- On November 9, 1997, the news media reported on a political coup in Älvdalen. The coup, which took place in front of the film camera and which had a legal aftermath in the County Court, concerned a controversial planning matter that was hammered out during a coffee break, when most of the members were absent. At the beginning of 1997, parts of the traffic route plan for Älvdalen's church village had gained legal force, which meant that the national road that runs through the village was to be widened and equipped with three roundabouts. This in turn meant that the cinema from the beginning of the 20th century, as well as about twenty other houses, would be demolished. The reason for the extensive asphalting of Älvdalen was said to be traffic safety, but financial interests also appeared. But as people began to realize what the plan really meant, opposition grew. Action groups were formed, the contradictions within the political groups hardened and frustration increased.
