James Patterson‘s most popular fictional figure is getting another screen adaptation in Cross, and from the looks of the first trailer, this Amazon Prime Video original is going to be a doozy. The streamer also renewed the series for a second season. Cross stars Aldis Hodge as the titular detective — a character previously portrayed by Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider and Tyler Perry in 2012’s Alex Cross and featured in dozens of other non-adapted novels. Here’s everything you need to know about the show. Who stars in Cross? The first season cast includes, in addition to Hodge, New Amsterdam‘s Ryan Eggold and Shadowhunters‘ Isaiah Mustafa. Johnny Ray Gill, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, Jennifer Wigmore, and Eloise Mumford also feature. Ben Watkins is showrunner and executive producer. Season 2 will see the addition of actors Matthew Lillard,...

Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

Own: Oprah Winfrey Network has set a Wednesday, August 14 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt premiere date for its anticipated new drama series “David Makes Man,” from Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (“Moonlight”) and Warner Horizon Scripted Television.

Inspired by the writer’s impoverished youth in Florida, the milieu naturally calls to mind “Moonlight,” and even borrows some of the film’s stylistic touchstones, bathing images in evocative colors, accompanied by a melancholic score that sets the lyrical tone.

Vampires! Bloody vampires! Are they still cool? As I’ve mentioned in many a review for this site, we just can’t seem to get enough of them. Every other film, book or TV series seems to be about vampires these days. I had thought this fad would have passed by now. Isn’t time some other monster got some screen time? How about a tween romance featuring fishmen? Or a sexy TV series starring a group of mummies? I guess the reason why vampires remain so popular is obvious really. As I once wrote in an essay, wonderfully entitled, ‘Pair a literary work and a film and analyse how each represents ‘gender’ and ‘sexuality’; Compare and contrast how each accomplishes this task in the specific medium,...

We just got word that the new film from Ice Cube and Mike Epps, one of the most anticipated comedy films of the year titled Janky Promoters, was finally released- and it slipped right past us Because the studio released it with a very limited theater run. The studio, Third Rail Releasing, didn’t expect the very limited release and made very many moves to get it released theatrically so it wouldn’t go straight to the DVD shelves. As you may already know, the film had its release date moved at least three times- and that’s just the amount of times we know of.
The film also stars Young Jeezy, Lahmard Tate, Julio Oscar Mechoso, Tamala Jones, "Lil' Jj" James Lewis, Glenn Plummer, and Juanita Jennings as it follows the shenanigans of a pair of shady concert promoters (Cube and Epps), self-described "Modesto's finest," who get in over...
