- Newspaper reporter Paul Marino and his undercover agent Jack Flood infiltrate the mob and report on a different type of crime every week. The results of their investigation are given to the police and appear as a featured article in the newspaper.

When the police investigate they find that the the girls on the agency's books are not only models and party girls for hire but are also used as agents in industrial espionage. Paul Marino sets out to expose the corruption in the industry.
- The public who attend boxing matches expect to see an honest game but corruption exists at all levels from the match fixer all the way up to the state Boxing Commissioner. Marino and Flood suspect that being the state Commissioner is a licence to steal. A boxer dies in a fixed mismatched fight and following an inquest into his death Marino sets out to root out the game's corruptors.
- A businessman who has been funded by the mob runs for Governor with there backing. When he tries to distance himself from them, they take action against him.
- In a fictional parallel to Lucky Luciano, once-powerful gangland figure Dimitris Hagias has been deported to the country of his birth by U.S. authorities, though the country here is Greece, not Italy. Though still running an international crime network, he craves a return to America so much he's trying to buy off congressmen so they'll pass a law allowing him to come back. Marino and Flood investigate with tacit help from local police and piece Hagias' story together with informants, including his mistress.
- Each year billions of tax dollars are spent on school education and in most cases it is very well spent, but there are exceptions. In one of the major eastern cities that money was not reaching the education authorities resulting in poor conditions, overcrowded classrooms, underpaid instructors, a shortage of qualified teachers and juvenile delinquency. Paul Marino wants to know where the money going and who is the local bigwig responsible for misappropriation of funds meant for school projects. Jack Flood goes undercover as a school construction inspector to help Marino expose the corruption in the education system.

Does Crown have the state legislators wrapped around his little finger?
- A young couple go for a walk in the park one night and the boyfriend is subsequently murdered by a gang of feral youths. His heartbroken parents want answers and call in Paul Marino. During the trial the District Attorney is determined to get guilty verdicts and the harshest punishments possible despite defence arguments that the ages of the young defendants should be taken into consideration.

- Jerry Skala, president of an amalgamation of union workers in Chicago, is under investigation by a Senate heating committee on charges of bribery, corruption and fraud, and where one local union boss was murdered and rumoured to have been replaced by one of Skala's henchmen. Paul Marino confronts Skala and wants him to answer for the murder.
- The investigation into corruption within Chicago's unions continues as Vaclavic goes on public record to admit that there is dirt and corruption at the highest level in Skala's union amalgamation. He decides to remove his union from Skala's control and join a labour organisation worthy of his decent and honest men, but somehow Skala obtains a court injunction to prevent the change then uses lies and dirty tricks to discredit Vaclavic. Paul Marino decides to use the power of the press to discredit Skala.
- A new state highway is being built but the construction company is forced to build it on the cheap and below specification. An investigation is underway to expose those responsible for the misuse of state funds, bribery and fraud.

She is his only weakness. and investigator Paul Marino takes advantage of this to try and bring Amber down.
