Belmonte finds his fiancée Constanze and her English maid Blondchen ('Blondie'), who were captured and sold by pirates, in the Meditarranean seraglio of the Ottoman pasha (military lord) Selim. Belmonte's servant Pedrillo gets him engaged as builder. After Selim tried to enforce himself upon Konstanze, Pedrillo and Blondchen, his own sweetheart, prepare their flight, managing to get Osmin, the pashas overseer, drunk. Yet Osmin and Selim's guard still capture them, already in the garden; however the touching display of true love melts the pashas heart, so he lets them go.

- A dramatic, energetic adaptation of Heinz Spoerli's ballet based on Grieg's Peer Gynt by the Zurich ballet. Marijn Rademaker is excellent as the title character, clearly telegraphing the emotional range required. Each of the characters and the dramatic scenes are supported by the orchestral passages and songs provided by Grieg; some spoken word passages extracted from the Ibsen play.
- When Huldrych Zwingli starts out as a priest in Zurich in 1519, the Plague affects him. As he looks death in the face, God's Word carries him through and he survives. Encouraged, he turns Zurich upside-down with the Bible in his hand.
- Rossini's popular work - which was first performed in 1816 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome - contains some of opera's most tuneful and recognizable music - from its lively overture to Figaro's Largo al factotum to Rosina's Una voce poco fa. Based on the play of the same title by the French dramatist Beaumarchais (1732-1799), the opera is a delightful rigmarole of riotous situations in a race to win the hand of the young Rosina. Vesselina Kasarovas Rosina made this production of 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' a memorable event. She captivated the audience with fluent coloraturas, an infinite variety of tone colors and nuances of expression, as well as her phenomenal versatility as an actress.
- Visionary choreographer Christian Spuck distances himself from the Dumas/Petipas ballet version of "The Nutcracker", emphasizing the fantastical nature of the original novella written by E.T.A. Hoffmann.
