HarrisMalin AkermanWhen three different animals become infected with a dangerous pathogen, a primatologist and a geneticist team up to stop them from destroying Chicago.Decent movie. I'd buy it on sale. The ending could've gone either way, between rewatchable or not. I'm glad it went well.
- DirectorShinsuke SatoStarsSôta FukushiHana SugisakiRyô YoshizawaA Japanese teenager with the ability to see ghosts gains a soul reaper's powers and begins his duties as a substitute soul reaper.Netflix
Cheesy but good. Bad effects. - DirectorYarrow CheneyScott MosierStarsBenedict CumberbatchCameron SeelyRashida JonesA grumpy Grinch plots to ruin Christmas for the village of Whoville.Netflix
Good remake. Enough new to be interesting. Made Grinch sympathetic.
